Executive Summary
The Chattanooga Ice Cream Division (CIC), one of the largest regional manufacturers of ice cream in the U.S., currently faced a major dilemma that could potentially impact the viability of the long-standing company. The division’s President and General Manager, Charles Moore, just received news from their third largest customer that they were switching to another competitor brand and therefore terminating their contract with CIC for at least two years. The customer revealed that their decision was based on variety of factors, but it was no secret that CIC had fallen behind their competition. Ice Cream consumption in general was on a steady decline and CIC found itself to be a dinosaur of brands amongst new premium and super premium brands who manufactured innovative mix-in flavored ice cream varieties, and healthier frozen yogurt options. CIC, with its production of mid-priced, basic ice cream flavors was losing its popularity. Moore calls an emergency meeting with his department leads. With just 90 days until the loss of their major client, Moore seeks the input and expertise of his top executives. To his dismay, this fragmented group of individuals engages in public conflict during the meeting and no census is reached on how the company will counter-act the loss of revenue of their third largest client. With little time to lose, Moore has to make an important decision about the direction of the CIC brand and at the same time salvage his team, uniting them to a common mission.

Dysfunction of the Team

The Chattanooga Ice Cream Division (CIC) team was dysfunctional due to poor leadership, lack of cohesion as a team, and a general distrust of one another. Because Moore failed to integrate his team to one unit, his group of

...Internet Café (CIC) venture has both promise and risk attached to it, like any other start up venture. Mr. David Grant should consider the following issues before entering into this venture. His main managerial issue would be cost vs benefit. He must consider if the venture would be profitable for him and for CIC and also how long it will take for him to recover his initial cost. His concern should be "Will he be able to repay his loan on time?" To do this he has to figure out his fixed cost, variable cost and also the start up costs. These are presented in the answers to the following questions. I have also presented an analysis based on Socio economic, technological situation, and SWOT analysis. Socio economical condition in Jamaica There is an unmet demand in the country for easily available internet access and combined with a coffee shop, this can be a great venture. There seems to be a great awareness for the technology but not that many private users. Mr.Grant will have the advantage of new enterprise offering to meet this void in the country. Economically the country has been in negative economic growth and the fact that Mr.Grant will be increasing the price for intenet access by 30% may be a bit expensive to many users. He has to watch the revenue and the economic developments and adjust his pricing accordingly Jamaica has many restaurants and cafe but none of them offer internet browsing services in Kingston area. CIC may be facing competition...

Chattanooga Ice Cream

...Executive Summary The following case study analysis examines the Chattanooga Ice Cream division’s recent failures in light of Stay & Shop’s recent decision to replace CIC with Sealtest in all of their Southeast Stores. It will shed a light on the dysfunctions and shortcomings of the team and their leader. A comprehensive analysis will follow and break down where CIC has failed both within the company and in the marketplace. After an examination and analysis is complete, I will offer a series of recommendations that must be made in order to bring CIC back to profitability and relevance. Introduction Chattanooga Ice Cream is in trouble. They have suffered from a lack of leadership, poor management, lack of marketplace knowledge and a dysfunctional team. Due to these reasons, they have found themselves in a position where their third-largest customer, Stay & Shop, has decided to replace them with the Sealtest line in all of their southeast region supermarkets within the next 90 days. This decision has caused the company, and their leader, Charlie Moore, to go into panic mode in an attempt to keep the business afloat, while also increasing revenue and expanding the product line while facing external stressors that include the competition introducing premium and “mix-in” flavors and the sagging consumption of ice cream. The Issues and Problems After a lengthy review of the case study, I have come to recognize three distinct problems that CIC faces. They have an unclear and...

...CENTRAL INSURANCE CANADA Financial services case studies Submitted to: Umar Submitted on: 13/03/2014 Submitted by: Vignesh Kumar Key Issues: 1.Loss of customers The customer’s envelope was being upheld by the Canada post and requested to pay additional fees, to collect the envelope. This was because Central insurance Canada had not paid enough money to receive the post duly. The issue arose when there were additional inserts, leading to added weight in the envelope. The envelope contained policy statement and other promotional inserts. The customer got really frustrated because they were asked to pay for the handling fees of the mail and the GST for it. In addition, the premium bill or the policy statement was inside the envelope, which the customer has to pay. The customer felt really let down by the Central Insurance Canada (CIC) because, they were asked to pay the premium amount and above all the handling charges for the mail too. They immediately cancelled their policy and purchased a new policy from their competitive insurance company. 2. Improper handling of mails. Improper handling of mails was another issue, which affected the Central Insurance Canada. There were nearly 620,000 units of outgoing mail for which they spent $400,000 yearly. All the mails consisted of different inserts and policy statements and envelopes. Most of the members had different schemes and packages available for them, Hence weight of the envelopes varied from person to person...

