Channing Tatum

Channing Matthew Tatum was born on April 26th, 1980 in Cullman, Alabama. He is the oldest of eight children. Channing spent his childhood going between his town and Mississippi to spend summers with his grandparents (imdb.com). He grew up playing football all his life. By the time he was in ninth grade he was sent to a military boarding school. He became actively involved in football. Channing even earned an athletic scholarship to continue with his sports skill in West Virginia at Glenville State College (channingtatumunwrapped.com). Although Channing thought he had his life planned out playing football, he was wrong. I chose Channing Tatum because he’s a great actor and good role model. Playing football and the routine he had to carry out in order to maintain his scholarship just wasn’t for him (imdb.com). He made a decision to leave all he had achieved behind and start a new chapter in his life. Channing always had a passion for dancing. He started to focus on that. Channing Tatum surprisingly passed the audition looking for a back up dancer for the music video “She Bangs” by Ricky Martin (imdb.com). This led him to earn a job as a choreographer in Miami. He then met a model that introduced him to some modeling agencies. Channing didn’t really see a career in modeling, but after a few shoots he began to like it. This opened so many great opportunities for Channing. He later joined Major Models in New York City. His modeling was a success. He would appear in different magazines, fashion shows, and commercials. This now brought him to get more attention from the public. With his career becoming more successful, he crossed over to acting. Channing made his way to land his first performance in an episode of “CSI Miami” in the year of 2002. In 2004 he moved on to the big screen production to film “Coach Carter”. This movie grossed over 67 million dollars (imbd.com). As the years moved on, Channing Tatum became more successful and started to star in movies such as “She’s The Man”, “Step Up”, “Dear Jon”, “The Vow”, and so much more. I chose this actor because he has an interesting story and he’s a great actor. The public thinks that Channing Tatum is the “Sexiest Man Alive” according to People Magazine. Everybody loves and adores this charming actor. Although Channing Tatum didn’t make it as a football player, he became very successful in life doing what he loves. He has millions of fans supporting him and what he does. Channing lives a successful life with his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum with their daughter born 2013 in London, England. Channing Tatum will always be known for his great acting, film production, dancing, and modeling.

How to Get Out of a Bad Date

...to be careful when you meet someone online and then see each other in real life because not everything seems like his profile picture or his bio. But we are very stubborn woman and we always learn the hard way. Well that was what happened to me and it starts with when we both agreed to finally meet. The day when I met him in person I seriously needed to reevaluate everything and say, “On second thought, I’m not really into online dating anymore”. Before my eyes was a man about four feet seven, and I am a five feet eight female, the irony is real. I surely couldn’t tell him in the face that he was a lying, ugly, and old man when it clearly said in his bio he was 24, and I am 21 YEAR OLD! In his profile picture he had a resemblance of Channing Tatum, but here in front of me he resembles papa smurf. I’m no model but I have to admit, I am easy on the eyes, with my blonde silky hair, and charming personality, but enough about me and my gracious good looks. He then motions for me to go inside the restaurant we are meeting at, which is McDonalds by the way, and of course he picked it. And the creepiest part, he couldn’t stop staring at me, and he had some sort of allergies which had him sneezing every five minutes, and I couldn’t eat my cheeseburger in peace. He kept saying jokes that were old as his soul and I kept awkwardly chuckling. That was it, I needed to figure out my game plan, my list of excuses, and a well thought out exit on how to get out of this bad...

Gender Representation

... Male representation in the film trailer is shown as iconic, money obsessed drug using, sex fanatics. The film trailer portrays men as money obsessed by repeatedly showing scenes with money whether it being strapped to a hooker or thrown off a boat. The use of money symbolises power in the film and presents what money can do to change a person’s life. In the trailer the men make reckless decisions and act abnormally. This is shown in the film trailer by the quick scenes and fast action shots. The speed of the different shots symbolises the frantic life the characters have. Another media text I analysed was the GQ magazine cover featuring Channing Tatum for December 2012. Throughout many GQ covers I explored it was clear that GQ magazine present men with an appealing body image showing them have a good sense of style. In this issue Tatum is presented as very stylish and formal through the clothes he is wearing. The smart modern suit and buttoned up blazer symbolises...

