...Riordan’s current training process consists of trainer(s) having to travel from one office to another office’s location. Upon arriving the trainer now needs to have a rental car and a hotel for the duration of the training. Depending on the amount of time that the trainer stays on site will also determine the amount of total expenses the trainer racks up relating to fuel for the car and food for the trainer. All of these expenses are completely paid for by Riordan and are devastating to the company’s budget. Training flows from trainer to employee directly. Only the group or offices with the trainer(s) visiting at that time receive the required information and that prevents all of Riordan’s employees from being on the same page at the same time. This can lead to inconsistencies with the day to day business processes the employees follow and could lead to costly mistakes made by a misinformed employee following old practices. The amount of time and money required for this process is simply too costly and with the IT systems available training like this just is not effective. All of this is illustrated by figure 1. Figure [ 1 ] The new process would require the removal of the trainer traveling to all the different locations all together. Instead any all training would be done through Skill soft as their primary training method and if needed Intercall would be used as an alternative method. Skill soft would provide the majority of the training and if any extra or more in...

...The Flow of Information CIS/207 Organizations today use information in more than ways than one can count. Information is so important today because it is used by organizations and businesses to keep everyday business processes and day-to-day operations running smooth and without glitches. As I have looked at many business and organizational sources both in person and on the internet, I have found that a large majority of these have the information flow start at the top in the executive area. This is what I like to call the trickle-down effect. Information is set to flow among the business and organization and starts at the top and goes all the way to the bottom. During that time, information can be changed to allow only that information that is needed in a certain department or area. If it wasn’t for the information that is provided by businesses and organizations, the business infrastructure as we know it can come to a screeching halt. Keeping that information moving and safe is one of the most important jobs in the business world today. The Freedom Mission Inc. is a not for profit organization that I have had the opportunity to work with and help build their network. Freedom Mission consists of many branches of mentorship programs including middle school at risk mentoring, drug and alcohol counseling, anger management, parenting, and also works with the community to help economically challenged families in the community. The way the information flow pattern is...

Cis207 - How Information Is Used and How It Flows in an Organization

...How Information Is Used and How It Flows In an Organization Student’s Name Class Title Due Date Instructor’s Name How Information Is Used and How It Flows In an Organization Information flows in different directions and different means: formally and informally, downward, upward and even horizontally through various levels. According to Opara, “information is the life blood of modern organizations” (Opara, 2003). Without “information”, organizations would most likely collapse as information is required to run the day-to-day doings of a business. Olowu states that “information entails data, facts, imaginations, ideas, opinions and cultural values in a variety of media which includes print, audio-visual materials and electronic processes” (Olowu, 2004). This shows how information flows within and between cultural groups. This represents an important part of “alternative conceptualization” (Nissen, 2002), which focuses on transaction (e.g. data to information, information to knowledge). This means data is necessary to produce information which, in turn, is necessary for creating knowledge that is conveyed (e.g. via paper, network, speech and observable action). And C.C. Aguolu feels that information is “the message of human experience” (Aguolu, 2002); rather, what is basically a stimulus assumes a response in the receiver, and possesses a response itself. This message can be made in any medium, in any language or in any subject. Some psychologists have even described...

Info Flow

...Organizational Information Flow Garrett Strack CIS207 May 14th, 2012 Bob Sanders Organizational Information Flow Usage Information within an organization can be used in many different ways in an organization. Information can be used to make critical decisions for businesses that can have a large impact. Decisions such as what raw materials to order, when to order them, and at what price are all decisions that must be made with accurate information in order to remain profitable. If such decisions are not made with credible information a company may find itself not making a profit. Also an organization must have valid information to determine a fair and marketable price for their finished good but yet also be able to clear any overhead cost’s such as shipping or storage. The must also take into account things like electricity, human resources, and any other cost’s associated with the manufacture of their product. All of these things require information to flow between the different business units of an organization. Flow An organization’s information generally flows in two directions, upstream and downstream. Decisions made at the upper management levels and trickling down to the lower level employees would be an example of downstream information flow. Many critical decisions are made by managers and executives on a daily base that affect the day to day functions of an organization. On the opposite side of that coin many of the decisions executive make are based...

Information Use

...Information Use Ngoc Le CIS207 November 24,2013 Karen L. Miles Information Use Information is used everyday to keep you updated with your personal and work settings. Information used in a business is extremely crucial to an organization because it can help your organization grow and improve with new strategies with the new information collected. Information flow is data that goes in 2 ways among managers and departments. Information can flow vertically meaning flowing up and down among managers and horizontally for information traveling through different departments. In many organizations information is extremely important because without data flowing in and out of departments and passing through different people you can have a successful organization. Each manager is in charge of a different part and each departments covers different things in order to complete the job. With information passing vertically and horizontally it keeps everyone updated with new data. The five most basic departments every organization would be accounting that helps keep track of all the financial parts of the business, Production will produce the product, Marketing will handle all advertisements and selling the product, human resource department helps find and hire new employees and last would be researching all products and discovering new things. There are three different management levels in most organizations, Supervisors, Middle management and then you have the top management. Supervisors...

