Classical conditions

The classical conditioning experiment conducted by Pavlov goes as follows: A dog is hooked to a mechanism that measures the amount that the dog salivates. A tone is sounded just before a dog is given meat powder. This occurs several times. Eventually, conditioning occurs in that the dog salivates just to the bell alone. Of course, the dog salivates instinctively in response to the food, but "learns" to salivate to the sound of the bell, much as you might find your mouth watering at the site, smell, or even memory of your favorite food. Pavlov used this relatively simple experiment as a model for describing much of the automatic/nonconscious learning that occurs in everyday life. In any case where you have “learned” to respond automatically to some sort of stimulus with fear, joy, excitement, or anticipation you have become classically conditioned.

My classical condition started when I took my family to ride the incredible hulk roller coaster in universal studios, Orlando Florida amusement park. I had always wondered what it would be like to ride that roller coaster. You haven't truly lived until you've experienced The Incredible Hulk's wild and unique uphill launch. The effect is like being trapped inside an airplane that’s flying out of control. Quickly accelerating uphill defies logic, and feels both exhilarating and terrifying. It is not for the faint of heart, this coaster is both terrifying and exhilarating. It is located near the front entrance of the park. Every time I go there and enter the gates I begin to get a nervous but exhilarating feeling as I got closer to the ride, the anticipation to get strapped in and start the ride becomes unbearable. I could sense the fear as I wait in line to experience the thrill from the excitement of the ride. This happens every time we have gone to universal studios. That became one of my favorite and memorable classical conditions.
Operant condition

Operant conditioning is the process of learning behavioral patterns which are based on certain stimuli from the environment. Such that external stimuli lead to certain behavior. A human being knows the kind of consequences that a particular behavior will lead to and therefore, to either encourage or discourage that consequence, he will behave in a particular way. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/operant-conditioning-examples.html In Erik Erikson stages of psychosocial development, there are eight distinct stages of development with each element in every stage representing either positive or negative outcome. These are the issues stage that starts with Trust versus Mistrust, Autonomy versus Shame, initiative versus guilt, competence versus Inferiority, Identity versus Role confusion, Intimacy versus Isolation, Generativity versus Stagnation and Integrity versus Despair. The childhood stages cover up to the five stages from birth up to 18 years of age. This is the period when children are attending school and are considered in the learning stages. When young students follow the learning guide lines of their studies, there is either success or failures which can only be identified by their parents, guardians, fellow students or teachers. This paper will discuss the effects of not praising the success in such young students.
The last three is emerging into adulthood, maturity comes and young adults would be ready to assume responsibility. Adulthood can mean working, marriage, and having children. In the United States, the average age at first marriage has increased more than four years since 1960(to 28 for men, and 26 for women). In 1960, 3 in 4 women and 2 in 3 men had by the age of 30 finished school left home and became financially independent. The article also mentions delayed independence has overlapped with an earlier onset of puberty and earlier maturity lead to sexual desires. As the stage of life continues, people will reach middle age life that tends to bring on another dissatisfying era we call middle crises. Midlife crisis can be described as the emotional upheaval or behavioral changes that occur in some individuals between the ages of thirty-five and fifty. The fact that many scientific studies could not validate its existence makes its reality doubtful. Carl Jung and Erik Erikson, celebrated psychologists of the last century did not say anything categorical about this entity thereby casting doubt about its existence. Anthropological studies had failed to establish the occurrence of this entity in Asian countries like Japan and India; making it look more like a problem of cultures that celebrate youth and so lament the transition from youth to old age through behavioral changes that are akin to “withdrawal reactions” to all that youth stands for.

Conclusion: After this review I conclude that what we feel will dictate how we behave, and our behavior will be a direct reflection of what we feel.

...Even though I don’t think I have a disorder I’m pretty conscious with the fact that I do have a fear of failure. In fact, when it comes to perfectionism, I end up spending more time on the final presentation and every little detail rather than focus on the excellence of a project.