Battle in Seattle Thoughts and Response

...While I was watching Battle in Seattle I had many mixed emotions and responses for the movie. I understand that the WTO might not be the friendliest to the environment or to our economy either but the movie reflected the WTO as a killing machine, there are some positives (promotes free-er trade, raises world out-put levels via specialisation, establishes a standard rule by law and terms of trade for greater efficiency, and updates all participating countries and banks to international standards and efficiency in terms of trade and commerce) , then again the movie’s producers were biased. I also feel like the movie showed people what they wanted to see rather than what happened. This movie me curious to research what had happened in Seattle . On November 30, 1999 protesters lined up all over the main streets of Seattle to block the World Trade Organization from having a meeting at the Washington State Convention. They had planned a nonviolent protest against the WTO. They sought nonviolent training “which was a three hour course that combined the history and philosophy of non violence with real life practice through role plays in staying calm in tense situations, using nonviolent tactics, responding to brutality, and making decisions together” (How We Really Shut Down the WTO, Starhawk.). According to the article the police weren’t prepared for nonviolence. They were completely foreign to the thought of a nonviolent protest. I understand as to why they were not prepared for...

Texting vs. Calling

...Darren Teamer ENGL 1301 Jason English 19 November 2012 Arguing Vs. Fighting Sometimes we tend to come to disagreements with one another about things we believe in or feel strongly about, and these differences could result in an argument or a fight. Arguing is a discussion of opposing point of views normally striving to persuade or prove a point and fighting is an intentional act of violence (throwing physical blows or use of weapons) to harm the opposition. In this essay I will distinguish between the characteristics of an argument and a fight that demonstrate the effectiveness that both choices could have on the outcome of the specific situation. An argument is a verbal conversation, a fight of words. In an argument the individual would usually state claims or reasons to why their opinion is correct or superior to that of their antagonist. Discussing each others’ disagreements in a calm and orderly fashion could resolve the matter, however all arguments don’t end in this way. Some arguments can become less effective when those involved start yelling, cutting each other’s sentences short with interruption, and even becoming disrespectful with one another at times. This method of arguing is more ineffective because the communication being made between the individuals is unclear. Fighting is an actual physical altercation. In a fight both parties have had an issue of some sort in the past and one or both individuals figured the best way to resolve the issue would be to...

Art Tatum Holy Toledo

...Waller was a magnificent pianist. A true jazz great. Wherever he played people would come from miles around to see him. So when one night Art Tatum wlked in the club where Fats was playing, and Fats responded to his presence by saying "God is in the house tonight" it meant something. Art Tatum was not just great, he was transcendent. Praise for Art Tatum abounds. In 'Art Tatum ; The Art Of Jazz Piano' (3)Les Paul struggles to express his awe..." I can take a piano roll, and slow it down... real slow, and then you still can't figure out how he did it!" Raised right here in Toledo, Art became an undeniable Jazz legend. As his prowess was unleashed upon the planet people walked away from the piano and chose different instruments with which to express themselves. Many of these same artists exhibited greatness in their own right. But not on the piano, not after hearing Art. Jazz is an American Art form. We ought to have pride in it. Art is a hometown hero. We ought to have pride in him. Well, he was from Toledo and so am I, so I thought I'ld go have a look at the historic landmark where Art spent the bulk of his childhood. Take some pictures and just sort of soak in the vibe. I could not have been more dissapointed. Mrs. Ernistine Allen, a neighbor of the Tatums', has said "this was a respectable, middle- class neighborhood at the time," and that "Considering the times, they lived well- they had a very...

