The most important part of a play is not only the diction but also the way the play is set. Trifles is a mystery that is underway being solved, if the play is not set up correctly then it can give off a different tone then you would want. It is necessary to set up Trifles with the correct lighting, costumes, set design and characters if you want to give off the right tone.
The first thing that will be done to give off the right feel would be picking the characters. I feel as though all the characters are in their late 50’s because of the diction they use throughout the play. If you were to put young characters to act out the play then the wording would not match up with the characters. Keeping the characters at an older age means that keeping the wording of the original play is vital. …show more content…
The diction also leads us to believe that the play is set back in the mid or early 1900’s. Since the time frame is not modern time then the setting has to match that time era. The Kitchen is the center of the play so I want this to be the only scene that we see because the only time the scene changes is when the men go outside or when they go upstairs however, the focus is still on the kitchen where the ladies are at. In the kitchen it would be ideal to have white tile flooring with white cabinets and a butcher block counter top because the house is set in the country. With the house in the country the kitchen has to reflect that. I think that the kitchen should be decorated in chickens because it gives foreshadowing of the finding of a bird and at the same time allows the kitchen to fit into the country
