Changing with the Wind

As time passes, there are many things that change with it. Some changes bring out a positive outcome, and the rest, are the ones that ought to be regretted. There has been a change of behavior in the men of present time with respect to our parents’ generation. Some changes have made men succeed more than their parents but some have made them careless of what goes around in the world surrounding them. Men have become more self-obsessed and disrespectful of their parents. On the other hand, the determination to achieve remains the same for all men. The behavior of present men as compared to their parents’ generation has changed a lot in terms of attitude and habits, but their drive to succeed remains the same.
Back in the old days, men used to only think about their families, friends and parents. Men of this present generation have become more self-conscious than their older generation. They tend to think about themselves more and more as time passes. Men nowadays care too much about how they look, how they dress, how they talk and even how they eat, whereas all this was uncommon in the older generation. Men have started to care more about the cars they drive, the watches they wear and the perfumes they put on; all of these situations do put the modernized man in much troubles such as credit debts etc. Self-obsession, by itself is not a major change in men, it is those other factors too that change the behavior of men overall. The older generation lived a much simpler and happier life back then unlike the men of the robotic age.
Nowadays men have unhealthy habits such as eating junk food, wasting of time in front of the television and the addiction to the technology. Present men eat too much junk food and they don’t prefer having a healthy diet. However, the older generation had a diet that included non-processed food which made them live

Climate Change In California Essay

...Climate change is a modern fact of science that can not be denied. It is slowly shifting and changing the environment around us and we are not merely innocent bystanders to the whole affair. California’s as well the world’s dependence upon fossil fuels, largely oil and natural gas has only contributed to the increase in carbon in the atmosphere hastening climate change and its effects. It is with this knowledge that therefore California must look towards means of alleviating its contributions to climate change as well as fighting it. The state of California along with the entire United States of America, must shift from the dependence on fossil fuel and non-renewable energy to renewable energy sources by the year 2050 to deal with the...

Forecasting

...Forecasting for DynaSol Ryan Molinelli 1. a) The average Bias is negative therefore the forecast will be too low. b) After changing the periods for the moving forecast to 1,2,3,4,5 I found that the lowest MAD is at 1 period. This is because our deviation in the demand is very small and a more receptive moving average would work more efficiently than a larger one. c). The new demand totals had a higher deviation, after placing the different moving averages in I have concluded that the lowest MAD results at 5. This is because of the higher deviated demand which makes a longer moving average better with less error. 2. a) The alternating pattern is more likely caused by seasonality, if you look at the demand there are periods of high demand and periods of low demand that alternate like seasons. Heating equipment has higher demand in the colder months and that's why it would be different than the wind turbines which would have a more steady demand being a more all season product. b) After changing the smoothing parameter I have found that the lower MAD in month 24 is at .1, meaning the forecast would be more receptive to the seasons changing which shows less error. 3. Changing the Alpha to see the results of MAD in the exponential smoothing model I found that 0.8 worked the best. It lowered the MAD to 3.32 for month 24, this is telling me that the larger the smoothing parameter the better the forecast is trending with demand. The demand has a long range of trend...

Aftermath Hurricane Katrina

...Hurricane Katrina: What It Was and the Aftermath Hurricanes, also known as tropical cyclones, are some of the deadliest and costliest natural disasters that affect the United States. They are severe tropical storms that form along the southern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and in the eastern Pacific Ocean. After the hit, they trigger thunderstorms within an area. Within the Northern Hemisphere, they have winds that go counterclockwise near earth’s surface. Hurricanes occur most frequently within the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts. Typical hurricane season for the Atlantic coast is between June to November. However, the deadliest months are between August to October. Whereas, the Eastern Pacific season starts in May and...

