The NASW Code of Ethics is intended to serve as a guide to the everyday professional conduct of social workers. This Code includes four sections. The first Section, "Preamble," summarizes the social work profession's mission and core values. The second section, "Purpose of the NASW Code of Ethics," provides an overview of the Code's main functions and a brief guide for dealing with ethical issues or dilemmas in social work practice. The third section, "Ethical Principles," presents broad ethical principles based on social work's core values that inform social work practice. The final section, "Ethical Standards," includes specific ethical standards to guide social workers' conduct, and to provide a basis for adjudication.
The Code identifies core values on which social work's mission is based, summarizes ethical principles that reflect the profession's core values, establishes a set of specific ethical standards that guide social work practice, and provides the basis on which the public can hold a practitioner accountable. Here I will provide a summary of principles. Social worker's primary goal is to help people in need and to address social problems. Social workers challenge social injustice. Social workers respect the inherent dignity and worth of the person. Social workers recognize the central importance of human relationships. Social workers behave in a trustworthy manner. ...Values and Code of Ethics for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Organizations This document was drafted by a special taskforce of the INDEPENDENT SECTOR Ethics and Accountability Committee, distributed to IS members for review over a four-month period from October 2003 through January 2004, and approved by the IS Board of Directors on January 29, 2004. It constitutes the Statement of Values and Code of Ethics that IS will use for its own work. In addition, the Board of Directors of IS encourages IS members, and the field as a whole, to use this document in either drafting and adopting your own statement of values and code of ethics or, for those who have already done so, reviewing and revising, as necessary, your statement of values and code of ethics. As stated within, IS believes that each and every organization in the independent sector should have a code of ethics. IS firmly believes that the process by which a code is adopted is as important as the code itself, and that the board and staff should be involved in developing, drafting, adopting, and implementing a statement that fits Covenant Partners’s unique characteristics. Going through this process with the board and staff also begins to infuse into the culture of Covenant Partners a recognition of how important it is to address issues of values and ethics on an ongoing basis. We encourage all organizations to set aside time in your board meeting or at a retreat to discuss in detail all aspects of an ethical code—and be sure...

...Code of Ethics A written code of ethics is the cornerstone of any formal ethics program. (Kelly, McGowen, Williams, 2014, p. 263) It gives employees a basis for making correct decisions. The universal ethical standards say that ethics are based on the moral standards of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Board members and employees are expected to abide by the policies and procedures regarding standards of conduct set forth in the respective documents. (Cheesecake Factory Code of ethics, 2006, p. 1) So in essence a code of ethics is showing what the company feels that an employee should and shouldn’t do. A Code of Ethics cannot possibly contemplate every possible situation, so they make sure to add that employees need to use good judgment. In order to maintain an ethical standing, employees should be trained in how to react to certain situations. Conflict of Interest is the largest section noted in Cheesecake Factory’s code of ethics. I believe that they spent the most time on this because it is very important to the business. If employees don’t follow the code of ethics then the company would fall apart. Things such as insider trading, accepting valuable gifts, and inter office relationships, often devastate businesses. People being left to govern themselves often fall to destructive tendencies. Sarbanes-Oxley limited conflict of interest by confining the consulting services that a company can use (Kelly, McGowen, Williams, 2014, p. 267) One other subheading...

...As a founder in a management consulting firm that caters to non profits, the development of a Code of Ethics became an integral part of our company’s foundation. It is in the best interest of both “for profit” and “nonprofit” businesses to create a Code of Ethics. A Code of Ethics will establish guidelines to management, employees and stake holders. These “rules of conduct” implement organizational structure that will encourage management and employee to embrace loyalty and accountability. This in turn creates mutually beneficial good faith practices as it pertains to its stakeholders. While “nonprofit “companies often obtain their funds from government agencies, they are not without the usual considerations as it pertains to the bottom line. Both “for profit” and “non profit” organizations must balance the scales of fiscal and ethical responsibility. A crucial part of our firm’s success lies in our ability to balance those scales on behalf of our firm’s team and the non profits that we serve. A Code of Ethics for our consulting firm will require all of its associates and management to maintain the highest level of integrity when dealing with each other, security holders, customers and others whom the company conducts business with. For example, deceptive business practices may harm a company's standing in the community, decrease employee productivity, reduce customer loyalty, build resentment among employees, increase the likelihood of further unethical behavior by employees, and cause scrutiny by government agencies. These guidelines make sure that everyone in this profession knows what is right and what is wrong in this line of work. A code of ethics also helps to set a standard for the business or company you are working for. Having a code of ethics for this field of work is very beneficial. As a radiologic technologist you are delivering patient care. It is very important to have an ethical behavior guideline when taking care of patients. Patients all have a professional standard they uphold when dealing with medical care. If employees don’t have a guideline of value-based principles or practices than the patient isn’t receiving their right to professional quality radiologic technology care. A code of ethics is also beneficial when it comes to legal aspects. Having a code of ethics for a company helps limit their legal liability from improper employee behavior. ...Code of Ethics One word: Enron. Most people that follow business know that corporation’s name. In November, 2001 the company admitted to using faulty accounting that had inflated income figures over a four year period of $586 million and a month later the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy (Maxwell, 2003, p. 1). Enron’s executives were not following a code of ethics designed to help protect against dishonest business practices and unethical principles. Following good common sense and treating others the way that you would want to be treated is good ethical behavior. Ethics, however, always comes down to being a personal choice and making the decision to do what is right, instead of what is wrong. A code of ethics can provide direction for a company on how the company plans to direct and implement its vision and the best way for the employees to help enable that vision.
