Changing Role of Hospitality IT Hospitality business information technology systems have advance in technology because the older days of hotel telephone workers and recordkeeping by hand. Managers in the hospitality industry have influential devices or systems within hands reach. This allows them to achieve a bigger picture in the organizations operational environment and the financial situation by using the information technology systems. Hospitality services have increased throughout the years of time, making managers oblige to finding better technology systems and means to manage information technology produce by the organization’s daily operations. This modern technology is converting information into data, the managers can use this information to maximize revenue with the organization’s investments that was once impossible to compile by hand. Regardless of the geographical distance statability gives business rank managers the ability to access data instantly from numerous restaurant or hotel sites. This system uses web-base tools to gain and distribute data or information to the hospitality managers. Statability uses an assortment of data mining tools to mine data from hotel and restaurant hospitality systems in use worldwide (Nyheim, McFadden, & Connolly, 2005). The data generate in the reports by this application from the statistics gathered from the information technology system is accessible instantly, giving managers knowledge to act instantly. Corporate organizations in hospitality can use the comprehensive data given by the database system to offer and predict the needs of their consumers. This database collects electronic files holding information on consumer’s records, files, and fields. One of the deciding factors in gaining the competitive edge is exceptional customer service and with this database any hotel can gain the advantage. A well organized and managed database system is one tool a hospitality organization can use to provide the specific, personalized customer service that today’s sophisticated consumers demand (Tesone, 2006). Efficiencies/Cost Control of Database Systems Any hospitality corporation with their own information technology section has alternatives to buy software, design platforms, implement computer programs, and support database management programs independently. In trying to make a decision, an organization must look at the costs and risks involved (Tesone, 2006). Any information technology section should be able to troubleshoot and maintain the database they have designed. Ultimately, some employees will receive promotions and move forward to another job position, implementing safeguard procedure when this happens within the company. The information technology section can make an investment by buying support and software from an outside source or vendor. Any employer can make investments into a web-based database system and expand the company’s website conducting research, have company meetings and make sure the finances are in place. Many employees will see the benefits by implementing such database systems in the company because this will cut the time needed by an employee to conduct tasks or goals. Implementing a database system will make customers feel at ease when using the website, thus increasing the awareness of the company. Use of Data for Decision-Making Here is an example of data use for decision-making process. A special needs children summer camp using the database to hold confidential, financial, and important personal information about the campers as well as their families. The data is accumulating on the campers or customers from an access point inside the global distribution system. The data is spread across the entire system contributing the customers needs and allowing feedback from the consumer. The global distribution system compliments and affects the function of the customer in a unique way ever understanding in history. The customers’ needs are important in the hospitality world and the global distribution system can address the changes. This system can monitor events, note preferences on customer purchases, and record trends in the economy using the global distributing system. Each piece of data or information collected gives the system strength when in use. The competitive advantage of this system can be relative to any company. These companies feed information into the system, which in turn provides data for other companies and help with consumer feedback. The global distributing system gives the company success and also gives back to the consumer because the company uses this system for consumer needs.
