In this report, I intend to review a variety of theories relative to organizational behaviour by considering each in relation to my own experiences as a mid-level manager. This reflection will focus primarily on three themes including personality, working in groups, and leadership. Throughout this report, I will consider my own personal strengths and weaknesses, attempting to determine how each affected situational outcomes. Many of these strengths and weaknesses were highlighted through a series of self-assessment exercises completed as part of the "Prentice Hall Self-Assessment Library" (Robbins and Judge, 2007), the results of which will be regularly referred to in this report. In closing, I will summarize areas requiring continued personal effort in order to ensure ongoing development and both personal and professional growth. Independent Reading

...Reading is a multifaceted process involving word recognition, comprehension, fluency and motivation. It is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning (reading comprehension). It is a means of language acquisition of communication, and of sharing information and ideas. Like all language, it is a complex interaction between the text and the reader which is shaped by the reader’s prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and language community which is culturally and socially situated. The reading process requires continuous practice, development and refinement. Reading is making meaning from print, it requires that we: i. Identify the words in print – a process called word recognition. ii. Construct an understanding from them – a process called comprehension. iii. Coordinate identifying words and making meaning so that reading is automatic and accurate – an achievement called fluency. Sometimes you can make meaning from print without being able to identify all the words. Sometimes you can identify words without being able to construct much meaning from them. Sometimes you can identify words and comprehend them, but if the processes don’t come together smoothly, reading will still be a labored process. Reading in its fullest sense involves weaving together word recognition and comprehension in a fluent manner. These three processes are complex and each is important. i. To develop word recognition, One need to learn: • How to break...

A Textbook Evaluation

...for use within an honors eleventh grade calculus classroom. This report will include the results recorded for each textbook, and will then indicate which textbook was evaluated as the most suitable for an eleventh grade reader. The Fry readability graph was the first method used for the evaluation of each textbook. The graph was developed in the 1960’s and later revised by Edward Fry in 1977. The original version was created for African teachers who taught English as a second language. After the revision it also included explanations, directions and an extension to the 17th grade level. The Fry readability graph is used to determine the appropriate grade level for a chosen textbook. During this evaluation a total of three passages were used; two passages from the beginning of the text and one passage from the end. After choosing the three different 100 word-count passages, the number of sentences in each passage were counted and then averaged. The syllables in each of the 100 word-count passages were also counted and then averaged. The Flesch-Kincaid grade-level score was the second method used in determining the readability statistics. was formulated with the use of technology. For this report, Microsoft Word 2007 was used to determine the readability statistics. After typing a total of three passages, two from the beginning of the text and one passage from the end of the text, Microsoft Word 2007 automatically displays the readability statistics after checking...
