Best Person to Make People Laugh Award
Bill Murray To Begin I would like to say one of my favorite quotes of Bill Murray from probably one of his most well known movies. Dr. Peter Venkman (Ghostbusters):
"Back off man. I'm a scientist."
That is what Bill Murray really is. He is a scientist in real life on how to make people laugh. It has been said that Bill Murray is a hard person to work with on set because he is always changing the script to what he believes is funnier and sometimes doesn’t even resemble what he was scripted to do. All of these directors though ticked off at the time do agree with the changes that Bill made because it is funnier than what was written.
Bill Murray was born in Wilmette, Illinois, USA on September 21, 1950. When Bill was young he was quite a mischievous child, managing to get himself kicked out of both the Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball. He had his young rebellious years growing up and he was going in the wrong direction after he dropped out of college. He recognized this and decided to join his older brother, Brian Doyle-Murray, in the cast of Chicago's Second City improvisational comedy troupe. Murray eventually moved to New York City where he took his comedic talents on air in National Lampoon Hour alongside Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner and John Belushi. In 1975, both Murray brothers were in an off-Broadway spin-off of the radio show when Bill was spotted by sportscaster Howard Cosell, who recruited him for the cast of his ABC variety program, Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell (Bill). On NBC, a program also named Saturday Night Live was creating a much bigger sensation( Bill). A year later producer Lorne Michaels tapped Murray to replace Chevy Chase, who had moved on to pursue a film career (Bill).
It was on the set of Saturday Night Live that Murray created the sleazy, insincere comedic character that became his calling card for many films to come. He also earned an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for his work on the show (Biography). His first big film role was with the 1979 hit Meatballs (Bill). In 1980, he acted in the hilarious cult classic Caddyshack. But I believe the key movie in his acting career was Ghostbusters in 1984 with Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. This comedy was one of the decade's biggest hits, which spawned a cartoon series, action figures, numerous kinds of toys and clothes and even a chart-topping theme song. I know that when I’m asked about what songs I associate Halloween with I will always say Michael Jackson’s Thriller promptly followed by The Ghostbusters theme song.
Bill Murray’s acting career has had many ups and downs over the last thirty years. But because of his personality and drive on attitude Bill has made his way into everyone’s hearts as someone that can always make you laugh. I think Bill Murray would be the perfect subject for a study on what makes people laugh (Tribute). But I’m not going to let you forget that he is also a talented actor (Tribute). Bill Murray is really an unpredictable actor. But whatever he does I am sure it will be great.

...Bill Davis Davis 1 Professor ENG 111 15 September 2010 Not Your Typical Fast Food Restaurant When you first look think of McDonald’s, you probably think of just a place to pick up a quick, cheep meal. In some cases, this is true. McDonalds is one of the most widely known and popular fast food restaurants around the world. It may not be a place for a romantic date, but there are not too many places you can go have a dinner with your family with the bill coming out to be under twenty dollars. Sure the food may be unhealthy, but it is the cheapest and most efficient route to satisfying your appetite. This may be why McDonald’s has become such a powerful food chain. But after visiting I realized the many different features that make this restaurant so attracting to people. Around lunchtime at noon, I walked across the parking lot, I noticed the drive through was packed with people just waiting to get their meals and get on the road. So I walked inside the doors of the McDonald’s, passed the cashier, and took a seat in one of the booths in the dining area. The booths were big and comfortable and they were all along walls of the dining area. This area was designated for people that wanted to sit down and enjoy their meals. People are spread out around the tables and booths far enough to where they are not invading other peoples conversations. ...

...ECPSC- 2013 CURRENT AFFAIRS HANDOUT NO 13 LOKPAL BILL 1. Background. Following this, the Lokpal Bill was for the first time presented during the fourth Lok Sabha in 1968, and was passed there in 1969. However, while it was pending in the Rajya Sabha, the Lok Sabha was dissolved, and so the bill was not passed at that time. Ceremonial Performance in Hopi Culture

