PART I: What is a worldview?

What is a “worldview”? Well it is just that a view of the world. The way we see and think about life, death, education, faith, world, money, morals, values, and every other aspect of life. There are many things that influence a person’s worldview. Our culture and religion are major influences on how we view life. When we think about life in very many questions come to mind. Some of us tend to ask things like who are we and how did we get here? How should we live? Why are we here? What happens when we die? Is there life after this? The answers to those questions will vary depending on the type of worldview you hold at that point in time. Word Count 125

PART II: A biblical/Christian worldview (what is believed?)

The Question of Origin – (How did life begin? How did mankind come into existence?)

We have all most likely questioned where and how we came about as humans. The answers you come across would be different depending on the type of worldview you and your personal beliefs. One of the most popular theories is that of Darwin. This theory is taught nationwide in most public school systems. Another is the Biblical creation theory. To get a better understanding about the biblical creation the person studying should start with reading into the story of the creation in Genesis chapter 1. It starts by telling us that, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” This was the start of the creation of the universe as we know it. If you read future it says “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him” (Gen 1:27 KJV). Reading this story will help with gaining a clearer Christian worldview.

The Importance of a Christian Worldview

...Worldview is a way of viewing the world which affects how someone understands their life and experiences. For Christians, worldview is formed by one’s faith. Even though some people might not recognize it, everyone has a worldview. It is especially imperative for believers to know their worldview so that they can apply it to their everyday lives. It is important for Christians to develop a worldview in order to be a witness for Christ, defend one’s faith, and discern what is good. Being a witness for Christ is one of a Christians primary purposes. Scriptures say that people were created for God’s glory and to proclaim his praises (1 Chronicles 16:23-25); therefore, a worldview is necessary in order to know exactly what to believe and teach it. A worldview is a person’s ultimate beliefs and assumptions about the universe. In order to be a witness for Christ, believers must follow the basic set of beliefs Christianity teaches. For example: there is a God, God is everything, we were created by God in his image, morality is grounded in Gods character, etc. Without these basic principles there is no basis for what is being taught and what the prophet believes. Jeremiah 1:7-8 says, “But the LORD said to me,’ Do not say I am too young, you must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you, Do not be afraid of them for I am with you and will rescue you declares the LORD.” The Bible teaches that Christians are expected to spread the Lord’s message no matter what...

Christian Worldview

...According to the Christian Worldview, eternal life is gained through believing in the Son of God. This is talked about several times throughout the Bible. Two verses that always come to mind when I think about having eternal life are John 3:16 and John 5:13. John 3:16 tells us “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 5:13 states “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. It also states in Matthew 25:46 “These will go away in to eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” So this would tell us that if we are declared righteous, we will gain eternal life. How do we do that? Romans 3:20 tells us “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.” We are to repent for our sins, ask for forgiveness, and believe and have faith in the Lord in order to obtain eternal life. Atheist do not believe in afterlife, so they don’t feel a need to repent and believe in God to get them anywhere. Pantheist do not believe in an afterlife Heaven, some of them believe you become part of nature once you pass away. Just because these worldviews do not have an eternal life to motivate the way they live, it does not mean they don’t have morals or live good lives. It just means they don’t think being that way will get...

Christian Worldview

...Biblical/Christian Worldview Assignment I. A worldview is the way that we view the world. It is the way that we see things through our own eyes. Our worldview affects the way we answer questions and make decisions throughout our daily lives. II. 1. The Christian worldview trusts that the creator God, created everything out of nothing. He first created the heavens and earth (Genesis 1:1) and then everything that surrounds it. The creator God created us and gave us our breath. (Isaiah 42:5) 2. The Christian worldview believes we were created as a special creation of God and in his image. (Genesis 1:27) Humans were not created below the animals or above the angels, but we were created to be the caretakers of all of God’s creations. (Genesis 2:15) 3. Christians believe the purpose of our lives is to have a personal, loving, intimate relationship with our creator God. Know that he is our Lord and Savior. (Proverbs 3:5) To know God is to be faithful to him, to love him, speak to him and learn about him through the Bible. Christians believe that our almighty God speaks to us through the bible. It’s not just about knowing God, but to let him into our hearts, love him each and every day and know that he is the only God. (John 17:3) 4. Morality and ethics of a Christian worldview is based upon the holy standard of our Lord. This doesn’t mean that we are perfect, because we aren’t. As humans, we were born into sin (Psalm 51:5) and we can’t save ourselves...

