Banyagang Pag aaral Sa Tesis ni Frank Pogue, sinaad dito ang “He said that a student should make sure that he/she has a good study environment, a good desk, a sturdy chair, good light, comfortable room temperature and a quiet atmosphere.”

Chapter Ii in Study Habits

...CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE The review of related literature of this study identifies how fear and interest, together with the students’ study habits can affect their performance in various subject matters, specifically, mathematics. To begin this chapter, the researchers will define the variables involved in the study, namely, fear and its types, interest, study habits and mathematics. The researchers will also examine other research studies and articles that show how these variables are related. This chapter ends with the summary of literature review. Mathematics as defined yourdictionary.com, is ”the group of sciences (including arithmetic, geometry, algebra, calculus, etc. dealing with quantities, magnitudes, and forms and their relationships, attributes, etc., by the use of numbers and symbols.” Ernest (1989) mentioned that learning mathematics involves more than basic knowledge of facts, skills and procedures. He added that it has a crucial involvement of conceptual structures, the general strategies in solving problems, attitudes towards the subject and appreciation of mathematics. According to the latest Gallup youth survey conducted in 2004 (as cited by Saad, 2005), the subject that the teenagers find most difficult in school is mathematics. Thus, Saad(2005) said that it is not surprising how the subject has the lowest performance rate. The reasons were not mentioned, however, Stites (1993) said that......

Effective study skills are associated with positive out comes across multiple academic content areas and for diverse learners. The purpose of this article is to describe an information-processing perspective on the contribution of study skills to academic competence, and to identify evidence-based strategies that are effective in helping students to improve their study skills. Study habit, skill, and attitude inventories and constructs were found to rival standardized tests and previous grades as predictors of academic performance, yielding substantial incremental validity in predicting academic performance. We found that study skill inventories and constructs are largely independent of both high school grades and scores on standardized admissions tests but moderately related to various personality constructs; these results are inconsistent with previous theories. Study motivation and study skills exhibit the strongest relationships with both grade point average and grades in individual classes. Academic specific anxiety was found to be an important negative predictor of performance. In addition, significant variation in the validity of specific inventories is shown. Scores on traditional study habit and attitude inventories are the most predictive of......

...learner. Since the Philippines is gearing up toward the K to 12 program, much preparation is needed. According to Fairhurst and Fairhurst (1995), many teachers are familiar with other learning theories. One theory describes learners as auditory, visual or kinaesthetic. Howard Gardner (1983), describes learners as verbal/linguistic, logical/mathematical, spatial, musical interpersonal and intrapersonal. These theories are valuable in helping teachers recognize and respond to differences in learning styles. However, like most available learning theories, these theories focus primarily on the student’s learning process without taking into account the needs and skill of the teacher. ...The first Study Habits Inventory (SHI) was prepared in 1933 by Wrenn, with a view to survey this feature among students. In 1935 research workers interested in the improvement of study habits, they paid attention to the discovery of effective study techniques and tried to improve study skills and habits of work through ‘how to study’ courses and other systematic procedures. Cuff (1937) carefully derived study-habits inventory and found that it aids in finding the pupils in need of special guidance and helps to identify remedial work for the good and bad study habits of individual cases. Brown and Holtzman (1955) constructed a questionnaire to survey students ‘study habits', as well as their attitudes and motivation towards academic work. Items were compiled from group interviews with good and poor students, existing inventories on study habits, studies using observational and interview techniques and reports on related experiments in the field of learning. Scoring keys based on validity studies in ten colleges were developed. Study habits basically consist of effective methods of study (Sorenson, 1954). Study is the total of all the habits, determined purposes and enforced practices that the individual uses in order to learn. Study is hard work, no easy substitute is available (Armstrong, 1956), Brown and Holtzman (1956) and Srivastava (1967) point out that for good academic success, good study habits and attitudes are important. Some reports stress that certain personality......

...details.) 1. Chapter 1: Section 1.4 – Before you go on… What are the major reasons why it is important for employees in all functional areas to become familiar with IT? IT systems are integral to every function area of an organization, especially because organizations cannot operate without information technology. This is a huge reason why every manager and professional staff member should learn about IT within his or her specialized field. (21) 2. IT architecture is a high-level map or plan of the information assets in an organization, while IT infrastructure is the physical facilities, IT components, IT services, and IT personnel that support the organization. BOHOL ISLAND STATE UNIVERSITY CANDIJAY CAMPUS Cogtong, Candijay, Bohol March 2012 CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE INTRODUCTION Students are facing with many issues in their lives, and because of the competing things for your attention, it’s hard to concentrate on studying. Studying can seem very boring when compared to any other exciting activity. You may even prefer doing non-sense things rather than to study your lessons. Too many people treat studying as the thing to do when you get around to it or have some spare time, too many people look at studying as necessary task, not an enjoyment or an opportunity to learn.( Grohol, 2006 ) Studying is important in our lives, especially to the lives of the students. Each student as unique individual has different abilities, approaches, ways of thinking, interests and ways of studying the lessons. These individual differences have significant influences on ones learning style and acquisition. Each student has different methods and ways of studying and these methods are sometimes helpful but some are not as effective as the others. (Oppapers, 2010) One reason we often don’t start studying until last possible minute is that we have misjudged how long it will actually take as to absorb and understand the material we are studying. If you are a student......

...comes along with really knowing your subject matter. At the same time, though, there are many temptations when one sits down for study regardless if one is a high school or college student.(Sarah Donaghy, 2006) Study habit is a technique or a strategy used every time a person is studying. Some students would have the same study habit or may have a different one. Based on the researchers’ point of view, it depends on whether a specific study habit is effective for them. Students may use different kinds of techniques. For example, a student may study better when he/she is alone and without any distractions while some may study better if with group or if with some music. Others would learn better visually or auditory etc. These techniques or strategies may help to have an effective learning and studying. Beginning college is an exciting step toward a brighter future. Most teenagers expect it to be an exciting and fun adventure in their life, but worry about how to keep up with all those homework assignments. There are simple ways to keep up with studying and homework, but it takes dedication. It’s not really hard to keep up your grades, but you have to dedicate yourself to school and worry less about working full-time and partying. (Virginia Graces, 2008) The researchers became interested about this topic which talks about the different study habits of third year HRM students at DLSUD today. Since the researchers are part of this generation, they wanted to have better......
