People are moving into a new era of mobile computing, one that promises greater variety in applications, highly improved usability, and speedier networking. The 3G iPhone from Apple is the poster child for this trend, but there are plenty of other developments that point in this direction. In addition to this trend, many mobile applications were designed that perform specific tasks for the mobile user. * Assess the effectiveness and efficiency mobile-based applications provide to capture geolocation data and customer data, and quickly upload to a processing server without users having to use a desktop system.
Nowadays, according to statistic, Ninety-seven percent of all smartphone users use mobile applications. Fifty-eight percent of those smart phone users use location-based applications. The results were raised from surveys done by a nonprofit global information security association called ISACA (previously known as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association). The location-based activities were implemented via applications installed on smartphone. These apps using the users current locations was calculated fifty-nine percent of the time but tagging photos on social media such as Twitter or Facebook was estimated forty-four percent. Besides, several mobile apps that capture geographical information, sim-card information and other personal information to share on social network are gradually increased in number. The captured information could be easily uploaded to a processing server through the phone just by downloading the application to the phone. (Location based applications, 2012) * Evaluate benefits realized by consumers because of the ability to gain access to their own data via mobile applications.
The largest benefit is convenience. The line is

A Study of the Parameters Influencing the Capacity Credit of Wecs

...penetration of wind generated electricity into power grids has been increasing significantly. During the last few decades, wind energy has doubled in capacity every three years. Because of the intermittent characteristics of wind power, it is usually difficult to determine an acceptable penetration level to maintain specific reliability requirements. The need for better capacity credit assessment for wind electric conversion systems is clear. Considerable work has been done in the past to estimate the capacity credit of WECS (wind electric conversion system) and several approaches have been proposed. This paper examines the influence of different parameters on the Capacity Credit using a simplified approach based on an effective forced outage rate (FOR) for WECS. The parameters considered are penetration level, amount and variability of load, generation configuration and wind regimes. Index Terms— Capacity Credit, Wind Electric Conversion System, Annual Load Duration Curve, Wind Penetration, Generation Configuration Electric power systems must have sufficient reserves so that generation is always adequate to meet varying customer demand. Because electricity demand cannot be known in advance with certainty, and also because generators, transmission lines and distribution systems can experience forced outages, a capacity margin requirement is necessary to maintain reliability [4]. Capacity Credit (CC) assigned to WECS is the fraction of its installed capacity by which conventional power generation...

Jovanovi´ , M. K. Stojˇ ev c c Abstract: This paper describes the architecture and performance of a high-resolution time–to– digital converter (TDC) based on a Vernier delay line. The TDC is used as a basic building block for time interval measurement in an ultrasonic liquid flowmeter. Operation of the TDC with 10ps LSB resolution and 1 ms input range has been simulated using library models for 1.2 µ m double–metal double–poly CMOS technology. The TDC operates at clock frequency of 200 MHz, and is composed of 500 delay–latch elements. The difference in delay between two chains, one for the start and the other for stop pulse, is controlled by the delay locked loop (DLL). Keywords: Time to digital conversion, Vernier delay line, DLL. 1 Introduction The precise measurement of the time interval between two events with very fine timing resolution is common challenge in the test and measurement instrumentation (logic analyzer, ATE system, nuclear instrumentation), industrial control (multichannel DAS, ultrasonic liquid flowmeters), electronic embedded control system (automotive controllers, medical devices avionics), etc. [1,2,3]. A time–to–digital converter (TDC) is one of the crucial building blocks installed into this type of equipment. High–resolution TDC is primarily used in application...

We propose that in an ES environment of easy information access, competitive success depends, in part, on the policies regulating enterprise information use. To explore this proposition, we examine the efficient use of different types of enterprise information in the realization of strategic performance. Efficient firms will devote fewer resources to information use to achieve the same strategic performance as less efficient firms. We employ data envelopment analysis (DEA) using data collected from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system adopters at two different points...

Cla Affect on Body Fat Mass

...anticarcinogenisis, antiatherogenesis, immune modulation and improved bone health. Conversely, human studies have not produced all of the aforementioned results. Nonetheless, there have been many human studies supporting a minimal but significant body fat reduction. These results have been mainly attained with a 50:50 mixture of cis-9, trans-11 and trans-10, cis-12 of purified CLA isomers at various doses. There is evidence indicating that a dose of 3.0g CLA/day may lead to fat loss, whereas the average Canadian consumes between 0.1-1.5 g CLA/day. Therefore, a supplement may be warranted in the future, once further research has been completed on the efficacy and safety of CLA supplementation. Implications to dietetic practice: Clinical dietitians involved in research should experiment with various doses and isomers, but they should particularly investigate the long-term implications of such supplementation. Community dietitians should teach community members how to select natural health products, avoiding inconclusive products like CLA. Administrative dietitians should continue to plan menus based on Canada’s Food Guide, while ignoring CLA claims. Recommendation: In terms of policy, natural health product regulations should be revised, where products sold in Canada...

Comparing the Quality Management Practices in Uk Smes

...(CRISSPE), Strathclyde Institute for Operations Management, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK Abstract Purpose – The last two decades have witnessed an explosion of research into the area of quality initiatives (QI) such as ISO, total quality management, lean, Kaizen and its application within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). However, very few empirical studies have reported the application of Six Sigma in SMEs; the reasons may be attributed to several myths associated with Six Sigma. The purpose of this paper is to assess the current status of QI in the UK manufacturing SMEs and report the differences in the quality management practices of Six Sigma SMEs against the ISO certified firms. Design/methodology/approach – A survey-based approach was adopted to understand the established quality management practices in the UK SMEs. A short survey instrument was designed by reviewing the literature on quality improvement initiatives in SMEs. A sample of 500 manufacturing SMEs across UK was selected through stratified random sampling technique. Findings – A response rate of 12.7 per cent was achieved and included respondents at senior management and middle management level across the manufacturing industry in the UK. Data analysis on the history of quality initiatives (QI) in SMEs indicated towards the trend that ISO may be the foundation or building block before embarking on lean or Six Sigma. Differences in quality...

Predictive Policing

...Term Paper: Predictive Policing Sherrell Hall Dr. Kaali Dass CIS-500: Information System Decision Making April 21, 2014 When one thinks of predictive policing, what does he or she think about? Some may think it’s a way for police officers to know of a crime that’s going to take place. Others may think a group of policeman will gather together and come up with predictions on what crime is going to take place next and where. While both statements are somewhat true, let’s take a look at what predictive policing is and compare and contrast the application of information technology to optimize police departments’ performance to reduce crime versus random patrols of the streets. We’ll also take a look at COMPSTAT, define it, and discuss the basic IS functions in addition to how it allows police departments to respond to crime faster. In addition to COMPSTAT and its functions, we’ll discuss the SWOT analysis. Part I: Compare and Contrast the application of information technology (IT) to optimize police departments’ performance to reduce crime versus random patrols of the streets. Predictive policing is “taking data from disparate sources, analyzing them and then using the results to anticipate, prevent, and respond more effectively to future crime” (Pearsall, 2010). In other words, predictive policing is analyzing all of the data from crimes and using it to predict when the next crime(s) will occur. This is proven to decrease the crime rate. For instance, in Santa Cruz,...