...Part I - What is worldview? Worldview is whatever we use to guide our life and help us along our path of life. As Christians this guide is our Bible. A framework in which we use as a philosophy of life and helps us in our decision making process. (Weider, L. & Gutierrez, B., 2011) It is a way to interpret the life and world around us. Part II - The Christian worldview of origin is that God created all things from nothing. Everything from the heavens and the earth; light and dark; land and water; vegetation and living creatures; and finally man. (Genesis 1:1-25) God decided to make man in his own image to have dominion over all creatures on the earth. Mankind came into existence by God forming him from nothing, too. (Genesis 2:7) Worldview of identity is that all humans are made in the likeness and the image of God. (Genesis 9:6) As for humans being more important than animals; yes, God tells us to reign over all living creatures. (Genesis 1:28) Christians believe that our purpose on this earth is to know God and fear him while keeping his commandments. (Ecclesiastes 12:13) Christians ask at times, why do I exist? We exist to have a true intimate relationship with God. We are to love the Lord our God with everything that we are. (Matthew 22:37) As Christians, we believe the worldview of morality is that knowing the right things to do but not do them is a sin. (James 4:17) Knowing the difference between right and wrong though the scriptures of the bible teaches...

Worldview of a Christian

...Worldview Writing Assignment Part 1 The general definition of a worldview as we all know is a person’s perspective on the world. We get these worldviews from personal experiences, but mostly we obtain them from assumptions. For example, in high school there is a new student from another country. We assume that because this student is from a different country that he is smart, which may not be true. The new student is a symbol for a worldview, it shows that we as people judge a situation and make what we want to make of it, but do not see it for what the situation actually is. To me a worldview is being able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and imagining you growing up in a different country with a different family, belief and education. (Word count 132) A biblical worldview is something that every Christian has without knowing it. The biblical worldview is taking all Christian values and teachings and blending it together with life lessons and even school subjects. We also need to know that God is the center of everything and how God is revealed in life in general. This is believed because it is the truth. As Christians we need to think like critical thinkers and not pretend we know something that we do not know. When we do that we tend to stray away from Gods word and start making it our own. (Word count 100) My worldview is that people can be accepting at times, but ultimately as a world we have much trouble uniting. I always imagine what it would be like growing...

Christian Worldview

...My Christian View In our everyday experience, just about everything seems to have a beginning. In fact, the laws of science show that even things which look the same through our lifetime, such as the sun and other stars, are, in reality, running down. The sun is using up its fuel at millions of tons each second—since the sun cannot last forever, it had to have a beginning. The same can be shown to be true for the entire universe.(Denton, 1986) So when Christians claim that the God of the Bible created all the basic entities of life and the universe, some will ask what seems to be a logical question: “Who created God?” The very first verse in the Bible declares: “In the beginning God ... .” There is no attempt in these words to prove the existence of God or imply in any way that God had a beginning. In fact, the Bible makes it clear in many places that God is outside time. He is eternal, with no beginning or end. By very definition, an eternal Being has always existed—nobody created Him. God is the Self-Existent One—the great “I Am” of the Bible. He is outside time; in fact, He created time. Think about it this way: everything that has a beginning requires a cause. The universe has a beginning and therefore requires a cause. But God has no beginning since He is beyond time. So God does not need a cause. There is nothing illogical about an eternal Being who has always existed even though it might be difficult to fully understand. You might argue, “But that means I have to accept...