...90 killed in Kolkata AMRI Fire Mishap KOLKATA, 9th December: At least 90 people were killed in a fire that ravaged a hospital here in the early hours of Friday. Most of the victims choked to death on the upper floors, even as the toxic smoke engulfed the building. The fire broke out around 3 a.m. in the basement of the seven-storey building of the Advanced Medical Research Institute (AMRI) Hospitals at Dhakuria. Soon the smoke swept through to the top, threatening the lives of the 164 in-patients. Amid frantic cries for help, some youths from the nearby locality joined in the rescue, pulling out those still alive, long before firefighters reached the spot. The death toll would have been less had the hospital authorities allowed them in to evacuate the patients earlier, the locals claimed. “Most of the victims died of suffocation. The building is centrally air-conditioned, and there was no ventilation channel for the smoke to come out,” a Fire officer said, even as desperate firefighters smashed the glass windows to let the fumes out. The basement where the fire started housed a pharmacy, a central storeroom and the biomedical department, all containing inflammable articles, he said. Two nurses of the female general ward, from Kerala, saved eight of the nine patients in the ward, but the valiant ones perished in the heat and smoke. Some relatives of the patients broke down as news of the death of their loved ones came in, while the rest frantically searched for their kin, scanning...

Jazz Piano History

...What is Jazz? Some people will tell you that jazz is a style of music that originated from African-Americans here in America and was adopted by white people over the years. Other people will tell you that jazz is the heart and soul of Blues music and a spinoff of Ragtime and a way of loosely expressing yourself through music. Both of these interpretations are correct, but by dictionary definition, jazz is music originating from New Orleans around the beginning of the 20th century and subsequently developing through the various increasingly complex styles, generally marked by intricate, propulsive rhythms, polyphonic ensemble playing, improvisatory, virtuosic solos, melodic freedom, and a harmonic idiom ranging from simple diatonicism through chromaticism to atonality. Jazz music is all of this and yet so much more. In order to play jazz, you have to take something and tweak it to make it your own. The biggest difference between jazz piano and regular classic piano is simply the style in which you play it. With classic piano, you stick to the rhythms and notes that are written on the pages. The music goes almost perfectly with the score and there is no room for relaxation between notes. With jazz piano however, you move with the music. Within the rhythms, you get to swing to your own style. Jazz piano is much more lose and free. Also with jazz, a lot of the times, you improvise the music meaning that it’s not written down and the player comes up with the notes and...

Complexity of Identity

...This article was written by Beverly Daniel Tatum and is titled “The Complexity of Identity”. This article was written for the purpose of trying to get the reader to understand what we are dealing in the world today in terms of one’s identity. The article goes into detail on the meaning of identity, and what it means to a person. Identity is very important because it is who you are and why you are the way you are. There is also a lot of time invested in identity because it could take a person a lifetime to realize his identity and how to cope with it. The article states that identity is very complex and it is shaped by different dynamics. As I said finding one’s self and their identity takes time and this is done by continued reflection and observation. Identity can also be a defect to you because someone might judge you because of race, age, sexuality etc. An example of finding one’s self would be the story of Rachel Dolezal who is an American civil rights activist and who was a former teacher of Africana Studies. Rachel identifies herself as black, but allegations came up this summer when her white parents said that she was fake, and she is disguising herself as a black woman she's really not. Although Rachel denied this and said that her father is black, her parents showed the media a picture of a young blond-haired blue-eyed Rachel and also showed a copy of Rachel's birth certificate. This is what happens when someone is still figuring themselves out. Now I don’t know...

...Write Experience - Conflict The subject of this report is the conflict that could be created in teams. No matter which team or which employee, the conflict could appear everywhere. "The difficulties should lead to action, not discourage. The spirit of man will be strengthened by the conflict. " (William Ellery Channing). I will start my writing by giving you the outline of it. First of all, I will remind you quickly some definitions about the conflict and then, I will explain how you can increase functional conflict instead of increase dysfunctional conflict. To support these explanations, I will give you different examples and supports. First of all, I will give you some definitions to have a clear idea about what we are talking about: C-type conflict, or cognitive conflict is a disagreement that focuses on problem-related differences of opinion. A-type conflict, or affective conflict refers to the emotional reactions that can occur when disagreements become personal rather than professional. With cognitive conflict, team members disagree because their different experiences and expertise lead them to different views of the problem and solutions. Indeed, managers who participated on teams that emphasized cognitive conflict described their teammates as "smart", "team players", and "best in the business". By contrast, affective conflict often results in hostility, anger, resentment, distrust, cynicism and apathy. Managers who...

