Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper

The correct way of working effectively in a group is having the ability to

appreciate and understand all of the team member’s learning style and personality type. This

paper relates to communicating and collaboration methods for team members with Logical,

Bodily, and Visual learning styles and with Thinker, Organizer, and Adventurer personality

types. Systems for communicating and collaborating effectively with a group of people with

different learning styles may differ, and here are some examples; Logical learners have the skill

of reasoning the information that is learned. They have the ability to absorb information by

analyzing and organizing the material.

Bodily learning is when someone is hands-on in the communication and collaboration of

an activity such as building, sketching, and getting their hands involved. They can provide

excellent hands on support and communication skills. Visual learners have the skill to achieve

their best results by utilizing visual aids. The communication for a Visual learning style is to

prepare a flowchart or graphs that can show each member of the team the work needs to be

completed within a week, a month, or a year. Each of these three learning styles have their own

way of communicating and bringing their own way of working into a team environment. It's

really important to determine the learning style of each team member to have a better feel for

how the team is going to work and to know how each member can be helpful in the completion

of a project.

Someone that has a Thinker personality type is most likely to solve problems on their

own, goes beyond regular standards, and explores ideas and possibilities. The strategies and

communications that a Thinker personality can give to a team is to learn through problem

solving, design new ideas, and look for opportunities to simplify work. A person with Organizer

personality is a responsible, reliable, and loyal person who provides neatness and organization to

a team. An Organizer personality can provide the skills to a team of defining a clear idea using

solid terms so that everyone in the team can relate and understand. They will also request

feedback on assignments from team members. The use of a planner to schedule dates for team

work will be very helpful for everyone on the team, especially an Organizer.

The Adventurer type personality is impulsive,competitive, and open minded.

They could bring out the potential from others within the team due to their fast paced and

imaginative minds . The skills that a Adventurer type personality can provide to a team is that it

can quickly recognize how the team dynamic is functioning and make suggestions to improve if

necessary. These are some of the many ways that the different learning styles and personality

types can communicate and collaborate within a team.

...When collaborating with another individual, especially if they are not in the same department, it is important to make sure that both parties are using the same tools and programs. (Collaboration, 2009) For example, if one person uses Microsoft Works and the other uses Microsoft 7 or an individual uses a spreadsheet to report the company’s financials over time and the other uses accounting software reports, It can essentially delay a project and create inconsistencies. Come to an agreement on the programs and tools to be used for the project initially. Many projects are expected to be completed by an assigned date. Follow up after the initial meeting is important. It is important to identify any hurdles early. This follow up meetings’ agenda should include discussions on updates and statuses on the project as well as address any concerns each team member may have. Keep these meetings short and to the point. It is extremely important to set a pre-deadline deadline. Pre-deadlines help determine if the others require help before zero barrier is reached. Thankfully our collaborative relationships with other departments help to expedite information we need in order to finish the project. It’s always a good thing to have friends in the right places.