...same time changes in composition through a certain chemical process to form residual materials. This is called chemical weathering. There are three very common chemical processes involved with chemical weathering. First is dissolution which occurs when water such as rain reacts with minerals and dissolving the rock changing its chemical composition. Oxidation is another process wherein oxygen reacts with the minerals in a rock, specifically iron, to form rust. This is why we sometimes see red-colored rocks. Hydrolysis takes effect when water reacts with Feldspar, the most common mineral in rocks, and forms another product, usually clay, that can be easily dissolved later on. Mechanical weathering Mechanical weathering happens when rocks disintegrate or breaks down into smaller pieces through physical forces which could be any of the following: exfoliation, abrasion and freeze and thaw weathering. Exfoliation happens when rock sheds off sheets of it along the sheet joints that form by applying pressure on the rock through natural causes such as tectonic activities. Abrasion occurs when rock surface weathers and removes layers of it through friction. The strong wind that constantly rubs on the rock’s surface eventually breaks it down causing it to reduce in size. In cold places where temperatures reach below zero degrees, water that...

Frequency Response

...Abstract There is a growing importance for the studies of frequency stability and control of power system with increasing levels of wind power penetration, especially in United States with a goal of 20% or more by 2030. The increasing penetration of wind in to existing synchronous based generation capacity requires the modifications in the procedures of grid frequency control as wind turbine units fail to provide inertial support and primary control reserves during the initial and later stages of frequency events respectively. Therefore, it is necessary for the wind turbines to emulate the response of current synchronous based generation capacity so as to make the power system reliable. This type of response can be introduced by control schemes developed. This report provides a literature review of the frequency control basics and controller schemes used. And also it provides an overview of the basic concepts related to the effects of wind generation on frequency behavior of the power system network. Introduction Frequency stability and control very much dependent on active power balancing is a major research topic concerned with grid integration of large wind farms. The instability of frequency occurs when power system fails to maintain it within particular limits under normal conditions. Active power imbalance indicates the variations in frequency and consequently the constancy of frequency represents the quality of power supply. Such an imbalance can be due...

Dustbowl

...of the 1930s, the soil turned to dust because there was not any natural deep rooted grass to keep it in place. Once the soil was turned to dust the wind carried it eastward and southward in large dark clouds, which blackened the sky. The dark black cloud would reach cities on the East Coast, such as New York and Washington, D.C. The Atlantic Ocean was the final spot where most of the soil ended up deposited in the Atlantic Ocean, carried by strong winds which were created by the dry and bare soil conditions. These terrible dust storms which terrorized many people changing their lives were given names such as "black blizzards" and "black rollers" and they often reduced visibility to just a few feet. The Dust Bowl affected millions of acres of land changing many people lives, causing many to relocate, and other to try to survive, it was possibly the greatest natural disaster of its times. “The Dust Bowl got it name after Black Sunday, April 14, 1935. More and more dust storms had blown up in years leading to that day. In 1932, 14 dust storms were recorded on the Plains. In 1933, there were 38 storms. By 1943, it was estimated that 100 mill acres of farmland had lost all or most of the topsoil to the wind. By April 1935, there had been weeks of dust storms, but the cloud that appeared on the horizon that Sunday was the worst. Winds were clocked at 60 mph.” (Ganzel, www.livinghistoryfarm.org,“Farming in the 1930”). Many were left homeless while others homes had to be torn down...

Hurricane Eye Wall Research Paper

...The eye is the very core of a hurricane. It is the most peaceful place in a hurricane, due to clear conditions with wind speeds of below fifteen miles per hour. The eye of the storm is normally twenty to forty miles wide; but, they have been known to be less than a few miles across and much larger than forty miles across. The eye doesn’t normally develop up until winds have gotten to hurricane strength, and so is a fair sign of a powerful storm. Next is the eye wall. This part of the hurricane goes around the eye. The most powerful wind and most substantial rain is found in the interior of the eye wall, making it the most perilous part of the storm. This section is mostly constructed of thick convective thunderstorms, which completely surround...

