Overview of Main Points: The process of making coffee starts on plantations that grow coffee bushes, and in the end, it ends up as a delicious beverage. Today I want to tell you about planting, harvesting, and processing coffee beans. (show coffee life cycle photo on slide)

Processing the coffee is slightly less laboring than the picking but really not by too much. There are also two different ways to process the coffee beans, the dry method and the wet method A. The dry method of processing coffee is mostly called the natural method and it involves drying the entire cherry before separating it from the bean. To do this cherries are laid out on a mat and raked to turn them over every few hours. The cherries sun dry and after they are dried, which can often take weeks, the outside is husked off of the bean. The bean then continues to be polished, with the end result being a beautiful and shiny coffee bean. B. The wet method of processing uses water and chemicals to separate the outside fruit from the cherry before the husking and hulling/ drying begins. Even though this method still involves some drying the bulk of the work is accomplished by a machine and chemicals. Even though this method is less work it is not as popular a method because it requires more water than is readily available in some of the drier climates.
