Super Soldiers

...about one of science fictions classic conspiracy theories, Super Soldiers. When I say Super Soldiers, I mean the kinds that were genetically enhance. I have found that when someone hears “super soldiers’ their minds automatically go to Captain America or Master Chief from the Halo game series. Captain America started as a small lanky soldier that gotten injected with some type of serum that turns him in to the perfect solider. Master Chief taken from his family as a child and was train for eight years before scientist started their genetic testing. Is the military trying to make their own Captain America and Master Chief with a few extra abilities? If so, who is leading the testing and what types of powers are they trying to give to our soldiers? To try to answer these questions I had to start with where did this conspiracy stemmed from. The Beginning of the End by Micheal T. Snyder has led me to the DARPA (the defense advanced research projects agency). Let us have a quick insight into this agency. The DARPA is an agency of the United States Department of Defense that is responsible for the development of new technologies for military use. Established in 1958 their original mission was to prevent technological surprises for example the launch of Sputnik. Over the years, the mission has expanded from preventing surprises to making technological surprises of our own. Could they be talking about super soldiers? Is it possible that this agency is not just working on technology...

Devices That Assist People with Disabilities

...Devices that Assist People with Disabilities Sheewane Davis Mercer University In the 2008 Census, over 10 million Americans reported a daily activity limitation and their activities of daily living (ADLs) usually required assistance from tools or caregivers. Moreover, about 0.3 million Americans have experienced a serious spinal cord injury (SCI), for whom essential tasks, such as dressing, preparing food, or taking medications, usually require the assistance from personal caregivers. However, the shortage and high cost of experienced caregivers fail rapidly growing needs for personal assistance. Technology which aids in these tasks is in great demand and it must allow the user to independently and safely control both mobility and manipulation in their home or the community. Robotics technology has been widely applied in rehabilitation technology and assistive devices to enhance the performance of assistance and quality of life of people with disabilities. By attaching a robotic manipulator to a mobile base, such as a wheelchair or a mobile robot, several robotic assistive devices have been developed to provide both mobility and manipulation assistance to people with severe physical impairments. However, most existing devices only provide a single-arm manipulation, which greatly reduce their efficiency of assistance and restricts their ability to perform complex manipulation tasks which require the involvements of both arms, for example, open the refrigerator with one arm...

Compensation

...total compensation as part of the organization’s strategic planning in human resources management and operations. There are many ways to pay the compensation to its employees. Many people, especially the soldiers care about their base pay. If a soldier’s base pay is $18,000 a year then is it really less than a civilian who gets $20,000 a year as an individual’s total compensation? Most of soldiers and include myself didn’t understand the concept of “what is the Total Compensation.” After I learned this course, I started understand the total compensation and wanted to find out what actually the soldiers getting for their total compensation. The U.S. Army was established over 200 years and increased its size since then. The U.S. Army was founded on 14 June 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized enlistment of riflemen to serve the United Colonies for one year. Active duty soldiers and activated Army Reserve soldiers earn Army basic pay. Basic pay is the soldiers’ base salary as a soldier on active duty and it counts only as part of your total income. It is distributed on the 1st and 15th of every month, similar to many civilian jobs. The Army’s basic pay is depends on how long the soldier enter the Army as a private. The base pay will increase as the soldier climb in rank and years of experience. Like most of the other organizations, the U.S. Army has the regulation that covers “Military Pay and Allowances.” The Army Regulation 37-104-4 provides the financial...

Not all military members have the same stride as other fellow soldiers as the tasks, responsibilities, and major components of each soldier are different. With the numerous positions in the armed forces self management and sense of choice can occur on a daily basis. West Point Case Study

...West Point; it is a direct violation of the schools highly held honor code. The honor code is a West Point tradition, and has helped mold military leaders with high integrity and strong values. Due to the sheer number of individuals, who were alleged to be involved, and where the scandal was happening, the event garnered national attention. Due to the uproar in the press and across the country, more pressure was placed on General Sidney Berry, Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy by bureaucrats and politicians alike. Diagnosis West Point is not your ordinary school setting. It is a breeding ground for training our nation’s best and brightest future military leaders. In the United States Military, it is imperative for soldiers to lead with character, while remaining calm under fire. It seems West Point, at the time of this event, concerned itself more around punishing for crimes than it did developing character. If West Point was truly interested in developing leaders with high character, it would not utterly dismiss individuals for any perceived violation of the honor code. “[E]ach organization is embedded—more or less—in its own tradition, and the core virtues in one tradition will not necessarily be the same in another” (Dufresne & Offstein, 2012, p. 576). The storied traditions of West Point seem to have stymied the institution from keeping up with the times. Theory In the 1990’s, there was a survey...

