Any attempt to influence someone’s life needs to be compressive in approach to have lasting effects. An intervention option needs to be aimed not just at Patrick but at the systems that surround them wherever possible. Timing is an important factor in interventions, in Patrick’s scenario accessing accommodation would be one of the first intervention options followed by income and employment and drug and alcohol services. In the Agunya Aboriginal Corporation services that are able to assist the intervention options are obtaining accommodation, support with job training and employment, budgeting and life skills and a drug and alcohol support group. Implementation and goal attainment are also known as action-orientated or change-orientated phase. The goals are usually formulated with the client as plans; the process is best used by dissecting the goals into general tasks that identify strategies to be achieved by Patrick. By dissecting it into task with worker is enhancing self-efficacy and individual empowerment. The most powerful means for enhancing self-efficacy is to assist Patrick in successfully accomplishing specified goals and making him aware of his strengths and to recognise incremental progress towards goal attainment. In a problem-solving approach, goals specify the end results that will be attained by Patrick.

Goals Attainments:
• Accommodation
• Access Centrelink payments
• Maintain substance free
The issues’ confronting Patrick creates barriers from him attaining his goals. Applying a task-centred model allows him to focus on issue that are more important than others. Accommodation is the underlining issue, without accommodation Patrick will continue to be homeless leaving him open to vulnerability to offending behaviour and negative influences, making this issue the main goal to be achieved in the planned intervention. …show more content…
Although in Australia there is no commonly agreed definition the meaning has a general agreement that self-determination is the right of Indigenous Australians to make decisions on issues relating to them and to manage their own affairs (Roberts, 1994: 259). Alternative options for Patrick would incorporate self-determination to access mental health and anger management classes, counselling services to heal from trauma, reconnecting with his Aunty and culture roots and develop new skills/training for future employment. A narrative approach allows encourages Patrick to describe his life in his own words and has the opportunity to tell their story and allow the practitioner to draw attention to the possibility for a different narrative for the future. This approach can help a practitioner understand the pressures the client has faced and the impact of discrimination and oppression (Coventry City Council, 2015).
THEORETICAL APPLICATIONS THAT ARE MOST APPROPRIATE
Connections between theory and practice are not linear process of deduction and induction. Instead they are complex responses to current ideas and social needs. Practitioners often need to adapt theories to practice to process knowledge, the use of self and emotional intelligence often help turn theory into practice.
