All,
It is such a pleasure to be joining the Hispanic Latino Network as your executive sponsor.
First, I want to thank Gary Ellis for his commitment over the last three years. I know I am following a strong and passionate leader and I hope to be able to continue to build on his successes in advancing the Hispanic Latino Network’s goals. We will miss him.
Next, I plan to immerse myself in the Network to understand the progress you have made and the plans you have before you. Social Integration Among College Students

...your workplace. When it comes to thinking about your future having the capacity of adapting easily to new social situations and having appropriate daily behaviors will open many doors for you. It is important that each and every one of us is able to have a healthy and positive social health for the following reasons; Social health does not only create the ability to relate and network with people but also to express your feelings to others instead of just keeping it to yourself. It sustains health and wellness with positive reinforcement from family, friends, and even your neighbors. It is very important that as a community we build confidence and great self-esteem since it will give all of us the strength and guidance to be able to rely on each other and provide encouragement to live your lives in a healthy and happy manner. Problem Statement The lack of inequality with underrepresented students seems to be an issue for many years. We the underrepresented many times just let it go by, but it should not be that way. Being able to be successful in college also means good social integration. In a study done in the University of California Santa Cruz and University of Minnesota they mention in an article, “Identity and Academic Success among Underrepresented Ethnic Minorities: An Interdisciplinary Review and Integration” they mention “In particular, educators must rethink how they value different forms of families’ contributions to their children’s education, rather than holding...

...Case Study: W.L. Gore & Associates Gore’s Organization Structure The Gore Company has historically been one of the most successful and innovative in the world. Current market conditions have influenced their decision to diversify production and spread business teams over three continents. Obviously, it is impossible for any company to become widely known without accepting the rules of globalization. Gore Company has shown that their practices are quite effective and contribute to success of all their business teams working on different products. Of course some practices could be adjusted or changed to accommodate modern realities. First of all, Gore Company should be more focused on modern technologies and continuing to research and develop new products. New technologies like Oculus Rift or Google Glass will provide better possibilities for collaboration in the nearest future, thus integration of innovative technologies is a key aspect helping to retain a competitive advantage while considering the economies of their scope. In addition it is to hire only the best professionals from all over the world that understand the importance of confidentiality and fierce competition. According to the case study, it is more difficult to be accepted to Gore Company than to any elite university, which indicates a focus on a high level of Talent Acquisition. Gore should hone in on the “Intrapreneuring Associates” by allowing them the freedom and opportunity to research new technologies...

Diversity

...Organizational development and fundraising professionals, as well as board volunteers, have the opportunity to cross boundaries that divide people in other sectors. Whether we view this opportunity with apprehension or enthusiasm depends on our heritage, experiences, beliefs, and vision. Historically, nonprofit boards have offered limited opportunities to develop diverse leadership. 4 Beyond representation: Building diverse board leadership teams Maria Gitin OVER THE YEARS , dialogue on board diversification has evolved from focus on the importance of representing constituents, to “doing the right thing,” which is characterized by opponents as “political correctness,” to the current widely held view that a nondiverse board is missing key potential donors and opinion leaders. Diverse leaders can expand knowledge, create new resources, and open doors to partnerships necessary to fulfill an organization’s mission. Recommended strategies for board diversification must be understood in the context of the deeply divided society of the United States. Although North American cultural issues are the result of a unique history, most elements of diversity planning will apply in other countries as well. Organ Donation Campaign California

...Donate Life California: A Campaign Launch Case Study Helen Allrich Elizabeth Dougall David Heneghan Corresponding author: Helen Allrich hallrichster@gmail.com Suggested Citation: Allrich H, Dougall E, Heneghan D. Donate Life California: A Campaign Launch Case Study. Cases in Public Health Communication & Marketing. 2007 June. Available from: http://www. casesjournal.org/volume1/peer-reviewed/cases_1_05.cfm. Peer-Reviewed Case Study Abstract In April 2005, Donate Life California launched California’s first online organ donor registry called the “Donate Life California Registry.” This confidential database allows Californians to share their organ donation wishes by registering online. To compel Californians to become organ donors by registering online, the Donate Life team engaged hospital partners, media partners, and community partners. The campaign’s four-fold challenge was to: (1) redefine and reposition organ donation as a public health problem for Californians, (2) educate the public and the media about the lack of organ donors, (3) spread awareness using community collaboration and media advocacy strategies, and (4) adopt a single call to action compelling Californians to become organ donors by registering online. Launched with the goal of registering 15,000 people in 12 months, the registry attracted more than 175,000 registrations in the first six months. The online registry’s success was driven by a well-crafted strategic communication campaign underpinned...

...advertising and other forms of promotion. Organizations in both the private and public sectors have learned that the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with their target audiences is critical to their success. Advertising and other types of promotional messages are used to sell products and services as well as to promote causes, market political candidates, and deal with societal problems such as alcohol and drug abuse. Consumers are finding it increasingly difficult to avoid the efforts of marketers, who are constantly searching for new ways to communicate with them. Most of the people involved in advertising and promotion will tell you that there is no more dynamic and fascinating a field to either practice or study. However, they will also tell you that the field is undergoing dramatic changes that are changing advertising and promotion forever. The changes are coming from all sides—clients demanding better results from their advertising and promotional dollars; lean but highly creative smaller ad agencies; sales promotion and direct-marketing firms, as well as interactive agencies, which want a larger share of the billions of dollars companies spend each year promoting their products and services; consumers who no longer respond to traditional forms of advertising; and new technologies that may reinvent the very process of advertising. As the new millennium begins, we are experiencing perhaps the most dynamic and revolutionary changes of any...

...Evan Mandery Professor, John Jay College of Criminal Justice • Why I'm Skipping My Harvard Reunion (A Call to Action) Posted: 05/06/2014 8:51 am EDT Updated: 07/06/2014 5:12 am EDT In a few weeks, the Harvard class of 1989 will be reuniting in Cambridge. There'll be mini-TED talks, a "Taste of New England Dinner," and a chance to sing with the Boston Pops, but I'll be spending the weekend coaching my son's Little League team and hanging out with my family. Reunions seem unnatural to me. I refuse to participate in the charade of pretending to be surprised to see a classmate, and when I'm asked, "What have you been doing?" as one inevitably is, I never know where to draw the line between "stuff" and the full, self-reflective version one might share with a close friend. I think too much detail implies an exaggerated sense of self-worth and is hence a greater faux pas than too little detail, so I've always hewed closer to the "stuff" version, but this runs its own risk of suggesting you don't think the other person is important enough to merit the full telling of your own story. It's a minefield and, in the social media era, one that's entirely avoidable. I've never been unable to locate an old friend or classmate online. It's particularly easy for graduates of Harvard, which maintains a great alumni website--it's where Facebook started, after all. Anyone interested in me can find my professional record on LinkedIn, family photos on Facebook, and many hilarious tweets. If one wanted...
