As long I can remember, I’ve had this need to draw. As a little girl, I processed my world through drawing. This was also how I expressed myself. I soon realized that I wasn’t like the other children in my class. My Christmas ornament was not a perfect star or tree. Instead, I created a candy cane patterned snake that my teacher banished to the back of the tree, until my mother promptly moved it to where all could see. I dreaded coloring books, and would put one or two streaks of color on the page just to satisfy my teachers. What I wanted was blank paper. It didn’t matter if it were the back of a diner menu, an envelope, or my grandmother’s small memo book, I couldn’t stop sketching and creating characters, and still can’t. Charles Schulz,
