Challenges I face this semester at Grand Canyon University This semester I will face many challenges this semester while in School. The issues I think I will be faced with are my schedule, getting good grades this semester, debit and my health issues. The first challenge is my schedule is very busy with school, working two jobs and studying. I am working two Jobs. One Job is twenty hours a week the second job is about 12 but if there are events it could be more like this last weekend I work 9 hours Saturday and 8 hours Saturday. I am trying to study 25 hours a week and I have not been able to do that. I am working on making a weekly schedule on excel to get it figure out. The second challenge is my financial issues. I have a lot of debit that I am trying to get paid off. I also found out Friday that the route cannel I need is not covered and the total cost for the route cannel is 1,300 which I can do a monthly payment plan for but it requires a down payment I am having to wait for that to take care of it. The third challenge is my health issues which are pain and diarrhea. I have had lots of test done and there is no indications into why I am having the pain and diarrhea. This semester I am facing many challenges and Philippians 4:13 is what I am living by right now which says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Conducting Reasearch

...As I attend English 104 this semester I plan on learning many new things. The main thing that I expect to learn and improve is how to research more efficiently. According to the course goals explained on the syllabus, I will also learn to create and complete research projects by generating a research question, engaging in critical reading, developing an argument with evidence collected from both primary and secondary research, and also how to site my sources. I believe that with better research techniques I will be able to communicate what I have learned into writing more easily as well as make my essays more knowledgeable. One of my challenges I will face in English 104 will be getting motivated to write the actual essays. I have never really liked writing that much and I think that if I am going to become a successful business major I will have to get better at translating my thoughts onto paper. Another challenge I may face this semester is procrastination. No matter what I am doing I always find a way to procrastinate, especially in college. My goal this semester is to be a better student and stay on top of my schoolwork. The way my schedule is set up right now I know I will have a lot of busy work and I will just have to dedicate myself to my studies. Overall I think that English 104 will be a great class and I am looking forward to this semester. One of the most recent incidents where I had to conduct research was just the other day. As a Christmas present I was......

Law School Personal Statement

...For as long as I can remember, I've never been complacent with the knowledge I possess. Constantly setting new goals that will stretch my mind into something that it was not the day before and allowing every experience to shape me, while never loosing a handle on my own personal convictions and what I have learned along the way, has always been a way of life for me. For me, pursuing a legal education is not a terminal accomplishment, nor will obtaining a legal degree quench this ongoing thirst for knowledge that I have always had; I don't want it to. I constantly need to be in pursuit of challenging goals that that require considerable mind expansion and personal reflection. The experiences and knowledge that I will acquire in attending law school will stretch my mind to think in ways that I never have, allowing me to face future intellectual, professional, and academic goals with confidence and enthusiasm. Mid way through my senior year, the University of Arizona choose me to be their undergraduate representative at the "Arizona First" town hall meeting, a three day, bipartisan conference focus on shaping legislation that will bring economic growth and prosperity to AZ. During this three day conference I worked closely with Arizona state representatives and senators, the majority of whom where lawyers, in proposing new legislation with the potential of bringing new job opportunities, more commerce, and an overall better standard of living to the state. It was one of the......

Graduate Study Challenges

...Graduate Study Challenges and Strategies for Personal Success When deciding to return to graduate school, a person has made an excellent step in advantaging their knowledge in their particular career field. Before returning to graduate school, most people have given serious thought to the time commitment that they will have to face for the next two to four years. They have had many sleepless nights and day dreamed about the stress they will face to complete a graduate degree. Therefore entering a graduate program should not be taken lightly. In many disciplines it is required to have a graduate degree to practice independently in that career field (e.g. Social Worker and Psychologist). Nursing is now requiring nurses to have a graduate degree to advance into management positions. Employers are demanding their nurses to have more than just the knowledge to care for patients. They want the nurse who is placed in a management role to have the knowledge to be a leader. Nurses are returning to school to gain more knowledge in their career field, increase effective communication skills, have a higher potential for promotion, and to have a greater earning power. When deciding to return to graduate school, a student must have a strategy that is going to get them through the next two-four challenging years of their life. Personal and Professional Goals My reason for pursuing a graduate degree is to gain more knowledge in the healthcare industry, become a more......