Hum 114

...Many people are debating how to best meet energy needs in the United States. Some argue that the country must decrease its dependence on oil and invest in alternative sources of energy, such as wind and solar power. Others argue that changing to new power sources is unnecessary and expensive. They state that the United States should search for oil in Alaska, the Gulf Coast, and other areas within the country that are currently not being explored. I believe that the United States should invest money into alternate fueling sources. Off shore drilling at this point is environmentally unsafe. Our environment is changing due to global warming, and off shore drilling makes this worse. I feel very strongly about greedy oil companies destroying the planet in pursuit of more oil at the cost of our endangered species and the health of the American people. Oil companies already hold 5,500 offshore leases that are not being used. I do not know why they need to occupy more space, when they can use what the government has allowed them to use. Now, I do agree changing to solar and wind powered fuel sources will require research and additional funding, however those fuel sources are more eco friendly and in the long run may leave the world in a better position. I must admit, sometimes I fall in to a mindset that is commonly known as stereotyping. As explained in this book “The Art of Thinking”, by Vincent Ryan Ruggiero, chapter 3,...

What Is Climate Change

...What is climate change? The Earth's climate has changed over the last century. Increases in average temperatures have been seen around the globe and there is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed in the last 50 years is due to human activities. While climate change is a global issue, it will affect us all. Climate change has the potential to adversely affect our environment, our communities and our economy unless we take action now to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts. Climate change will alter global and local climates. In Victoria, this means a warmer and drier future, with an increasing likelihood of more extreme events such as heatwaves, bushfires and storm surges. Climate change is the greatest threat facing our planet today. A warming planet alters weather patterns, water supplies, seasonal growth for plants and a sustainable way of life for us and the world’s wildlife. Climate change has already started, but it’s not too late to take action. There’s still time for us all to be part of the solution. A continuous flow of energy from the sun heats the Earth. Naturally occurring gases in the atmosphere, known as greenhouse gases – this includes carbon dioxide (CO2) - , trap this heat like a blanket, keeping the Earth at an average of 15 degrees Celsius – warm enough to sustain life. The overuse of fossil fuels is increasing CO2 in the atmosphere, trapping more and more heat and warming the Earth.   As a result, we’re...

Market Trends

...Market Trends Technology is always changing. In everything we use be it computers, cars, or everyday uses, technology will be changed to make our lives better. Technology in cars for example first came out to allow us to get somewhere quickly and safely. Today cars are much more different and they have more technology in the cars to help with travel and making more comfortable while you are traveling. People as of late are upset because they have to pay more for gas to get from home to work or anywhere they have to travel to. We have heard from many potential customers that they are upset that when they buy gas for the month is the same as an actual car payment. Now because technology in cars has been changing, this has given rise to the hybrid and electric cars. The hybrid cars are a mix of gasoline and electric. While driving under forty miles per hour, the car will run on electricity. Anything over that will be run by gasoline. Hybrid is a good one but you still have filled a tank with some gasoline. Cars now are getting better mileage than they were many years ago. In the USA, hybrid car sales has been encouraged by state emission laws, green-tech-trendiness and by the fact that hybrids were seen to offer better MPG (miles per gallon) than standard gas-powered cars. (Bhunnoo, M.) Now to the electric cars, they have been out for a long time but people don’t use them because their batteries didn’t last as long. There is also the flex fuel which allows choosing either...

Renewable and Inexhastible Energy Sources

...and Inexhaustible Energy Sources: Wind Power For over two thousand years, mankind has harnessed the wind for power in one way or another. The first uses were for water travel, by letting manufactured sails catch the wind and allow the boats or vessels to travel seamlessly across the water. Eventually, it was realized that the wind all around the world will not run out, it is a semi-constant force. Therefore, wind started to be used to power other things; mainly for farms and small workshops, wind power was harnessed using the old-fashioned windmill. They were primarily used to pump water from wells, and some to grind grains down to a fine consistency. Today, there are many other uses for wind power. As an ever-growing society, we have realized that the resources we rely on day to day will not always be around, i.e. oil, so we have harnessed wind power to our advantage, because like our early ancestors also realized, the forces of wind will never be depleted. With the widespread development of electric power in the early 20th century, wind power found new applications in sending power remotely from a centrally-generated power source. Throughout the century, small wind plants suitable for farms or residences were soon built, and also larger utility-scale wind generators were produced so they could be connected to electricity grids for a greater remote use of power. Out here in West Texas, we rely heavily on wind powers because the wind is an abundant force of nature to us...
