Throughout this class we have learned quite a bit about project management and how it relates to our lives and more specifically in my life the ability to run a golf tournament. In this paper we will take a closer look: at the importance of project management, the project life-cycle which includes the research and critical thinking, the importance of leadership and sponsorship, team building, the work breakdown structure, and the need for project management software. My project that we have covered the entire semester is based around two specific golf tournaments that my university has hosted. The first which was basically a preview to the conference finals on April 10th and the second is actual event itself. The timing of this class is perfect because I felt the first event in November was not a very great representation of my management skills and hopefully the skills learned in this class should make for a much better event in April. The definition of project management to me is simply creating a plan and applying the skills and knowledge to meet the clients (Universities and their golfers) requirements by creating a project scope document that will list goals and their deadlines. In the business world, “Project management as a discipline has evolved over time into a somewhat codified set of principles, practices, and tools that focus on a specific result”. (Rose 2007, p. 93) In my project the goals are based around putting on a successful event in which the teams in our conference are able to play a fair golf course, enjoy nice banquet dinner, and of course have fun.
