Chemical Peels and Cancer
Skin is the largest organ of the human body, covering virtually every inch of the body. As such, the skin is more susceptible to the occurrence of cancer in the body when compared to other parts of the body. That said, most people would rather remain ‘ugly’ or have blemishes on their skin surfaces than deal with the attendant risk of cancer that therapy may bring. Cancer, like other terminal illnesses is not only known for eating up the patient, it is also very expensive to treat and painful, often leading to death. Chemical peels are normally undertaken by most people to improve their skin condition and reduce the effects of ageing on the skin. However, research has discovered an additional benefit of chemical peel

Chemical Peels

...Chemical Peels Chemical peels are one of the least invasive ways to improve one’s appearance. Peels are a form of exfoliation that assists in cell turn over. Before the age of 30 cells turn over every 28 days. After the age of 30 it’s about 10 days every 10 years. Due to slow cell turn over after the age of 30 chemical peels could improve acne, acne scars, age and liver spots, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, and sun damaged skin. There are three different types of peels: superficial, the lowest level, medium depth, and deep peeling. Estheticians can only perform superficial peels anything that is more invasive has to e performed by a physician. So in the salons the parentage that can be applied is between 15 and 30 percent. These peels include Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, and 1 to 2 layers of a Jessner’s peel. All of these peels can be performed every two weeks. When performed they may tingle or feel a little hot and will most likely turn the skin pink. Contraindications to these peels include: allergies to aspirin or salicylic acids, pregnant or nursing, current use of topical or internal antibiotics, Accutane use within the last year, open cold sores, wounds, or other infections, cancer, and autoimmune disease. Any of these would make the client an unfit candidate for a superficial peel. The next level of chemical peels is the medium-depth, Trichlooaceticc Acid or TCA; a dermatologist or plastic surgeon should only perform these peels. TCA...

Vegetables and Fruits

...VEGETABLES AND FRUITS INTRODUCTION: High intakes of fruits and vegetables are protective against many forms of cancers. Vegetarians are less likely to contract cancer of the colon than meat eaters. A vegetarian diet is typically high in fibre, low in saturated fat and includes plenty of fruit and vegetables. Dietary fibre may help to protect against all the ‘Western’ cancers such as cancers of the colon, rectum, prostate, uterus and breast. We all know that fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and nuts are healthy. There are a number of studies that show that consuming more of these plant-based foods reduces the risk for a long list of chronic maladies (including coronary artery disease, obesity, diabetes, and many cancers). This is probable factor in increased longevity in the industrialized world. On average, we eat two fruits and vegetables and too much saturated fats of which meat and dairy are prime contributors. A predominantly vegetarian diet may have beneficial effects for kidney and nerve function in diabetics, as well as for weight loss. Eating more fruits and vegetables can slow, and perhaps reverse, age-related declines in brain function and in cognitive and motor performance at least in rats. However, low protein diets associated with vegetarians, reduce calcium absorption and have a negative impact on skeletal health. Vegetarians’ avoidance of meat, eggs and dairy products can lead to deficiencies in iron, calcium and Vitamin B12. Infants who are breast-fed...

Skin Is Not Skin

...Eboni Goodrich Research Paper 1 Project 3; (400 hours) February 17th, 2014 Tennessee Academy of Cosmetology Michele Byers didn't have any skin problems. She just wanted to do something nice for herself as she approached her 50th birthday. Byers went to an at-home esthetician for microdermabrasion, a nonsurgical procedure that polishes away dead skin. After a session, bumps started to appear on Byers' face. Her cheeks were covered in indentations. "It looked like a railroad track on my forehead and nose," says Byers of Castro Valley, Calif. "Here I was trying to do something nice for myself and I ended up looking worse than I ever had in my life." Contrary to popular belief, darker skin is not tougher; in fact, while extra melanin does have its benefits - sun protection and slowed signs of aging - it makes the skin more sensitive and vulnerable to injury. The side effects are common for people with darker skin. Most skin care is only marketed to white people (lacking tone), not even Asians, Hispanics and darker-skinned Europeans. Education of the skin is geared to white skin, and it's still not considered to be a prestigious career here in the United States as with beauty advisers in Europe. If the skin is darker it is prone to scarring and hyper-pigmentation, so we have to be more careful with skin of color. Latin, Asian, Indian, Mediterranean or African-American descents skin requires special skin care. Even acne or laser hair removal should be handled differently on...

Toxic Wasteland

...through the creek, and dingy trash covering the fields, fill the minds of travelers. Human waste has interrupted the beauty of nature. Beer cans, plastic bags, and McDonald’s® wrappers are dispersed throughout the environment. Trash is tucked away deep into the crevices of cities, forests, fields, and oceans. Littering affects not only the view of the beautiful environment, but it also affects animals, water systems, and plant life. The consequences of littering diminish the quality of life for all organisms in the ecosystem, and it must be stopped. Humans tend to be wasteful by nature. Almost everyone has left garbage outside, or thrown something out the window. Believe it or not, biodegradable substances such as orange peels, apple cores, and banana peels are all considered littering. While littering seems commonplace, it is disrespectful to the environment. Animals are injured, water sources are contaminated, and toxins are continually recycled into the ecosystem. State governments have been hard at work trying to find measures to decrease the amount of waste being thrown into our world. The real question is why do people continue to litter? The Scottish government provides people answers about the common issue of littering.
