Unit 9 Journal Entry

This journal entry will complete the last of what I consider to be major assignments within the CM107 class. It has been a long and rewarding journey, that looking back went by very quickly. I am pleased that a chapter in my requirements is closing, and at the same time I am a bit sad that the class is over. Without further ado, it’s time to answer the requirements of this journal entry. The first question about what I see writing on the job is almost an unfair slow pitch over home plate. I say this because I am currently in my chosen career and I am already responsible for writing memorandums related to ladder company tactics, information technology systems, and personnel issues within the fire department. The first and the easiest is that I use memo templates that takes a lot of the formatting out of the equation and it gives the readers a familiar document from which to start. I also try to always ask who is the audience and to write to a level that they will be comfortable reading both in language and in nomenclature. It is important to maintain a familiar format and to use words that do not require readers to be referring to a dictionary multiple times throughout their reading of the email or the document. By following these simple steps and using the knowledge I have gained from this class, I now feel much more comfortable putting out internal communications be it email or be it a paper document. As I progress in my career, I see a time where I may have to release external documents such as build specifications for equipment or even public press releases. This class has given me the basic tools that I can scale up to meet most of the foreseeable challenges that lay ahead in my career.