Ah Ha Moment

...For me, I feel as if there have been many “ah ahh” moments during the first three months of my time in the Barry University CRNA program. I have had my ups and downs throughout my first semester and I have learned a wealth of new information related to my profession. And I also know that everything we have learned is only the tip of the iceberg and we will continue to have “ah ahh” moments throughout the rest of our 25 more months in this program as well as when we are clinical CRNAs and working as a professional in this field. I think one of my first big “ah ahh” moments came to me during the wellness lecture by Janet DeWan. I struggled in the beginning of the semester with getting back into the mode of studying daily and keeping up with reading and school work as I had been removed from the full time school load for two years during my time as an ICU nurse. I was exhausted and struggling to keep up with my daily reading and studying for multiple very intense courses in this program. I thought I was the only one who was struggling and becoming overwhelmed. I wasn’t alone, and I learned that in talking with my classmates. I was able to talk to them about their own personal struggles and stresses that they were facing with this program as well and we became a support system for each other. Janet Dewan then talked to us about the stresses we face as SRNAs and later in life as CRNAs and the importance of finding our own coping mechanisms for that stress so that we do......

Success Plan

...Strategies The Three strategies that I am using from the success strategies guide are to stay motivated, choose a great study environment, and to do the hardest or my least favorite task first. The reason that I chose these three strategies are that staying motivated is key, without motivation you will not have the drive or the desire to accomplish a task and keeping my eyes on the prize is all the motivation that I need. Choosing a great study environment is key for me because this will limit my distractions and sitting in my favorite chair is very important because it makes me feel comfortable and when I feel good I tend to have a positive outlook on doing my work. And lastly I chose to do the hardest assignment first because it usually requires the most attention and when I get to easier assignments I will find them even easier and will feel good while doing them because I will not have to stress over doing a harder assignment next. Out of these three the most beneficial to me is staying motivated because like I said before without the motivation to do a task it will more than likely not get done and if it is completed it will not be up to the standard set by the instructor. I have changed my routine greatly since beginning school, for instance I don’t go home and play video games or watch television like before. I have set times to do these things and they usually happen after I finish that week’s assignment. Some of the things that I picked up from my......

My First Term

...been most challenging term in my stay at US. I faced a lot of difficulties at the beginning of this term despite this is not my first term at Duquesne, so things went not as I expected. It is such feelings which make life interesting as we always have new problems and challenges to deal with but also have some interesting events going on. As soon this semester started I tried to do my best to develop my skills and to incorporate to this new culture. I faced two main difficulties which made me more stronger than before In facing problem. One difficulties that I faced at the beginning of this semester is some misunderstanding in the registration of my classes. The head of ESL program told me that I did not register for the Grammar and Graduate Research Paper. I was shocked because I already registered for these two classes before I went to Saudi Arabia in the Summer. they told me that there were no more spaces for me. I faced a bad treatment which made me angry and so depressed. They may have missed my file, so they did not register me. Fortunately, they overcame the problem, and they opened another grammar section. Another thing which I did not like they put me in the Term Paper class instead of the Graduate Research Paper which made me sad, but recently I realized it is better for me. Another difficulties that I faced is when I took my first academic class, I felt uncomfortable, and I did not know how to deal with this new class and how the class will look......

...Module: SBUS1006D Developing Academic Competencies Essay Title: “Reflection on your learning in Semester 1” Submitted by Wayne Kenny Student Number: 11271868 Lecturer: Oonagh Sweeney Submission Date: 16th March 2012 Word count: 1,544 Introduction Learning is further developing the skills and knowledge you have already bringing with it the opportunity to acquire new skills and gain more knowledge. The way in which one person learns can differ from one to the next as we experienced in semester 1. When we got together as a class to discuss how we prepared for assignments and exams we discovered many different approaches, the student’s opinions of what was best practice varied from student to student. Part A Learning Style This was the first time I had looked at different learning styles as thought to define them in a group or category i.e. Visual, Auditory, Reading & Writing and Kinaesthetic learners. I wasn’t sure what category I fell into and if known was going to even benefit me in anyway. In order to understand the first exercise I needed to do was reflect on my prior learning experience of semester 1 to help me understand my own preferred learning style. It became clear as to why this exercise was beneficial to me as a student; I started to understand what style suited me best and as equally important what style I didn’t using when learning. The definition of a learning style is described by (McMillan and Wayers,......

