Cole suggests that the American government should reduce certain services provided only to American citizens and not to the immigrants that are considered illegitimate. For instance, aliens should only be provided some type of healthcare and education for school age children. He claims that these services should be provided in order to protect the United States from issues further in the future. If healthcare was declined to those who live in the U.S undocumented, then America could eventually be at risk for certain diseases that may not have been treated because they were not able to receive treatment. We have to be considerate of the fact that immigrants may not be here in a legal bind but they are still here physically and we make contact with them on frequent basis. In my opinion, I believe that that the state of California should be responsible for enforcing immigrant laws but not for the financial burden of having illegal immigrants. The federal government should be responsible for the funding of the immigrant who have made America their new home. Ultimately immigration is not just California’s issue, granted that they may have more than a state that doesn’t surround other countries, but it is America’s problem. Therefore, the Federal government should handle all of the costs of hosting immigrants no matter the cost.

Cole, Question 7 In the fifteenth paragraph Cole argues that “culture separatism rarely survives a generation.” He supports his argument by saying that cultures have formed America due to the fact that most all Americans’ ancestors were once immigrants. He mentions that President Kennedy and his family were had an Irish background and once ran the United States. Irish Catholics were not accepted in America when they first migrated because most of them could not speak the English language and also did not have the skills needed to cultivate

Initech

...Case Study #2 Like every company Initech has a matrix organization starting with the CEO, regional managers, and according to peter 8 managers. When the workers like Peter work their butts off they do not get any of reward for it but the company gets to sell more units. There is no motivation so he just doesn’t care about. Peter feels his only “motivation is not to be hassled” by the eight bosses when he makes a mistake. In another situation, Bill Lumbergh the manager did not tell his employee Milton Waddams that he got laid off five years ago but still got a paycheck. The consultants hired by the company, which no employee knew about, to layoff people just went and fixed the glitch in accounting that allowed him to get his paychecks. Based on these issues, the core issue in the communication that Lumbergh has with his employees. His inability to be clear with Waddams causes the company a five-year salary cost and fails to communicate with the employee, demonstration a lack of importance to their well being. Communication in organizations is the way information is passed on and understood between groups of people. Messages are formed, encoded and sent. Noise makes the message sent questionable it the receiver was actually listening. The lack of motivation affects how good the responses are between two or more people. Legitimate Power can be used for either good or bad, just like any other power. Legitimate power entitles the person to give others orders as the person has...

Human Resource Analysis of the Office Space Movie

...Reframing at the Movies: Office Space The movie Office Space, examines and critiques various organizational practices in our society. It is a story about work life and the effects of bad management on the morale of the workers. It is set in a high-tech company and the central character is a technical professional in the organization who has no motivation or passion for his job. Pete works at Initech, a software company. His job consists of sitting in a cubicle crunching numbers all day long, which is enough to make anyone go crazy. Office Space depicts an oppressing, unsatisfactory view of the working world in an attempt to demonstrate unhealthy and ineffective practices that many businesses and organizations utilize. While many elements in Office Space are ridiculous and exaggerated, many ring true with experiences shared by anyone who has worked in a managed organization. By presenting the daily horrors that such organizations can create, the film serves as an ideal of what a successful organization ought to avoid. In the movie, power is extremely centralized at Initech with Bill Lumbergh at the top of the ladder. The employees work in tiny cubicles that block their view of the windows, thereby eliminating outside distractions. The copy machine never works, their supplies (i.e. the staplers) are constantly being replaced with lesser-quality brands, and poor Milton is repeatedly forced to move desks, eventually ending up in the basement alongside the cockroaches. Furthermore...

