Chef Michel Richard In March of 1948 in Brittany, France the world received another gift to the culinary world, Chef Michel Richard was born. Raised in the Champagne region Chef Richard learned to cook at only seven years old. He was told at a young age that if he wanted to become a Chef he would need to learn to be a pastry chef first. Continuing his impressive early career he became an apprentice baker in a hotel located in Reims. Chef Richard then served in the French Army, which meant he probably did not see combat, before separating and pursuing his desire to become a chef further. Considered to be the pioneer for French food in America. He began earning his name in 1974 when he moved to America to open a Manhattan location with his …show more content…
He came up with his idea for the dessert when he was in New York and was short on money. He visited a Kentucky Fried Chicken and fell in love with the crispy, crunchy breading. This inspired him to add a crunchy component to every dish he makes. Utilizing his underwhelming budget and desire to make something different he combined chocolate and hazelnut then added potato chips for crunch. After trying, and enjoying, this combo he began working on his dessert and now serves it at every restaurant he owns. (Michel Richard. (n.d.).) In an interview with Food and Wine magazine Chef Richard was asked what cooking technique every chef should know. Unlike most Chefs who suggest braising, stewing, frying, or other traditional method of cooking Chef Richard suggested everyone should know how to use the microwave and mentioned he uses it for making béchamel and other dishes for his restaurant.
Despite many successful restaurants and cook books Chef Richard remains humble and constantly strives to learn. He has no plans of slowing down and wants to continue to grow his restaurant empire and inspire new ways of cooking. With plans in mind for his next restaurant already in the works Chef Richard shows that even with simple cuisine you can become successful if you love what you

Kudler Fine Foods continues to manifest growth based on Mrs. Kudler’s original vision of a one stop gourmet food store. Having direct control over hiring, ordering and customer service, she has built the company into an expanding entity. The following is a discussion of strategy implementation, technology and opportunities, strategic recommendations and external forces to be aware of. Most growing companies have used information technologies (IT) to enhance operations and improve customer service. Mrs. Kudler has plans to add to the inventory and ordering automation by introducing new e-commerce capabilities and an online catering link (Kudler Fine Foods Portal, Strategic Plan, pgs 15-16). Strategic Information Systems have the ability to amplify strengths into potential sustainable competitive advantage. For example, British Airways implemented customer service online and self checking at the airports. Though the restructuring effected employee morale due to job loss, the company increased in efficiency and cost leadership. Mrs. Kudler is known for her kindness and generosity to employees, so the company will only prosper with new IT applications. Two main approaches...

It’s Mum’s handwriting, and it’s a list – a very long list – of all the places we lived until I left home. I look at this list now, and there are just so many of them. My eye moves down the page, trying to take in her spidery scribble, and I soon lose track. These places mean very little to me: it’s funny how few of them I can remember. In some cases, I guess that’s because we were hardly there for more than five minutes. But in others, it’s probably more a case of trying to forget about them as soon as possible. When you’re unhappy in a place, you want to forget about it as soon as possible. You don’t dwell on the details of a house if you associate it with being afraid, or ashamed, or poor – and as a boy, I was often afraid and ashamed, and always poor. Life was a series of escapades, of moves that always ended badly. The next place was always going to be a better place – a...

Caribbean Festivals

...Caribbean Festivals at Home and Abroad Concept of Carnival/Festival Carnival brings about a "second world condition" so that when carnival comes around, another world is created and people go into that world. Notion of carnival as one of “the decentralising forces that militate against official power and ideology. Carnival as the interruption of dominant discourses “to surrender the critical and cultural tools to the dominant class and in this sense, carnival can be seen above all else as a site of urgency.” Mikhail Bakhtin in Rabelais and His World- Uses the term in reference to carnivals of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Bakhtin one of the key theorists on carnivals. Bakhtin-Carnivals allowed people mostly from the under class to rebel momentarily against social conventions and the class and financial hierarchies that structured society. Bakhtin- Carnival in medieval times offered a “second world and a second life.” Play, mockery, inversion, laughter and profanity all elements in Bakhtin's canival. Bakhtin-Carnival underlined is not a spectacle seen by the people; they live in it and everyone participate because its very idea embraces all the people...It has a universal spirit; it is a special condition of the entire world, of the world's revival and renewal in which all take part.” Bakhtin's views on Carnival have led to many theorists using Bakhtin's views to discuss carnival. Robert Stam- Carnivals can be politically ambiguous affairs that can be egalitarian and emancipatory...

...expectation. Servicescape later popularized by Bitner (1992), the physical environment surrounding customers & employees is termed servicescape. Ever since, this has been the subject of many scholars and practitioners. As an influential factor for customers to make purchasing decision, it clearly a very important subject for any marketers as an effort to increase revenue and to stay competitive in the marketplace (Hightower et al. 2000). Marketers from any type of industry can really integrate servicescape into marketing plans. The industry can be sport such as softball (Robinson 1997) (King 2000); hospitality such as nightclubs, hotels, restaurants (Jones et al. 2003) (Clarke et al. 1998) (Skinner et al. 2005); and many more. This paper tries to describe the importance of the main elements (i.e. ambient condition, spatial layout / functionality, signs / symbols / artefacts) (Bitner 1992). A few additional elements later developed that found can be influential to consumer behaviour are music (Jacob 2006), aesthetic design of virtual servicescape on the companies’ websites (Rafaeli & Vilnal-Yavetz 2006); the sex of service provider (Fischer et al. 1997)....

...Scarce skills Jobs are scarce. What plan can you make to secure a job in today’s world of work? The answer is to study for a scarce skill! What is a scarce skill? A scarce skill is a qualification or job for which there are too little people in South Africa doing the job. Government would like to set South Africa on a winning economic pathway, by developing the skills of our people and assisting people to find employment more easily. Studying for a scarce skill would not only mean helping your country, but also helping yourself! A scarcity in qualifications or jobs, can come from the fact that the occupation is new and very few people have studied to fill these posts. It can also happen that people have not chosen to study for the course and a scarcity developed in the job. Sometimes special experience is required, for example people with years of experience of management, or in other cases people are needed in certain towns, cities or geographical areas. Scarcity can also be in terms of equity, for example too few women enter into a specific career. 2 How can you benefit? Choose to study for a scarce skill. Not only will you be able to find a job more easily, but chances are that you will be paid better and progress to the top of your career path more easily, because employers will snap you up. Also, some qualifications are scarce all over the world, which means that opportunities open up for you much more easily. You can make an appointment with one of the Department’s careers...
