Case Study Step 1: Uhe’s employees having a high moral can lead to a downside. People that are fully satisfied have no need to improve, they are happy with mediocrity. What the owners should do to prevent this stagnation is to continuously set difficult goals. By doing so the employees will strive to complete these goals and reward their completion. This will not only allow your company to continuously improve, but it will allow your employees to feel more fulfilled at their jobs. Theory X is a good way to qualify these employees right now. However, they are only categorized by that because of the way management has motivated them. Without any incentive it’s easy to be lazy or lack ambition because you have no reason to do otherwise. Theory Y only works when people have ambitious goals to achieve and have incentive for doing such. Setting constant challenging goals will allow the theory Y employee’s to shine. Yet, this may not be the case for every employee at the company. Proper motivation will only showcase the Theory Y people and expose the Theory X people. Uhe’s owners should employ the various motivation factors that can reduce the importance of hygiene factors. This means that with the goals they set give them a set bonus for achieve said goal. Not only give them the bonuses but make a leader board to showcase the employees that consistently excel. Then if certain people met their goals, then throw a company party where you pay for food and drink to reward them. These types of changes will cut down on your expenses for bonuses. Unless all your employees earn their bonuses in which case it should be a win. Also people doing well have to worry less about losing their jobs so their job security will be another hygiene factor eliminated. The expectancy theory makes a lot of sense in this case. By cutting base salaries and increasing...

Case Study - Forest Hill - Chapter 5 Abc - Fall 2014(1)

...Accounting 3411 Case Study #1: Forest Hill Paper Company By Thomas L. Albright Forest Hill Paper Company (FHPC) is a closely-held paperboard manufacturer that has been struggling with a number of strategic issues facing a capital-intensive, mature industry. Their product costing system was inadequate to provide management with relevant information for decision making. Therefore, the board of directors has approved your consulting company’s proposal to conduct a cost system pilot study. Besides showing an analysis of FHPC’s product cost, your report to the board of directors is to include strategic recommendations based on your findings. INSTRUCTOR NOTE: I recommend viewing the following video before reading the rest of the case study. In the following paragraphs, there is company specific terminology that may make the case seem more difficult than it is if you don’t have some background information (and a visual of what is being described) for this type of company. The following video is not of Forest Hill Paper Company; however, it describes and shows the production environment of a similar company, Clearwater Paper Corporation: http://youtu.be/3t4jSVXjutI Background: Product and Process Description Forest Hill Paper Company (FHPC) produces an extensive line of paperboard in large reels, termed parent rolls. These parent rolls are sold to converters who further process them into containers used for a diverse line of consumer products. The owners of FHPC have long pursued......

...organizations that, some institutions collapse due such leadership that take a different course. There are a number of strategies of achieving coordination of different divisions. For instance in a factory, the production processes are divided into various simpler operations. In these operations, there are workers who have been assigned to take care of them. The management then supervises the divisions in order to coordinate the whole system. In overseeing the operations, it can give instructions which are followed by both divisions. Such mode of operation is known as the industrial division of labor (Boyes & Melvin, 2012). More often than not, division of labor is only known to exist within one organization or company. That is not the case because it can exist between different companies, factories or organizations. It also exists between different workers for example between a doctor...