Placement

...Essay I am a transfer student from Santa Monica Community College in Los Angeles, California. This is my first semester in Northeastern University and I am currently enrolled in 5 different classes, including English 1111. I am a Chinese who is born and raised in Malaysia, and apparently English is not my first language. I started to learn English since I was 10, and decided to study abroad in United States when I was 20. I have taken a few English classes since I came to the United States, and I have learned a lot from each of my English professors, which increased my current level of confidence and skill in writing. In this semester, I have enrolled 4 different classes such as Managerial Accounting, Personal Skill Development for Business, International Business and Global Social Responsibility, and Business Statistic. All of these classes are related to business studies, which is my major. Among so many different concentrations in business, I have chosen finance because my father has influenced me in many ways since I was young. He is an active trader on the share market with an extensive portfolio. Therefore, he always shares his insights with me and teaches me how to perform technical analysis and fundamental analysis to identify the intrinsic value of a company. Eventually, this makes me have more interest in finance and the stock market. I am confident that I have much to offer and I am geared to learn more in Northeastern University. First of all, the class I......

Practicum I Reflection

...Latricia Blades Practicum I Reflection 3 December 5, 2013 There are several factors that are influential when deliberating over how much a student learns in the classroom such as social status, wealth and family background. Nevertheless, teachers play an essential role in each of their students’ education. It is vital that students seek a continuous pursuit for knowledge, but it is the responsibility of the teachers to provide the guidance needed to succeed. My perception of teaching and learning since the beginning of the semester has not changed because of what I have learned in my classes or what I have observed at Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School. What both experiences have done is confirmed my understanding of teaching and learning as being a challenging yet rewarding process. Teaching the whole student and helping them build on their skills around critical thinking, researching, and the general fusion of written and verbal knowledge in a caring and connected way that teachers need to do constantly but can also be a challenge. According to Brown & Knowles (2007), “As educators, we are obligated and responsible to create curriculum that has meaning” (p. 208) and would help students understand how social and cultural contexts can shape their learning. Teaching and learning are entwined through almost every aspect of life and once students understand and are willing to entangle themselves in both the reward for student and teacher can......

Katanis (2000, p100) says that “the experiences during the first semester at university may be critical in student’s decisions to continue or discontinue studies”. The student transition can be considered as a transition from adolescence to adulthood in which students have to be critical about their future decisions and take responsibility from their actions. This transition could be also considered complex for students because it introduces new challenges and issues, especially in academic literature. In this essay, it will be explained how university can help students to face issues and challenges, means of support that are accessible at the University of Westminster during first year and finally analyze strategies and actions to succeed this transition.

Students during the first semester appreciate personal encounters with tutors, which enables them to create and prevent an identity during the transition. However, it seems that they do not get personal encounters because according to Briggs et al (2012) studies have shown the absence of individual contact with staff. Despite, 90% positive ratings for overall university experience given by......

What a Learning Experience

...execution.” It has been a tough semester, I would say. It is not yet finished but definitely, this is one of the few semesters that I’ve had that I would really look into the future. As to what I have quoted above, “great experience comes from great execution”, this is, I’d say, what I have really learned in this subject. Giving your best in order for you and the group to achieve a really memorable experience. Giving your full efforts, love and care to what you are doing in order for you to not regret anything in the future. It is challenging yourselves to be better ones to be able to inspire and let others learn from what you have learned and achieved. The teamwork among us, BSHM 3-1D, had been challenged when we had our first event, the Food and Beverage Seminar among the BSHM First Year Students. We’ve gotten a long and challenging way before we were able to execute such successful event. Humbly speaking, it was truly one of the best shots that the block has exerted in order to make a better one. Some of the things that I could say I have learned in this subject, Conventions and Events Management, is being able to persevere on things that come or happen inevitably. Each and everyone’s patience was really tested during the preparation of the event, with the practice sessions, updates per committees, cooperation of each, finalization on where and when to hold the event, final speakers to talk on the seminar, these are only some of the challenges that I could proudly......

