To whom it may concern, With regards to the Aston language centre website, I am writing to apply for the "Business Internships in China" position. Having one of the oldest cultures in the world as well as some of the world’s most iconic landmarks and culinary delights, for as long as I can remember I have been intrigued and fascinated by the tradition and rich history of the Chinese culture. Having recently graduated from the prestigious University of Ulster with a merit in MA Business Studies with Sport management I am interested in applying my business acumen in a country which is renowned for business and trade and has experienced such recent phenomenal growth. In particular, the Northern Ireland economy is currently in recession and in order to recover, allot of emphasis is being placed on growing the private sector. I therefore have the ambition to go to China, embed myself in the culture and business language, so that I may build by skills in International strategy and investment. As a result, Upon my return to Northern Ireland I will be able to apply the knowledge and skills I have learned to aid the process of exportation of goods from Northern Ireland to China, in order to grow Northern Ireland’s private sector and encourage the recovery from the longstanding downturn in the economy we currently find ourselves.

Furthermore, I come from a strong sporting background having represented county, provincial and national level at a variety of sports and also competed internationally at the lawn tennis championships held at Eaton college in Windsor, England. For the past few years I have used my expertise in sport to give back to the community I live in by coaching aspiring tennis and badminton players at my local sports club. This opportunity to coach and instruct children and young adults has greatly improved my communication and interpersonal skills, enabling myself to forge strong and lasting relationships with colleagues and people I meet in a relatively short amount of time. This passion and enthusiasm for sport was further bolstered after witnessing the extraordinary scenes at the opening and closing ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The opportunity to see the Bird’s nest stadium and Olympic village where all those iconic sporting moments took place is another reason why I wish to be involved in this Business internship in China.

Finally, In my ordinary life I will never have the opportunity to visit china, and would therefore love the opportunity to be a part of this programme. I have comprehensive skills set which will allow me to make a considerable contribution to the programme. Furthermore, I will benefit greatly from the programme as well as the benefit the Northern Ireland economy will receive, and as such, this makes me an extremely motivated and enthusiastic candidate to have on the programme.

Thank you for your consideration of my application, I look forward to discussing this opportunity with you further.

Yours faithfully and kindest regards,
Joe Bloggs

International Resumes

...Communication Britnie Hassen Colorado Technical University After extensive research on international job openings in Mexico, Israel, China and UAE I was able to find some customer service jobs that all four countries are looking to have filled by different companies. Here are the links to each posting that I located: China: Mexico: Israel: UAE: Differences in resume, cover letter and email formalities internationally: For starters the term resume can also be referred to as a “CV” or curriculum vitae, which is typically the same thing as a resume except CV’s are normally two pages long and with multiple attachments. Cover letters as referred to in the U.S have multiple names internationally like letters of interest and motivation letters. Regardless of the name the process is still the same however typically self-photos of the applying individual are attached to a cover letter, resume or both whereas in the U.S, photos are not appropriate attachments when looking for employment. It is also important to remember that paper sizes differ in other countries so altering......

Cover Letter

...All cover letters should: Explain why you are sending a resume. Don't send a resume without a cover letter. Don't make the reader guess what you are asking for; be specific: Do you want a summer internship opportunity, or a permanent position at graduation; are you inquiring about future employment possibilities? Tell specifically how you learned about the position or the organization — a flyer posted in your department, a web site, a family friend who works at the organization. It is appropriate to mention the name of someone who suggested that you write. Convince the reader to look at your resume. The cover letter will be seen first. Therefore, it must be very well written and targeted to that employer. Call attention to elements of your background — education, leadership, experience — that are relevant to a position you are seeking. Be as specific as possible, using examples. Reflect your attitude, personality, motivation, enthusiasm, and communication skills. Provide or refer to any information specifically requested in a job advertisement that might not be covered in your resume, such as availability date, or reference to an attached writing sample. Indicate what you will do to follow-up. In a letter of application — applying for an advertised opening — applicants often say something like "I look forward to hearing from you." However, if you have further contact info (e.g. phone number) and......

If you feel you don’t have enough information to include in your resume add other sports you play or list community service. The information on the resume must be factual, but this is the place where if your academics are not stellar and your soccer playing is, try to emphasize the great soccer player you are and make that jump off of the page. The academics will need to be on the resume too, but consider your strengths when you design your resume. Cover letters Every resume submitted to a college coach should be accompanied by a cover letter. The purpose of the cover letter is to introduce yourself to the coach in a more personalized fashion. Importance of Cover Letter

...bea1_c01.qxd 12/12/01 10:20 AM Page 1 1 Importance of Cover Letters The cover letter you choose for transmitting your resume to an employer or important networking contact can be one of the most significant factors in the success (or failure) of your job-hunting campaign. In fact, a survey of nearly 600 employment professionals, conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), suggests some 76% of employers may automatically eliminate an employment candidate from any further hiring consideration, based solely on the quality of his or her cover letter alone. Further, 43% of survey respondents also reported they view the cover letter as equal to the resume in importance. When it comes to running an effective employment campaign, therefore, this data should cause you to sit up and take notice! (Note: A copy of the full survey, which covers both cover letters and resumes can be obtained by contacting SHRM by phone, (703) 548-3440, or by e-mail at If well written and informative, the cover letter can grab the reader’s attention, raise his curiosity, and stimulate immediate interest in your employment candidacy. In fact, if particularly well written, it can sometimes raise sufficient interest to compel the reader to extend an interview invitation without reading the resume document to which it is attached. By contrast, a poorly written cover letter can be disastrous to an otherwise successful job-hunting campaign, serving as an immediate......

...English Language Essay Topic: “Writing is a more prestigious mode of language than speaking.” Writing and speaking are important aspects of our lives. These modes of language share significant differences between each other. However, they both allow us to communicate to others in society effectively. Despite how vital it is to be able to write productively, speaking is a more essential mode of language than writing. Speaking allows us to socialise with the people around us and develop relationships. Although, we can convey more complex ideas through writing as it is more organised and structured. Ultimately, it is much more efficient to express emotions through speech than writing. Socialisation has played an important role since the beginning of human civilisation. Through speech, we are able to interact with one another and develop close relationships with others. When we begin our education in Prep, no one knows each other that well. Over time, students start to get to know each other a little better through speaking to one another about various topics. If a handful of people have a common interest in a certain toy such as Hot Wheels, they will talk about it amongst each other. Most friendships are often formed through individuals having similar interests. When you talk about it with people who share that interest, it indicates to them that you have a good knowledge of the particular interest. It also allows them to talk about it in more detail without anyone......

...Cover Letters While your resume is a summary of your credentials, your cover letter should essentially be a sales pitch. Your aim is to demonstrate why your skills and your background make a perfect match for the position you're applying for. The cover letter is not the place to summarize your background--you have already done this in your resume. Remember, employers typically receive hundreds of resumes for each job opening. You must stand out from other job seekers in a positive way. The best way to distinguish yourself is to highlight one or two of your accomplishments or abilities that show you are an above-average candidate for this position. Stressing only one or two unique attributes will increase your chances of being remembered by the recruiter and getting to the interview stage, where you can elaborate on the rest of your accomplishments. You can also gain an extra edge by showing that you have some specific knowledge about the company and industry. This shows that your are genuinely interested in the job you are applying for--and that you are not blindly sending out hundreds of resumes. More importantly, the employer will view your interest as an indication that you are likely to stay with the company for a substantial period of time if you are hired. 10 Key Details to Remember When to send a cover letter: always mail a cover letter with your resume. Even if you are following up an advertisement that reads simply "send resume," be sure to......
