As I read Kelley and Littman’s The Ten Faces of Innovation (2005), I felt confident that I would identify with the Caregiver Persona. I am a nurse and consequently, have spent an inordinate amount of time at the bedside of sick patients. However, it surprised me to learn the role I am most comfortable with is actually the Collaborator. Collaborators are team builders; they are comfortable leading from the middle to create the solutions required. Collaborators work to coax us out of our silos to achieve needed results (Kelley & Littman, 2005). Embracing the Collaborator Persona is vital in my current role with Imagine Perfect Care. Our objective is to break down the silos in our organization, focus on improving the patient experience, and promote innovation that leads to improved care. We have created a connector network with representation from throughout the organization. The goal of the connector network is to share ideas and accomplishments that are being done while supporting the generation of new ideas. Catmull and Wallace (2014) in Creativity, INC., state that, “If you give a good idea to a mediocre team, they will screw it up. If you give a mediocre idea to a brilliant team, they will either fix it or throw it away and come up with something better….Getting the team right is the necessary precursor to getting the ideas right” …show more content…
When the author stated, “Now, here’s a sweet job. All these bright people with Ph.Ds. have to do is watch people” (Kelly and Littman, 2005, p. 16), I realized that I do not recognize the value in Human Factors and the Anthropologist Persona. However, in reading more about this persona, I appreciate that it is my lack of experience and understanding that is the problem. My challenge with the Anthropologist Persona is patience.
