Childhood Development and Sexual Behavior

Parents often are astonished at the certain behaviors that they observe their adolescent and toddler children engaging in. Youthful children partake in sexual behaviors similar to adults; actually, sexual behaviors begin with the baby is still in the mothers wound. This is considered the infancy stage (0-2 years) It has been reported that boys have erection sin the utero and some are even born with erections. Pelvic thrusting, orgasms, and masturbation are all things that are typical for infants and young children. Many toddlers discover their genitals, and find themselves rubbing it and enjoying the relaxing pleasure it gives them. Early childhood stage is between 3 and 8, this is where children tend to be more interested in seeing their parents or other naked or undressing, they navigate towards women breasts, begin to touch their own private parts, and more commonly,,,this is the age where a child is very interested in the opposite sex. Preadolescent stage happens between 9-13 years of age. At this age, preadolescent tend to make a close relationship with a friend or “best friend”, typically of the same sex to discuss secrets and other related topics. “Play fighting” usually happens at this stage and sex education is taught around this age, bringing reasoning to the different feelings and desires they may be experiencing. Adolescents stage happens after age 13 up until 17. Adolescents is the place between child and young adult. This is the stage where most body changing, feelings altering things happen. Puberty happens around this time, where a boy may obtain a deeper voice, facial hair, pubic hair, and have more frequent erections. Females will get their menstrual cycle, get pubic hair, and grow larger breasts at a faster pace. Sexual desires become more common and desirable and the curiosity to explore these feelings becomes more appealing. Throughout all of the stages the one sexual behavior that remains the same but gets more intense is masturbation…this can sexual behavior in occur in anyone from age 0 to 150 years old. It is a very common way to pleasure oneself.

Childhood Development

...Childhood Development Raymond A. Nearey, III Dr. Matthew Warren PSY/375 May 26, 2013 Childhood development is something that we all go through; it starts from infancy. Infants have a natural ability to explore their surroundings this is how they learn who people are, they begin to get familiarized with their surroundings and they are such things like parents, grandparents, smells, and sounds like someone’s voice. As they begin to grow from infancy to adolescence they begin to pick up traits from parents, siblings, or even their friends. Some of these can be bad habits or they can lead to success in a child’s life. Families can affect the development of infants and adolescence, and depending on the circumstances they can be good or bad. Many young girls/boy usually look up to their older sister or older brother. Many of those children can be influences on how on many of their life choices. Relationships can be a very great tool for children, when you show children love and you teach them compassion, love, and mercy, they will typically grow up showing those same traits. They should allow their children to socialize with other children, adolescence, and adults; as infants begin to age they understand and they will question the feelings of how other children act in school, such as bullies, and love interests (a school crush.) Children would like to know the feelings and the expectations of others and as parents in order to help with their children’s development it is important...

Childhood Development

...Abstract Child development is an ongoing progressive process. The child development process is stages which every child must go through in their growth. It encompasses learning and mastering of abilities like walking, talking, sitting, standing, etc. Children acquire these developmental milestones during periods in their lives as they grow. A child must develop in one area before progressing to another. In development stages, children experience, cognitive development, social and emotional development, language development, and gross motor skills development. Developmental milestones are talents or skills that children obtain through particular moments in time. Children develop these milestones in a chronological order. One skill must be developed before another skill can be learned or mastered. In normal circumstances, a child normally successfully achieves milestones at certain ages and stages in their lives. We all have our milestones past and future, personal and professional, individual and in common. (French 2012) Childhood Development Case Study Babies develop skills such as bonding mechanisms. They begin to recognize voices, imitate sounds. At about 6 months, they sit up alone, babble and begin making sounds. By toddler ages they walk, climb, and begin to repeat words. They begin to interact with other toddlers. As they grow they begin to develop other skills. By the time they are 4 years old, they develop...

...Childhood Development Essay The years from two to six years of age are referred to as early childhood or the preschool years of the developmental process (Rathus, 2012, p. 123). The early childhood years are critical to the future develop of the child. The brain development is intensive and sensitive to external environmental influences; therefore, it is imperative that its stimulation and nutrition are adequate and influences are positive (Makkaoui, 2009). “The brain develops more quickly than any other organ in early childhood (Rathus, 2012, p. 124). Such development helps to ensure that each child reaches his or her potential and is a productive part of a rapidly changing, global society (Makkaoui, 2009). As their nervous system matures, their motor skills explode and their movements become more and more precise and coordinated (Rathus, 2012, p. 125). The physical development is somewhat of a natural process. A few weeks after conception, the embryo is visible (Rathus, 2012, p. 37). If the mother takes the proper precautions by receiving adequate nutrition, medical attention, physical exercise and rest and relaxation, the embryo will continue to develop and grow into a fetus and eventually enters the world of the unknown outside the womb (Rathus, 2012, pp. 37-40). After the birth, the physical growth continues voluntarily. There is no formula or recipe that one must remember in order to assure the child continue to grow. Provided the child receives the proper nutrition...

