Well I didn’t really accomplish anything but it was relatively fun compared to my previous Christmases. Every day (except for probably 2 days) I woke up at around 11 AM to 1PM, have lunch, go online, sleep again, go online some more, watch the same movies over again and sleep at around 2 AM to 4AM. I guess I’m just making up for the sleepless nights. I know, still very unproductive and very unhealthy of me but going out isn’t always fun for me. So that’s what I did most of the break. On Christmas Eve, my family went to church for the mass (we always do this because my father is very religious) and then after that we headed back home and feasted on the Noche Buena that my mother didn’t exactly make but worked hard in ordering. We ate and ate and ate. There are only five people in our household plus my parents aren’t exactly the fun type of people so it wasn’t exactly a fun Christmas (as usual) but there was food so that saves everything. Oh and the priest went to our house to have dinner and it was awkward (hehehe). After eating, the second or third round I think, we exchanged gifts! In the piece we can observe from left to right the three magi represented as kings looking at baby Jesus. As we continue from left to right we can see Virgin Mary holding Jesus with her hands while he touches one of the kings. And in the back, and all around the kings and Virgin Mary, there is a group of people looking what is happening in the room. The baroque piece shows extravagance and exaggeration on the people’s cloth and body type, I can say that because the three kings are very tall, big in body size, and highly strong; they are shown wearing fancy and extravagant cloth, with gold, blue, and red colors. The baby looks very big as well, a little fat ,and with a strong body for being just a baby. Another detail that we can observe in the painting is the contrast of light and darkness. Activity #2: CHRISTMAS OUTREACH PROGRAM To give and to share is a Carolinians vision. We had a Christmas outreach program in Tisa Elementary School, where we played and ate with the children. We also gave out toys as prizes and as gifts. I personally, enjoyed playing with the children. Activity #3: BOWLING For the 2nd time in my whole life, I got to play bowling. ...Centuries of Song and Dance Festivals Everyone in their lives should be witness to the amazing scene of tens of thousands of people who belong to various choirs standing and singing together or dancing folk dances during a song and dance festival in Riga, Latvia. The participants are a mix of small children, teenagers, young adults, middle aged adults and even senior citizens. They continue even today and are held every four years. Song festivals usually begin with a grandiose parade where people are dressed in their Latvian national costumes which differ from region to region. The site is wonderful and colorful. People are carrying bunches of flowers and waving them to the people who are watching and the many choirs who are participating carry Latvian flags. After the choirs come the Latvian dance groups who perform many different Latvian national dances twirling in their colorful national costumes and then there are the musicians either smaller bands or larger orchestras who play while people sing or dance. The parade progresses through the streets of Riga and winds up in a large recreation park called Mezaparks where the performances are held in an area with a large bandstand and many, many benches for the audience.
