What are the inputs, processing, and outputs of
UPS’s package tracking system?
The goal is to have detailed information about the sender, destination and when the package should arrive. Even before the package is picked up, information from the "smart" label is transmitted to one of the UPS computer centers and then sent to the closest center for the destination, they even download it and create the most efficient delivery route.
The first thing a UPS driver picks up each day is a handheld computer called a Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD), which they can log into and download the route, it's then uploaded for storage that takes less than a minute and processing and can be accessed worldwide for proof or customer queries.
Because of these things what UPS has done is made the delivery as efficient as possible and highly monitored by both them and their customers.
Basically storing all different information such as the destination, the time it should arrive as well as the customers information.

What technologies are used by UPS? How are these technologies related to UPS’s business strategy? Now the second question asks how the technology relates to their business strategy, and the only thing i could find regarding their business strategy is one quote from 1907 that promised:

“The best service and lowest rates.”

So with that in mind lets start with the scannable bar-coded label. It attached to a package which we already mentioned contains important information concerning the package, customers can download and print their own labels using special software provided by UPS or by accessing the UPS Web site. Before the package is even picked up, information from the “smart” label is transmitted to one of UPS’s computer centers this center download the label data and use special software to create the most efficient delivery route for each driver that considers traffic, weather conditions, and the location of each stop. Because of this tracking they can determine the shortest and fastest route to take and save on fuel. In June 2009, UPS launched a new Web-based Post-Sales Order Management System (OMS) that manages global service orders and inventory. With this in mind the technology used is DIAD, GPS, as well as networking.

What strategic business objectives do UPS’s information systems address?
To refrain from repeating our selves using the other answers for the other questions we're going to answer this one shortly and say that it just basically makes it more efficient, like in the quote we used in the second question its also about the performance but always thinking about the customer.

What would happen if UPS’s information systems were not available?
For this it would definitely be very slow at least compared to what they have now, without it alot of horrible things would happen in terms of business of course, without them being able to track with GPS they might not be able to find out the best and fastest route to take, not be able to answer queries from customers or track where the package is so far. It's just be using more money and it would be much slower.