...A STUDY OF FULVIA by Allison Jean Weir A thesis submitted to the Department of Classics In conformity with the requirements for The degree of Master of Arts Queen’s University Kingston, Ontario, Canada December 2007 copyright © Allison Jean Weir 2007 Abstract Who was Fulvia? Was she the politically aggressive and dominating wife of Mark Antony as Cicero and Plutarch describe her? Or was she a loyal mother and wife, as Asconius and Appian suggest? These contrasting accounts in the ancient sources warrant further investigation. This thesis seeks to explore the nature of Fulvia’s role in history to the extent that the evidence permits. Fulvia is most famous for her activities during Antony’s consulship (44 BC) and his brother Lucius Antonius’ struggle against C. Octavian in the Perusine War (41-40 BC). But there is a discrepancy among the authors as to what extent she was actually involved. Cicero, Octavian and Antony, who were all key players in events, provide their own particular versions of what occurred. Later authors, such as Appian and Dio, may have been influenced by these earlier, hostile accounts of Fulvia. This is the first study in English to make use of all the available evidence, both literary and material, pertaining to Fulvia. Modern scholarship has a tendency to concentrate almost exclusively on events towards the end of Fulvia’s life, in particular the Perusine War, about which the evidence is much more abundant in later sources such as Appian and...

The focus on standard setting is specially geared to reveal the impact of that process on the profession, market, state and community, and vice versa. Susela (1996) illustrates that because standards clearly impact on practitioners (the profession), it is hardly surprising that they develop ``interests'' around standard setting, whether expressed through accounting associations or firms. The standard setting arena is here viewed as a site of struggle between interest groups, both within the profession and outside it. To date, no such study has been done of the Malaysian...

Commercial banks represent a big role in this development. The banks’ capital rose rapidly and became an important factor in Vietnamese economic growth. However, a negative side always follows the result of any growth. Expanding operation leads to debt rate increase in most commercial banks. Especially bad debts rate rose rapidly. Bad debts became a serious problem for the Vietnamese economy. When the amount of bad debts increases to a particular point, it will hinder the development as well as the operations of the banks. ...in Spanish Communication Journals ´ david ferna ndez-quijada This article explores how journals published in a language other than English achieve a degree of internationality and can increase our knowledge of scientific publication patterns. This author offers a case study focused on Spanish communication journals from a sample of 1182 articles published from 2007 to 2009. The article examines three variables in this sample: the number of non-Spanish scholars, the use of languages other than Spanish, and how often non-Spanish journals are referred to. The results show that (a) these journals find it difficult to attract foreign scholars, (b) open-language policies have had a limited effect, and (c) internationality is constrained to the Spanish geolinguistic region. Keywords: internationality, local journals, Spanish scholarly journals, journal evaluation, communication sciences introduction The impact of published research is measured by means of well-established tools; one such tool is the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). However, in the field of communication studies — and in fact in all the social sciences — the SSCI does not take account of all the research published; this is particularly visible in cases where research is published in languages other than English. For example, in 2009, only 81 out of the 1585 articles (5.11 per cent) indexed in the Communication category of the SSCI were not written in English. In the context of these facts, analysing the research...

There are three related topics covered within this paper: risk propensity, defined as a person’s desire to either avoid or to take risks; risk preference, the perceived level of risk and uncertainty a person is willing to accept in a given situation; and risk perception, the subjective view of the perceived risk associated with a hazard (Adams, 1995). These areas have been largely overlooked by construction management research, which has instead concentrated on the harder issues of risk management, such as risk quantification using statistical analysis and the methods adopted to do this (Edwards & Bowen, 1999). The terms risk and uncertainty have become interchangeable, and one can often be...
