Back when cell phones were first invented, they were very bulky and do not look anything like they do today. Those bulky cell phones were only popular among the riches who were the only ones that could afford one. That is why cell phones back then were a luxury and was not very much of a need at all. The bulky cell phones could not do much because all it could pretty much do is make phone calls like a home phone. The only difference between a home phone and a bulky cell phone was that the cell phone you could carry around with yourself. In today’s society, cell phones are pretty much a need among most people. They can make phone calls, send text messages, send emails, play games, roam the internet, pay bills and use social media. The funny part is, that is only the most important things the cell phone can do and can do much more. The scary thing with these cell phones are that pretty much anyone can learn how to use one. It is no longer a luxury item. According to Kathleen O’Brien, “They were luxury items, and use of them in public was a flamboyant declaration that the owner had money to burn” (86). These cell phones have taken over peoples life’s and will continue to do that. The cell phones are also no longer bulky and are as slim as it can get. These cell phones can easily slide into anyone’s pocket with no problem. There are many different kinds of cell phones that can do many different thing with the new technology we have today. The problem with these new cell phones we have in today’s society is that anyone can buy one because they are affordable. The reason why it is affordable because these companies want people to buy them, become addicted to them, and make them want to buy a new one when it comes out. These cell phones are dangerous because they are taking over peoples life’s today.

Banning Cellphones While Driving

...Banning the Use of Cell Phones While Driving Should be Mandatory Nationwide. Cellular phones have served us in many effective ways. They connect people when they are away and need information. They allow us to stay in touch with family and friends. In essence, they keep us communicating. While they are good, they can cause a lot of problems on our roads. Do you believe that using a cell phone while driving causes a driver to be impaired as a driver who is driving under the influence of alcohol? Well, according to research done by psychologists at the University of Utah, “people are as impaired when they drive and talk on a cell phone as they are when they drive intoxicated at a legal blood alcohol limit 0.08 percent, which is the minimum level of an illegal drunken driver in most U.S. states.” Today, more people are being drunken by their cell phones. This impaired driving, according to the psychologists, is also causing a lot of road users to respond slower in many ways than if they were sober. The drivers, they said, take a longer time to hit the brakes, take a slower time to get back to normal speed after breaking and are more capable of being involved in an accident. Can you see the danger in this type of driving? Can you see what could possible happen to pedestrians or other drivers under this type of driving? If as a people we care about our lives as well as the lives of others, then, law makers would enact laws to ban the use of cell phones while driving nationwide...

Why the Use of Cell Phone Should Be Banned While Drving

...Regina Dodson Student ID AC1400470 SP180.1.1 Principles of Public Speaking Assignment 06_06 02-07-2014 I Believe and Persuaded the Use of Cell Phones Should Be Mandatorily Banned Nationwide To Prevent Unnecessary Distractive Driving Banning the use of cell phones should be made mandatory nationwide while driving because it is a one of the nations’ top killers in America. Driving while being distracted kills thousands of people every year. Yet many drivers think they are good at managing both tasks so they continue to text behind the wheel. A car travels approximately 100 yards in less than the 5 seconds it takes to read a text. Texting distracts people from driving properly by diverting their attention to their cell phone, instead of focusing on the road. Furthermore, studies show that texting is as dangerous as driving while intoxicated. Subjects are found to be mentally impaired while driving and chatting on a mobile device as when they are under the influence. These are the top reasons why I believe and am convinced that driving while on a cell phone should be banned in America. Cell Phone Usage as Top Killer in America National statistics show that cell phone usage while driving has become one of the nation’s top killers on our roadways today. According to the Texting and Driving Safety Statistics an average of 1,600,000 accidents are reported each year due to texting while driving. Nearly 25 percent of all accidents nationwide, 11 percent of which are teenagers...

This has been a hot debate topic over many years. Most school administrators regard cell phone use ae disruptive and distracting devices in class, as well as a form of cheating during the examination.. Therefore many school have implemented the policy that prohibit cell phone on school properties. I have the same opinion with most of the schools that cell phone should not be allowed in class. I will set out to prove the argument in this essay To start off with, student use of cell phone in class always break the relationship between teacher and student playing their cell phone in class, it bring a bad feeling to the teachers. An example of this is that most of teachers like student paying attention when teachers are teaching, if a students’ mind running out of study, teacher would consider that student’s action id rude or disrespectable. The relationship between student and teacher is very important, because when students does not respect teachers, teachers would be treat these students differently from other good students. This would result worse treatment, lower mark and so on. In other words, if students do not use cell phone in class, student probably get better education and treatment from their teachers, then student-self may feel more comfortable in the class. Dangers of Texting While Driving

...While Driving There are about 200 million people who drive on the road every day. That’s over two-thirds of the United States population, and ninety-one percent of the population owns a cell phone of some kind. Cell phones have been a growing trend since the turn of the Twenty First Century . They keep family, friends, co-workers, and people around the world connected at the push of a button. What’s startling about those numbers is, “60% of drivers use cell phones while driving” (NTSA). Driving is a daily task that two-thirds of the populations experience every day. Driving is hard enough not being distracted by cell phones. Talking on a cell phone can make a person 1.3 times more likely to get into a crash, and even worse, texting can make a person twenty three times more likely to get into an accident. Getting behind the wheel is a big responsibility. Surely the roads would be a much safer place if cell phones were either put away for the duration of the drive or if there were an app or chip put into phones that detected if they went over ten miles per hour and shut the phones down. Texting and driving may be a dangerous task, but texting at a stop light or stop sign can be understandable. These tasks are performed with the car completely stopped, but even looking down at a cell phone at a light can cause you to miss the light change and hold up traffic, thus causing the people behind you to get mad at you for not paying attention. Even texting at a stop sign can slow up...