...or personifications of things in the real world. In Hopi culture, these Kachinas are embodied by masked members of the tribes who dress up like them for religious ceremonies.  Ceremonies were the most predominant interest of the Hopi people. In fact, they were the focal point of most of their thought and energy, and an expression of their genius. The Hopi believed that the Kachinas lived in the San Francisco Mountains, where they remained for half of the year. The other half of the year, there were numerous ceremonies that took place, bringing the Kachinas to their tribes. The second half of the year was devoted to the various ceremonies which were part of their religion, and performed in an attempt to bring rain. There is evidence of ceremonial calendars that marked the dates for each of the sacred ceremonies. These ceremonies can be considered performances, as they combined music, dance and song in one art form. The Kachina dances played a huge role in Hopi culture; every man took an active part in the dances throughout his life, and the women and children were also involved, but in different ways such as preparation and audience participation. Also, there were hundreds of different Kachina spirits that were embodied in performance, and all served a purpose to teach the Hopi people about spirituality and life on earth, and more importantly, to bring rain so their crops would flourish. There is also concrete evidence of these rituals found in stone paintings that have been......

Bill Clinton Speech

...Criticizing Bill Clinton Speech Essay “If a President of the United States ever lied to the American people he should resign” William J. Clinton,1974 Introduction: Critics should pay a very special attention to the Bill Clinton apology speech. The speech of the ex-president Bill Clinton was a bright example of how perfect rhetoric techniques might fail to deliver the message of a president to a mass audience if it goes about his morality. In his speech, Clinton, actually confesses he had a private relationship with Monica Lewinsky. It is a rule that such a confession and especially from a person of the highest position in the society means the end of the career. It took William Jefferson Clinton seven month to realize that people need apologies not for the deed, but for the lies. A close look at the speech opens a wide range of elements did not manage to make it truly appealing for the citizens of the United States of America. In his speech, Mr. Clinton admitted he did a wrong thing and at the same time he did not truly show how much he regretted that his “misbehavior” lead to irreversible consequences in his private and political life. The key failure of the speech is that Mr. Clinton moved the accent away from the affair he had to the necessity to concentrate on more important things. In other words he told the society that they are stuck on unserious matters, while important political events are taking place. Bill Clinton’s goal was to make people get over the......

Paul Murray

...Paul Murray* Paul Murray would soon graduate from business school with his MBA. He had accepted a fine job offer. Paul’s wife, Nancy, was an attorney with a local firm specializing in corporate law. Paul and Nancy were expecting their first child a few months after Paul’s graduation. With the experience of paying for their own graduate educations fresh in their minds, Paul and Nancy recognized that they would have to plan early to accumulate enough money to send their child through four years of college. Paul wanted to accumulate a fund equal to four times the first year’s tuition, room, and board by the time his child entered college. Paul and Nancy assumed that these fees might increase, perhaps annually, through the four years of college. However, if they invested the funds appropriately, the investments would yield enough to cover the increase in fees through the four years of college. Ideally, Paul and Nancy wanted their child to be able to choose among an array of public or private colleges with good academic reputations. A recent newspaper article had indicated that the average tuition, room, and board at private four-year institutions was about $15,000 per year. They felt that if their child were entering college this coming fall, $18,000 per year for tuition, room, and board would provide the range of choice they sought. Questions: 1. In the recent past, college fees had been increasing at about 8 percent per year. Because this rate of increase exceeded......

Rhetorical Analysis of Charles Murray

...throughout the years has caused the question to become even more relevant. Charles Murray, an author from the American Enterprise Institute, wrote the essay entitled “Are Too Many People Going to College?” Murray’s essay sought ought to explain that universities are being filled with students who are either not prepared for higher education or who are compelled into attending college and are unable to succeed because the lack of inherent abilities. While Murray makes many pertinent points about America’s infatuation with the B.A as a standard into a class of intellectual elite the essay does not take into consideration the individual influences that may lead to a student’s success. This essay will analyze and critique Murray’s view of why the pursuit of a B.A can lead to more harm than good. Murray’s main argument throughout his essay is that the perceived reward of a college degree disseminates to those seeking higher education and inevitably does more harm than good. He argues that many students do not have the ability to enjoy and finish a four year degree. This leads the student to being stigmatized and in debt due to his or her failure. Murray further establishes his argument by saying that more people continue to go to college because they are programmed into believing, regardless of their abilities, to pursue college as an essential development into becoming a beneficial U.S citizen. Murray claims that he is not against higher education but that there are alternate......