...The United States military is still in transition of how it handles its female Soldiers in regards to pregnancy. Is it far to place restrictions on this private matter? Can the rules and regulations imposed be seen as sexist and gender specific? I will attempt to discuss these utilitarian and deontological considerations. From a utilitarian aspect it is deemed necessary to control female pregnancies especially with upcoming deployments. The military is facing a shortage of Soldiers across the board. A rising trend is developing of Female Soldiers purposely getting pregnant before deployment in order to avoid going overseas. Another issue is female Soldiers becoming pregnant while in Iraq or Afghanistan. It is important to maintain morale and keep Soldiers in the mind frame that deployment is necessary and part of our duty as Soldiers. Depending on the job, most military professions have a higher percentage of males than females. From a utilitarian view, I believe it is necessary to mediate female Soldiers pregnancies while our Nation is at war. The greater good would be for females not to become pregnant a couple of months before deployment purposely. More importantly, female Soldiers should not get pregnant while deployed. Female Soldiers often hold critical positions that the military depends on for successful operations in executing missions. When a female gets pregnant after attending certain qualifications and other training puts that unit in a terrible disposition...

The Navy

...Running head: THE NAVY 1 The Navy M Stevens University of Phoenix MGT 330 Daniel Capps, Jr. October 13, 2011 The Navy 2 The Navy The Navy’s mission statement is to maintain and train the Naval forces for combat-ready capabilities in completing missions. Collaboration with other uniformed services is one of the main key factors to succeed in every mission. According to Vice Adm. Bill Gortney, “Our mission is to provide a lawful maritime order and deny the use of the sea to terrorist and violent extremist. We do this through our presence…” As an enlisted service member in the Navy the organizational structure practices, uses the physical assets, monetary, human resources, knowledge, technology, and to achieve missions. These missions are set for each fiscal year to cover the monetary assets, and technology required. People interested in joining the Navy reserves and the regular active duty seek out for a Navy recruiter for information. The recruiters will screen the participants based on the person’s interest, background check, age, high school diploma or GED, and citizenship; these are some of the basic requirements that need to be met before enlisting in the Navy and other branches. Another important qualification is the person must be in physical shape before he or she signs a contract, and sent to basic training for three months. The Navy is committed...

Hero's Paper

...serves for there country in the U.S Army. The American soldier goes out of there way and risk’s he or she’s not a hero then I’m not sure what is because risking your life for other people’s protection sounds like a hero to me. One thing that is absolutely required to be in the U.S Army is bravery. Knowing that your career requires you going over sea’s from time to time and the risk that you just might not end up coming back. That all would require bravery at the most. The average soldier goes on about three tours every 10 years. My dad has been in the army for exactly 16 going on 17 years and has gone over seas 5 times, also will be going once again in February of 2010. He had served in Bosnia in 1996 thru 1997 also in Iraq from 2003 to 2004. The third place he served was Afghanistan from 2005 to 2006 and also Afghanistan from 2006 to 2007. Some people are afraid to see their small towns grow because they are afraid it will put the family owned businesses out of business. Or they just don’t like the idea of having the military in their community. Any type of growth will have advantages and disadvantages but bringing a military base into a community in my opinion is always a good one. With the military base in the community it would offer many civilian jobs on the base which usually pays more than working at a civilian company out in town. Some of the many types of jobs that civilians can do on base are working in the PX or commissary to working with the military police. If someone has a security clearance they can receive a higher paying job. Retired personnel are also able to get jobs on base as civilian contractors either doing the same job as what they were doing when they were in the military or maybe a different job. This will boost the economy which will allow people to have better living conditions than they are accustomed to. When there is a new military base in town there will need to be some changes to the surrounding area. Better roads to...