Assignment 1

...April 2016 Semester, Global Issues and Society, GLB-301-OL010 Assignment #1 757-773-2108, spltatms@kgldcable.com a. It seems tough to summarize what this course goals hope to achieve. The scope of the course itself is very broad, which might make it seem daunting, but I will try my best to convey what we hope to achieve this semester. The overarching goals for this course will attempt to impart a broadened knowledge of world ranging issues in today's society. It will attempt to awaken us about how these issues will impact ours and others lives now and in the future, how even though some issues may seem totally disconnected, seeking information will lead you to understand that many of today's challenges are very much affected by each other in one respect or another. It will teach us as citizens of the world to use the information we acquire about these issues to hopefully bring some change to bear, to act as an agent of change in the world, or even just to open up the eyes and ears of someone else, to the plight of the world at large, not just whoever is immediately around them or in the smaller world of the latest technology. The course should help us develop a larger sense of curiosity toward the issues facing the world, appreciate and understand how other peoples view the problems facing global society, and to finally affect change on how we've understood the issues and figured out who those affected feel. After the twelve weeks is over I......

Training Development

...essay Personal Development Plan Final Reflection Essay In my previous personal development plan, I had made several initiatives through which I hoped to achieve certain goals both in academics and in social life. In the previous personal development plan, I had embarked more on the process that I believe would help me to think about my own learning, performance and achievements as well as to plan my personal, educational, social and career development. Since I made the plan within the PDP, there are certain changes that I have witnessed happening in my career, social and learning areas. For example, I have noted that for the last one semester, I have improved in a number of areas that I had pointed in my last PDP. In academics, I have achieved a lot, as my average grades have improved from the previous B+ to an A. This is primarily because I was able to develop clear SWOT analysis, in which I recognized my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats not only in academics, but also in my social life, extra-curricular activities and any other activity I took. With this plan, I worked hard to perfect my strengths, correct the weaknesses and make them my strong points, utilize the opportunities placed within my abilities and finally recognize and avoid any negative effect that was posed by the threats in the SWOT analysis (Bolton 2010). From these considerations, I recognized that some of my strengths were the ability to work under strict deadlines, carry out......

Statement of Purpose

...Motivation I cannot trace back the moment when I first heard this statement that the more energy from sunlight strikes the earth in an hour than all of the energy consumed on the planet in one year but I wondered at that time, why are we having energy problems on earth. This was the start of fascination to look keenly into the problem of making alternate energy sources more practical. This fascination about renewable energy made me think more and more with open mind about the available large amount of energy which is gift of the nature to us. If we have made our life worse by not taking care of the nature then to use nature positively is the only way for us to save our planet. But I always wondered why we could not still use these sources for all our needs. But I knew if I had to go into the root of this thing, my aspiration should be coupled with the strong technical base and other necessary dependent aspects. In my third year I took course on “Renewable Energy” that gave me knowledge about different kinds of renewable energy systems. The course structure covered major part of it - Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Bio-Energy etc. And it was more like the base for my future endeavor. Fortunately having centre of Excellence in Energy in our college (Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan) gave me several opportunities to get exposure of Energy field. In the 5th semester, The Centre of Excellence in Energy at IIT Rajasthan conducted a Renewable Energy Consortium in 2010 in......

The Challenge of Studying Aboard

...The Challenge of studying abroad         With the development of globalization, people are seeking useful ways to become more internationalize to adapt to the future world. As a result, parents support their children to study abroad for further studies and adapt to different cultures. The numbers of students studying abroad have been increased largely in the twenty years. Undoubtedly, students can widen their horizons, get more life experiences and become more independent through studying abroad. However, every coin has two sides and studying abroad is not an exception. Studying abroad has a lot of fun, but certainly not easy. As a student, I personally think that the most challenge thing is the academic study. The challenge of academic language study consists in following classes, reading textbooks in timely period (Lin, Yi), understanding professors' words, taking lecture notes, and giving oral presentations (Ziyan, Hong), asking professors questions and interacting in seminar discussions and so on. I, personally, think the reading and oral speech are very hard to international students especially to Chinese students in Saint Louis University because all my Chinese friends are struggling in reading English texts and communicating clearly in class. In colleges, students have many resources to read before and after classes. The challenges in reading reflect in two aspects. First, the number of reading assignments are more than that you excepted. My friends me all struggle to...