Ceremonial Worship

...AFRICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF BUSINESS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY KISII CAMPUS BIB105: OLD TESTAMENT LITERATURE TERM PAPER: The ceremonial worship in the Old Testament (the tabernacle as a central place of worship) STUDENT NO: 13m04ebt004 MASUMBUO MPATHE ZIRO The sanctuary An introduction: Unquestionably, the greatest revelation of the love and character of God was at the cross, where the Lord offered Himself in the person of Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. To help human beings to understand better what this great sacrifice meant, God devised the earthly sanctuary – modeling the heavenly sanctuary – as a pictorial representation of the plan of salvation ( Hebrews 8:5,Kjv). The sanctuary as a central place of worship serves as a teaching tool to help us then and now understand Jesus as our savior a high priest. The sanctuary – a heavenly plan for Gods residence in man “Let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them”……. “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you?”(Exodus 25:8,9; 1 Corinthian’s 3:16, Kjv). In profound simplicity and challenging depth God has revealed the way of salvation in the symbolism of the ancient Hebrew sanctuary. Said the psalmist, “Thy way, o God is in the sanctuary”(Psalms 77:13). And Jesus said of Himself, “Iam the way”(John 14:6). As the shekinah glory dwelt within the wilderness......

Bill of Rights

...Bill Of Rights In 1791, the Bill of Rights, consisting of 10 amendments, was ratified into the constitution. The document’s purpose was to spell out the liberties of the people that the government could not infringe upon. Considered necessary by many at the time of its development, the Bill of Rights became the cause for a huge debate between two different factions: The Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. The Federalists were those who thought that there should be a new Union created with a strong centralized government and individual regional governments. They felt that it was not necessary for there to be a bill of rights because it was implied that those rights the Constitution did not specifically state would be handed down to the states. On the other hand, the Anti-Federalists were opposed to such a form of government on the grounds that the Constitution, in which it was outlined, lacked clarity in the protections of the individuals. The Anti-Federalists—whose memory of British oppression was still fresh in their minds—wanted certain rights and guarantees that were to be apart of the constitution (Glasser 1991). A clear demonstration of the Anti-Federalist attitude was performed by Samuel Bryan, who published a series of essays named the ‘Cenitnal Essays,’ which “assailed the sweeping power of the central government, the usurpation of state sovereignty, and the absence of a bill of rights guaranteeing individual liberties such as freedom of speech and freedom of...

Bill

...More views against the RH bill are pouring in. Apparently they have not been considered by the Lower House Committee before the bill was endorsed to the entire body for approval in the plenary session. Hence for the enlightenment of our legislators and the entire citizenry, presented here are some more of these views, one of them coming from a lawyer Atty. Rex A. Salvilla who clearly and ably refutes some stand of the bill’s advocates: “First, the advocates say that the opponents of RH bill are anti-poor for allowing population explosion. This is not true because the opponents, like the advocates are also for population control. Both differ only on the method of control – the advocates thru condom which cost money while the opponents thru natural family planning which costs not a single centavo but only mere discipline on the part of the spouses So, who is anti-poor? It is the advocates. Second, the advocates say that they are pro-choice. This is not also true. The draft bill contains a penal clause punishing by imprisonment and/or fine those obstructing the use of condoms and promoting family planning. Is this not like tying a person to a post and telling him, “You are free”? So, where is “pro-choice” here? In fact, the bill is a “no-choice” piece. Third, the advocates say that the Pope supports condom use. This is interpreting the Pontiff out of context. The Pope simply provided an exception in the same way that God has also provided exceptions to His own commandments.......

Ceremonial Speech

...Ceremonial Speech Manuscript I would to thank all the RAZZIE members for selecting my film as the worst in 2010. I didn’t think that making an eighth installment of the Police Academy series was a good idea, but the studio made me an offer that was hard to turn down (especially after my wife saw all those zeros). The studio started me off with a decent script, but every other day a different executive would visit the set and make a “suggestion” that isn’t really a suggestion, but rather since I am here I need to look important and pretend that I am earning my paycheck. Despite all my protesting, executives don’t like to be told no, even if they have never written, directed or produced a movie. They took what could have been a decent movie and turned it into a wild sequence of special effects and explosions. How bad did it go? Well here are a few quotes from some of the movie critics: * “Utterly preposterous, just when you thought the series might get revived.” * “Where to begin counting the misdemeanors of this miserable, soulless travesty?” * “Abysmal...a serious miscalculation.” * “Apparently, somebody thought it was time for a series reboot. Clearly, somebody was dead wrong.” * “Exciting and exhilarating, the series is coming back” (I pretty sure this was meant for a different movie). While the film was not a complete waste, I have to thank all the actors and actresses for not giving up half-way through the movie. Despite all the......