Children and Cell Phones Answers to Should Children Be Allowed Cell Phones Before the Age That Is Felt Necessary.

...Children and Cell Phones Answers to Should Children Be Allowed Cell Phones before the Age that is Felt Necessary. Composition 2 Mrs. Morelli March 3, 2014 Children and Cell Phones In today’s world cell phones are the new watch, wallet, or car keys, can’t leave home without them. We’d like to think age plays little part to no part to whether or not a child will have use of or own their a cell phone. If one can think about the contributing factors that play into whether a child has a cell phone or not the thought of who holds that power has to be considered. The child’s ability to have a cell phone comes down to the parents. The parents are held responsible for making this decision whether or not their child is ready or old enough to have a cell phone. According to author Susan Davis of Is Your Child Ready for a Cell Phone, 2014, twice as many students have cells phones since 2004 and 85% of children aged 14-17 – have cell phones. 69% of 11-14 year olds and 31% of kids aged 8-10 according to a 2010 survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The number of cell phones owned by kids or used by kid’s shows that parents agree that it does make their lives feel safer than if they did not have these cell phones. Must also have other benefits other than taking away some of that life stress caused when not knowing where your child is and what they are doing. With all the good and bad that technology brings fourth one must ask themselves this question. Should children...

Activity 9.2 Persuasive Final Draft

...Cell Phone Banned in Restaurants When cell phones first came out there were very few of them and they were the size of a briefcase so people didn’t really take them into restaurants and such. Nowadays though everyone has a cell phone and since they are small enough to fit in your pocket people take them everywhere. You see cell phones everywhere like restaurants, stores, in cars, and at the gym, just to name a few examples. One thing that I am a firm believer in is that there should be a ban on cell phones in restaurants. This happens to be one of my biggest pet peeves; people talking on their cell phones while in restaurants. I want to believe that most people would agree with me that it is just rude to be having a conversation, while on their cell phone, in a restaurant. I mean, who wants to go sit in a restaurant and try to have a nice quiet meal when the person in the booth behind is talking really loud. Me personally, I don’t want people to overhear the conversation that I might be having with my doctor or such. Would you want to hear me talking to my doctor about my hemorrhoids while you are eating your dinner? Yes, this has happened to me. I actually had the waiter move me tables just so my family and I didn’t have to hear the other person’s conversation any longer. It is not only annoying to the customers in the restaurant, but imagine how the employees feel. From a waiter/waitress standpoint it has to be even more frustrating. Imagine...

Cell Phone Technology

...Cell Phone Technology By: Stephanie Lewis For this paper I chose to write about cell phones as my topic. A cell phone is a portable, non-wired phone that you can carry around with you. The name cell phone comes from cellular network, which is basically a bunch of towers. There are two types of cell phones. A cell phone and a smartphone. A cell phone is a simpler phone. You can receive phone calls and texts on it, but that’s about it. A smartphone is the newer technology. A smartphone allows you to check email, Facebook, Twitter, download games, and much more. Plus smart phones are touch screened and the letters and numbers pop up on the screen. All cell phones are battery powered. Yes this means you have to charge them. There are many different cellular carriers. The most common ones are Verizon, AT&T, Straight Talk, and T-Mobile. Cell phones run off of cell towers and calls are actually made through radio links. The earliest known description, as far as we know, was in a science fiction novel called Space Cadet in 1948. The first actual cell phone did not come out until 1984. This cell phone was the Dyna Tac 8000X. This phone had to be charged after thirty minutes of use. Really. Cell phones have come a long way since then. First, they have changed how we interact with one another and our relationships. Now I didn’t say it was good or bad, you be the judge. I personally think cell phones are corrupting us. Cell phones are good for coordinating with others and keeping...

Phones are a part of a culture and also help represent what type of person we are and what we stand for at times. Not being so judgmental but our phones can tell us a huge part of our personality as well. Take a close look at the phone you use. If it is more on the stylish side, you’re a person who cares a lot about fashion trends. If it is a simple phone, only serving basic purposes like calling and texting messages, it shows that you’re someone who lives life on her own terms. You don’t care a damn about the latest trends. If you use a cell phone with a qwerty keypad, it shows that you are a friendly person. A cell phone with a great camera is usually used by a person who loves to cherish memories. Bad Habits Created Through Technology

...the advancements of technology can be bad there is proof that it has distracted people from the simple things in life that are necessities to focus on. In todays society text messaging is the most common way of getting in touch with people, however cellphones are becoming a major distraction. Texting has become so severe that people would rather sit on their phones and talk to certain people then talk to the actual people they are with. Everyday I notice a peer texting during class, they become glued to their phone and are not aware of the conversation happening around them. All over Plymouth and all other college campuses students are constantly distracted by texting in the class room. As texting becomes more common so does texting and driving, which “caused around 1.3 million crashes in 2011”(text statistics). and has significantly increased since then. It should be common courtesy to keep your phone away while driving to protect others, however millions of people are doing it every day because they are addicted. The constant use of cellphones in todays society continues to increase and with that phones have taken over the classroom and the road. Most teenagers these days have “Smart Phones” which are phones that are able to access the internet, play games, text, and take photos. The most common smartphone’s on the market are the Iphone and the Android. Both devices are similar to one another and can download applications.