Christian Worldview

...Christian Worldview Worldview Essay Many people go about their lives believing and practicing different religions. These beliefs usually develop through how an individual interprets or perceives reality, also known as a worldview. Everyone may not follow a certain religion or believe in the same God or a God at all, but everyone has a set of views and beliefs about the universe and life in general that they live their life by. Whether it is conscious or subconscious, everyone possesses a worldview. A Christian worldview is a more specific belief system that consists of many aspects. It is a view that mediates from our understanding and experiences of the world and I believe that my worldview generally matches up to that of a Christian worldview, but has its differences. Christians generally believe that God is the center and origin of all things, he is self-defining and he created everyone for a specific purpose. For one, I do believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I am also a follower of the Christian faith. However, I am still young and trying to discover different aspects of myself and how I see and interpret the world. Since I am still experiencing the world and seeing different aspects of it daily, my worldview is constantly changing. What I perceive as my worldview has its similarities and differences from a Christian worldview. For example, there are two views to the development of the universe. One is that the universe was an accident and just happened...

The Christian Worldview

...Part One: What is a worldview? The term worldview is defined as the way in which an individual defines and views the world around them including the way they interact with someone, and the decisions that they choose to make in the future. Furthermore a person’s worldview is how they choose to filter their personal experiences. Part Two: Articulate the biblical/Christian worldview There are many theories in regards to the Origin of the World. The biblical worldview is that God is both the creator and the cause of life. The bible is very specific in its regards to the explanation of Origin, stating that God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1, HCSB) as well as explaining that God also created mankind from the depths of the earth, and planned out our existence from formlessness (Psalms 139:16-16, HSCB). The biblical worldview also answers the question of identity stating that in creation there were two kinds of men both physical and spiritual (1 Corinthians 15:45-49, HSCB) as well as stating that we were created from the dust in Gods image and nature (Genesis 1:26, HSCB). As the bible is clear to how the world was created and to the identity of mankind, the bible is clear as to the purpose of life. Stating in 2 Corinthians 6:16, the purpose of this life is to walk and dwell amongst the Lord our God. The bible also defines the meaning of life in regards to others stating that God comforts us, that we might show comfort to others (2 Corinthians 1:4, HSCB). While the...

Christian Worldview

...Worldview Assignment I. To have a worldview means that one has created a personal philosophy of life and those philosophies go on to frame decision making choices as well as how one sees and portrays the world around them. It’s therefore safe to say that ones’ worldview is constantly evolving through time based on circumstances, and the “groups” by which one identifies with. Perception changes and as a result of those changes one’s interpretation or “worldview” of the world around them deviates as well. II. 1. The Question of Origin: According to the Christian worldview on the origin of life, the inception of everything that exists to include humans and animals was as a result of God, our Creator. Instead of life coming from non-living matter, as the Naturalist theory presumes, life came from life in the form of our eternally living God (Genesis 1:1). Man is not a result of an evolutionary process; man is unlike animals in that he is created in the “image of God” as thus stated in Genesis 1:27. We did not evolve from animals, but we share God’s nature. 2. The Question of Identity: The Bible answers the question “what does it mean to be human” by stating that men were created in God’s image and likeness, to replenish and subdue the earth and have power over every living thing on Earth (Genesis 26-28). We are unlike animals in that man has a spirit along with bodies whereas animals do not. Animals lack that special intrinsic value that comes from being created...

The Christian Worldview

...The term worldview comes from two German words: welt, meaning world and anschauung, meaning perception (Caner & Hindson, page 498). It dictates how an individual looks at life, determines a persons actions, and determines the type of eyes (or filter) a person interprets the things around him or her (Gutierrex & Weider, Page 60). A Christian has a biblical worldview based upon God’s written word. The Christian worldview dictates the exact filter by which life and the world around him is to be interpreted. This is true with regards to origin, identity, meaning or purpose in life, morality or ethics, and destiny. The Biblical worldview regarding origin is quite simple. It is a view that believes that God created everything (Genesis 1:1; John 1:3). God declares, in Isaiah 66 verse 2, that He created everything. Because of this, one can be assured that God is the origin of all things. Identity is second way one can have a biblical worldview. Mankind is the only of God’s creation to be in the image of God (Genesis 1:26, 2:7). This let’s one know that God took special care when creating mankind. How precious is it to have been created so uniquely by the Eternal God (Psalm 90:1-4; 1 Timothy 1:7). This often leads even the Christian to ask what his purpose is. Christians are not exempt from asking the question of meaning or purpose. The Christians’ purpose is to develop a relationship with God through Jesus (John 17:3). The bible answers questions regarding life, living, family...