Essay on Business Management

...1. How does the organization achieve “compliance” from its members? As our organisation is unionised, it is harder for managers to receive positive compliance from it’s employees as the reward power is minimized. Due to the unionization, decisions about promotions and giving raises are not allowed to be made by supervisors and managers. This restricts the amount of control the managers have over the compliance of its employees. However, I believe that my organization still exploits some power over the interest of my team members. One attempt of my supervisor’s to keep compliance amongst our ‘team’ is to reward hard work with a ‘party halfa’ once every month. This included half an hour out of one shift every month dedicated to “pigging out” on party food including lollies, chips, cake and coke etc. We did not receive the “party halfa” if we do not meet the packing standards. Everyone knew each individual had to perform to the standard and not have any one team member let the rest down and therefore increasing productivity and establishing compliance. As shown above, my fellow employees are referred to by our supervisors and managers not as employees or staff, but a ‘team’ which symbolises this reality that we should operate not only for our own individual gain, but also the gain of the individuals in that team. Another act of compliance can be implemented by coercive power. This example is a more subtle version of coercive power; the threat from the supervisor to stay back...

Reasons Why Parents Should Read Aloud with Children

...Reasons Why Parents Should Read Aloud to Children By: Corazon B. Addatu Cataggaman Viejo, Tuguegarao City One of the greatest gifts that a parent can bestow upon a child is the gift of literacy. Reading is a wonderful pastime, and the key to unlocking many academic puzzles. Parents should read aloud to children as part of a regular routine, one that can be thoroughly enjoyed by both parties. Firstly, reading aloud to children poses the benefit of being quality time spent together. Parents need to have special time with their children, and reading to them is a great method for achieving this goal. Instead of plunking the children down in front of the television, sit them down on your lap and open up a book. As you begin to read to your children, marvel at their attention to detail, and use every opportunity to test their memory and knowledge. While reading, stop frequently and relate the story to an aspect of their everyday life. This will help them to see the correlation between themselves and their environment. While you are enjoying the quality time with your children as you read aloud, you will also be fostering a love of reading that transcends boundaries. Learning to love books at a young age will enhance the children’s desire to be an avid reader as they mature. A love of literature can take a child to unfathomable heights, allowing them to soar to faraway lands of make believe. Children that are read aloud to may use their creativity and imagination more often...

Reading Attitudes of Students

...it is how you handle what happens to you. Even if a lot of challenges were given to men, this does not define one’s final outcome. It was one’s attitude towards the challenge that predicted and established their future. However, not all people nowadays knew how to face properly each circumstance offered by life and thus ended in catastrophic situations. This same problem is faced by students of the present generation especially in their academics wherein reading is mostly valuable. This study was concerned with the decline of the students engaging in reading. How did they acquired knowledge and information? What were their approaches in acquiring knowledge? Did they really understand what they had recently gathered? Reading is not only confined in the four walls of classrooms but more importantly used in different jobs and professions. Reading, together with writing was a useful tool in communication from the time of the ancient Egyptians and Chinese. In the age of the Internet and information technologies, reading retains its importance as an essential skill for learners of any language (Gokhan, 2012). It was an undeniable fact at this present time. In order to sustain and improve these internet and technologies, one of the most important tools of the developers was their ability to read. Even though the generation was going away from the traditional pages of books,...

Asher B. Durand Painting

...To Delineate Painting from Poem: Asher B. Durand’s Landscape—A Scene from “Thanatopsis” American cultural movements intertwine all aspects of the nation’s society: art, literature and architecture, philosophy and music—particularly the former two. Art and literature are constantly entwined, exemplifying one another and their own fields. Regarding American cultural movements, such as American Romanticism, significant individuals become familiar with one another’s work, resulting in inspiration that leads to creative works that pay homage to another artist’s work. Asher B. Durand’s Landscape—A Scene from “Thanatopsis,” inspired by Romantic poet William Cullen Bryant, exemplifies artist familiarity that results in multifaceted cultural creations. Both Bryant and Durand hail from the American Romantic movement, which emphasized nature as a source of refuge and rest, knowledge, and religious revelation. The painting has yet to be investigated beyond a visualization of Bryant’s work, illustrated by many reviews contemporary of 1850 as well as current scholarship. A deeper exploration of Durand’s work provides insight regarding prevalent creative themes of the current world of arts, as well as a look into Durand’s most honest inspiration as an artist. Though creating separate works—that must remain distinguishable for proper analysis of either work—Bryant and Durand investigated the themes of man and nature, individualism and the inner and after lives. Through detailing natural...
