The Concept we have chosen is International Organisation for Standardization (ISO). It is the world’s largest developer of international standards and help in facilitating world trade by providing common standards between nations. These standards ensures that product and services are safe, reliable, and of good quality and that proper processes have been followed in their development.

ISO certifications have many benefits for the business, government and society which are as follows: * Optimized operations for business which will result in cost savings. * Improved quality of the products. * Overcome trade barriers * Reduced negative impact on the environment. * Restored faith in use of the product if ISO certified * They are internationally adopted and can up the world trade.

The Coca-Cola Company on a global level have the following common ISO Certifications. * ISO 9001:2008 * ISO 14001:2004 * ISO 22000:2005

The above mentioned ISO certifications are the Common certifications of each of the Coca-Cola plant around the world. Coca-Cola is taking up other certifications as well which are plant specific and country specific with bringing in more technology for energy management. Below is the brief description of the ISO certification that Coca-Cola is currently certified with.

* ISO 9001:2008 – this is a quality management certification which certifies that the organizations are using quality processes for their manufacturing with a strong customer focus and motivation to continually improve its quality management process. An ISO 9001:2008 certified company means that the company has quality operations with a good focus on constantly improving the quality of their processes.

* ISO 14001:2004 – The ISO 14000 series deals with the environmental management practices. A company uses society’s resources and should take up the environmental friendly processes for its manufacturing. ISO 14001:2004 sets up the guidelines that companies can follow to set up environmental management system. This standard provides assurance to the people involves that the environmental impact is minimal and is being measured and improved.

* ISO 22000:2005 – ISO 22000 series deals with the food safety management systems. This standard specifies the requirements for the certification where organizations need to show that they can control the food safety hazards so that the food is safe at the time of consumption.

Coca-Cola is one of the most well-known company around the world offering the consumers with different variety of products. As the business operate in a dynamic environment where new technology, new technology standards, new service standards are being bought to give the consumers an enhanced experience and utility, it is an challenge for Coca-Cola to meet up with those standards on a continuous basis. Coca-Cola operates across the world having its bottling plants spread all over the world. It is a challenge for them to optimize the operations of each of the plant so that they can become ISO certified. In the future the company will be aiming for ISO 50001 as well which deals with energy management. Coca-Cola uses a large amount of water so it will remain a challenge for them to optimize their operations by reducing the amount of water per beverage produced which will comply with ISO 14001:2004.
As the resources are depleting the energy management becomes the need of the hour. Coca-Cola will be aiming for ISO 50001 certification with energy efficient operations in its bottling plant. It will have to optimize operations to accommodate for such certifications which poses a risk for them as well, as it will involve a lot of investment in new research and development and new technology to be implemented in the bottling plants. The consumers today are also becoming environmentally aware and they also acknowledge the fact that the company should take all means to reduce the impact on environment and energy. Also, Coca-Cola will be building a good reputation for them with such certifications and its products will be admired as they will have all the certifications which makes there product desirable.
The company has geographic and worldwide rivals. In order to compete with them Coca-Cola have to maintain the highest standards so that its brand is much more favourable. Pepsi Co is one of the direct competitors of Coca-Cola and pose a great threat to Coca-Cola market share. Coca-Cola in terms of ISO should look for an integrated approach in order to have an edge over its competition.
The company needs for the future is an integrated ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000 and ISO 50001.