Hurtarte' Business Requirements and IS Proposal Introduction Riordan Manufacturing is an international company that manufactures plastic. In 1991, Dr. Riordan, a chemistry professor, focused on processing polymers into strong plastic substrates. A year later he acquired a fan manufacturing plant in Pontiac, MI. After growth of the production of plastic containers, Riordan changed the company name to “Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. The company has four locations but research for Riordan Manufacturing Inc. takes place in San Jose, which is the corporate headquarters. One product developed by Riordan includes plastic beverage containers produced in Albany, Georgia. The organization has a need for both internal and external audits on a monthly basis. It is challenging to meet the terms of the new government reporting requisites. The current system is aging and requires constant manual intervention to update. Riordan Marketing

...Riordan Manufacturing – New System Proposal CIS207 – Week 3 John Korzeniowski Jennifer Schneider, Cory Schroeder, Theresa Bierek, Daniel Kaufman, Andrew Creamer Riordan Manufacturing – New Ssystem Proposal One of the business process changes that will need to be made is the change from the Satellite link, or WAN connection to the MPLS. How this process will need to take place is, first, to install the new hardware to make sure it is running steadily on a test basis - So, running it on, perhaps a test computer, or network first. Once the MPLS is proving to allow faster connection, without any glitches, making the switch would need to take place quickly as this will effectaffect how all offices within Riordan communicate with one another, and will effectaffect how all information is transferred between offices. The best time to do this would be a Friday evening when the office on the West coast closes. When the corporate headquarters closes, the tech team should come in to start working in the evening. This will allow for extra time to set things up over the weekend should there be any glitches, so that it does not interrupt standard working hours for the U.S. offices. Considering Friday night is when the switch would start, the office in China would also have already been closed for many hours, so it would not interrupt their working hours either. Each office would also have to have a team of tech workers there to update their systems to connect...

Ethical Issues Facing It Pros

...Ethical Issues Facing IT Professionals Kimon Wherley CIS207 February 8, 2016 Charles Jacks Ethical Issues Facing IT Professionals There are many unique challenges we face in this day, and age of information. Information is the means through which the mind expands and increases its capacity to achieve its goals, often as the result of an input from another mind. Thus, information forms the intellectual capital from which human beings construct their lives and secure dignity. However, the building of intellectual capital is vulnerable in many ways. For example, people's intellectual capital is impaired whenever they lose their personal information without being compensated for it, when they are precluded access to information, which is of value to them, when they have revealed information they hold intimate, or when they find out that the information upon which their living depends is in error. The social contract among people in the information age must deal with these threats to human dignity. The ethical issues involved are many and varied. (Richard O. Mason March, 1986) Some of the ethical issues facing IT professionals are Privacy, Accuracy, Property, and Access. Privacy What information should one be required to divulge about one's self to others? Under what conditions? What information should one be able to keep strictly to one's self? These are among the questions that a concern for privacy raises. Today more than ever cautious citizens must be asking these questions...

...Service Request SR-RM-001 Paper CIS207 April 5, 2012 David J. Henry Service Request SR-RM-001 Riordan Manufacturing Company presents itself as a solutions provider of polymer materials. As with any large organization, oftentimes business executives seek the consult of external subject matter experts to help companies operate more efficiently. Riordan recently solicited the SHWS Consulting Group and its constituents to review Riordan’s current inventory and manufacturing systems and processes. After spending several weeks with Riordan and visiting each site, the consultants recognized opportunities to improve key areas of the company’s systems supporting its inventory and manufacturing process. Executive Summary SHWS Consultants met with Riordan Manufacturing to discuss the details of Riordan’s inventory and manufacturing processes. Riordan believes the company should reassess and possibly upgrade its existing inventory systems. The firm’s executives agree that re-evaluating the computer systems could grow revenue and drastically reduce or eliminate the opportunities for human errors in receiving, tracking, and managing inventory. Upgrading the systems also simplifies employees’ jobs, which directly affects morale and can lead to increased productivity. During the initial meeting to clarify and set Riordan’s expectations, SHWS Consultants agreed to provide Riordan documentation indicating the business processes needing improvement and the specified...

Riordan Finance and Accounting Process Improvement Proposal Cis/207

...Riordan Finance and Accounting Process Improvement Proposal CIS/207 December 04, 2012 Executive Summary Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is composed of three primary facilities in the United States, with locations in Georgia, Michigan, and California. Headquarters is located in San Jose, California. In addition to the core entities, Riordan Manufacturing has a joint business venture located in Hangzou, China. Investigation into the company’s operating procedures and expenses revealed several shortfalls requiring immediate attention. The implementation of a streamlined Enterprise Resource Plan (ERP) and Electronic Database Interchange (EDI) is expected to reduce operational costs by 10% while improving cycle time by 15%. The finance and accounting departments are struggling with their existing record keeping and database configuration. The resources identified at each facility are made up of disparate and antiquated equipment. Current operations for the consolidated close of the General Ledger are completed, at a minimum, 15-20 days past deadline. Additionally, the current system adds unnecessary administrative costs for personnel re-adding documents that are manually written or not compatible with HQ IT systems. Monthly audits are daunting, costly, and labor intensive. Additionally, there is an immediate need for government compliance to meet the specific demands of that customer base. The entire financial and accounting focus can benefit greatly and exceed current...