Body Image

...Kirk S. Pineda Dr. Mace English 201 May 4th, 2015 Body Image The idea and concept of body image is a topic that is continuously reviewed as to what is acceptable, what is attractive, and what is abhorrent. In the article “Kate Winslet, Please Save Us” by Terrence Rafferty, Rafferty discusses how his own views of proper body image is not congruent with the standards that appear on movie screens. From voluptuous, fuller figured women to the bare-boned, almost-anorexic women, the image of beauty when it comes to women—and men, too—is of fickle nature. While many celebrities and people do their best to capture it, I find that the idea of body image is the media’s legal, yet cruel way of taking control of the public. In Laura Fraser’s article, “The Inner Corset: A Brief History of Fat in the U.S.,” Fraser discusses the changing standards of beauty since the 1800s to the postmodern age. As Fraser and Rafferty describe, it is clear that the change in bodies that are acceptable is frequent and drastically changes with time. However, in the past it seems as though fuller, heavier figures were more sought after due to the belief that with more weight you carried, the more food you had. And the more food one had, the richer one had to be. Although once the years at carried forward and food became more plentiful and thus, cheaper, being overweight was seen as a lack of self-control. In the array of pictures on Blackboard I have come to see that women like Marilyn Monroe to Diana...

...wants his mother’s approval or is intentionally trying to give her nightmares. Also embedded everywhere is du Pont’s fear of women. Whenever his mother enters a room, du Pont watches from afar, making sure a barrier is always between them. Of course we could argue that he just wants her admiration, but it doesn’t seem like he is trying too hard and makes it clear that he thinks his mother’s passions are stupid. Perhaps it’s just backlash after being rejected for his own by her, but all I see is du Pont ridiculing her and keeping an odd distance whenever she is around. The only other woman in the film is Nancy Schultz ( Sienna Miller) who is not interested in du Pont, his money, success, or plans for the Foxcather team. Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his sister-in-law even get into an argument regarding her aloof behavior towards du Pont, who ends up leaving the room once Nancy says a meek hello from the hotel bed and turns her attention elsewhere. Although du Pont never says anything negative or degrading about Nancy, he ignores the fact that David Schultz ( Mark Ruffalo) won’t be joining the team because he does not want to uproot his wife and family. And Nancy may disregard du Pont, but he does the exact same to her because in his world women are an untouchable, jeopardizing part of life. In fact, he acts the same towards Nancy as he does with his own mother: keeps distance and often ends walking away or watching from across the scene. Why do you think there are so few women...

Masculinity Issues

...physical appearance, for their masculinity, and whether or not they choose to keep up with the current fashion trends. The physical appearance of a man is judged on so many things. Allow me to name just a few of the main aspects of a man’s appearance that are criticized. Our height is a big problem. Society tells guys that if they are not 5’10” or taller that they are short. This leads to people of shorter statures longing to be taller or hoping that their natural physique will be enough to woo the person they are trying to court. The physique, or build, of a male is also under constant scrutiny by the public eye. Males are told nonstop that they should have perfectly toned arms and legs, perfect washboard abs, and should be a copy of Channing Tatum. Guys are also told that their facial features should be chiseled form stone and sharp. According to society, all of these combined can contribute to how masculine of man is. The masculinity of the male gender is constantly changing in definition. However, the basis can be anything from our physical appearance to how we act. Generally, if a guy is strong he is seen to be more masculine than other men are. The same generalization can be made for men who have full beards and facial hair. However, facial hair has a bit of a catch associated with it making it a complicated matter. If a guy is clean-shaven, but has sharp facial features, he may be seen as professionally masculine. If a man has a neatly trimmed beard and moustache, he may...