Influences of Childhood Development

...Influences of Childhood Development La Tesha Simpson PSY/600 Developmental Psychology July 15, 2013 Judy Pendleton, PsyD Influences of Childhood Development Children are impressionable and share the characteristics of a sponge in a sense, by means of picking up a spill and letting it ooze out of their personality or behavior. Children imitate most of what they see and hear whether negative or positive. Imitating is learning and learning is form of development. Everyone and everything can influence the choices children make during childhood. The purpose of this paper is to investigate influences of childhood development. Development of any kind during childhood can have life altering factors. Some of those factors will include career development starting during early childhood, economic resources in child development, and socioeconomic status and child development. This investigation will demonstrate whether the influences are healthy or unhealthy development during childhood. Career Development during Childhood Parents and professional role models may influence children in their career choice. For example, if a parent is a doctor a child may find that exciting and want to follow the footsteps of the parent. Perhaps, the child learns how police officers and fire fighters give back to the community and want to do the same. Infancy and Childhood Development

...Infancy and Early Childhood Development Five: Infancy and early childhood development There are many aspects that influence a child’s development throughout life. Not only does development start while the fetus is growing, but all through life one’s body continues to develop. The beginning stages are the most important stage, this is were a parent needs to understand the physical and mental factors that affect a child’s development is through observation and interaction. Once an infant is born their brain is like a sponge begins to developed mental changes. Family dynamics can have a major effect on how a child matures and develops he or she grows older. The main impact on development, however, is the five senses that are developed within the child’s brain as it develops. A child’s early childhood can be broke down into two separate categories, they are experience-dependent which is known as cultural-bound and experience-expectant which is known as universal (Berger, 2011). Experience-expectant is where the nervous system is expected to develop a particular manner. The right cognitive growth is reliant on the right environmental exposure. In order for the experience-expectant to be in the proper range of growth is there shouldn’t be any kind of fetal damage to the brain. Effects on Childhood Development

...definitive and effects on childhood development. These factors vary widely, and encompass social, economic and ecological areas, as well as the physical environment in which a child is raised, influenced by neighborhood location, home life and educational facilities. Lorraine Maxwell, associate professor of design and environmental analysis at Cornell University defines these environments as "settings where a person spends a great deal of time and establishes important relationships." (Ulrich 12) When combined, these factors directly and indirectly influence the physical and emotional development of children. Negative impacts of environment on early upbringing have been shown to affect many areas, including behavior and academic performance, social and emotional issues, as well as actual physical development of the brain. Urie Brofenbrenner defined this relationship between development and the environment in his "Proposition 1" which went on to say, "especially in its early phases, and to a great extent throughout the life course, human development takes place through processes of progressively more complex reciprocal interaction between an active, evolving biopsychological human organism and persons, objects, and symbols in its immediate environment." (Brofenbrenner 38). In this early work Brofenbrenner explains the ecological model of human development, and his Proposition 1 explains the importance of the environment in the process of early human development. ...Infancy and Early Childhood Development Cynthia Miranda PSY 375 July 2, 2012 Dr. Aneta Bhojwani Infancy and Early Childhood Development Every human being begins developing in one way or another, from the moment they come into this world. Development and all its aspects begin in infancy and continue throughout one’s entire lifetime. It is a common belief that infants and young children are influenced by the environment that surrounds them. Cognitive and social aspects of development are shaped and molded at an early age, as well as language, speech, perception, and motor skills. A young child’s life is influenced by parents and family members, which is why they have a significant impact on the child’s development. When a child is old enough to attend school, he or she will also begin to adapt to the atmosphere of the school they are attending and to educational environment in that school; this will in turn affect the child’s cognitive development and social skills. Family Influences When a baby is first born, his or her brain begins to go through developmental changes. During the early stages of childhood, experiences can be split into two categories, experience-expectant and experience-dependent. Expectant experiences are those experiences that are common and somewhat universal experiences, and that most infants go through. Some of these experiences can be, but are not limited to, love from parents or families, perception of surrounding objects, and recognizing...

Infant & Early Childhood Development

...Infant & Early Childhood Development Helene M. Taulbee PSY/375 February 7, 2013 Janice Munn Infant & Early Childhood Development Family plays one of the most important roles in the development of an individual from birth and continuing through adulthood. The family unit is the core network that interacts with an individual from the time he or she takes their first breath. This network provides the building blocks upon which the infant will develop relationships, and grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. One of the very first developmental markers for an infant is attachment. This is an emotional tie to particular people that usually spans across the individual’s life, regardless of time and space. The infant’s parents or caregivers usually form the first attachment with the baby. This emotional bond plays an important part in how well the individual develops relationships in the future. If it is a strong, warm, nurturing bond, the individual will most likely feel secure within themselves. If it is a bond that causes the individual to feel insecure, there is a good chance the individual will grow up with low self-esteem and a struggling self-confidence (Berger, 2011). Another area of development that is largely impacted by the family is language. Parents, grandparents, and siblings all have a part in the development of a child’s language. The infant hears many words and sounds expressed by family members long before he or she can actually begin...

Infancy and Early Childhood Development

...Infancy and Early Childhood Development The brain of infants and early childhood development is empty and absorbable like a sponge throughout adulthood. At infancy stage, the brain develops according to exposure to verbal expression exposure and visual physical observation exposure. The human being brain will utilize the exposures throughout the developing stages in life (Feldman, 2010). Parenting interaction with an infant and environmental condition affects the way infants develop. Hence, it is fundamental to set positive structure from the beginning because the exposure cannot be undone when raising a child. It is significantly important to provide a nurturing environment. The Affect Families Have On Infants and Childhood Development From infancy, the brain instantaneously goes through developmental change. The progress is an effect of genes and the environment the infant is exposing to and as an outcome of experiences (Feldman, 2010). Early childhood experiences have two categories; experience-dependent and experience-expectant. Experience-expectant refers to the development of the nervous system and it is predictable to develop in a certain way. Standard cognitive growth is reliant of the positive type of environmental exposure. With the exception of any type of fetal damage to the brain, in order for the experience-expectant to be within usual range of development; when an infant is exposed to a loving gesture (as an example), it should respond cognitively.
