College Cost being affordable to all
One of the most important pieces to becoming a triumphant business woman/man may be receiving ‘college education’. A college degree may be perceived to be a necessity and may be slowly becoming an unreachable ambition for a number of people. Most consider college cost to have been rising and that the increasing rate may be outpacing that of most other costs. At the same time as the cost of college increases, families may have to alter their way of living to be providential enough to take their kids to most colleges. Alongside with how families’ lives vary, countless other problems may be produced in a variety of ways. The college cost ought to be lowered for the reason that it compels a heavy burden to both the children and parents, causing some students to change their preference of the college to go to, and puts off some students from even attending college. Ensuring the cost of college is kept at an affordable level will open wide-spread educational opportunities to those otherwise unable to attend institutes of higher learning.
It may be unclear to what the literal reason may be, for the continued rising of college tuition rates, or the reason why tuition rates may be rising higher and faster than the rates of inflation. So as to establish the cause of rising cost of college, it may be important to study a number of aspects that may be tied into the cost of college increasing. The problem may be clear; owing to colleges raising their tuition rates, every year, at a very alarming rate (roughly 7%); numerous high school learners who may be looking further to purse a higher education may not have the ability to do so. Moreover, given that they find means to finance this debt, they may be faced with the veracity of the rates of interest of the private student loans offered to them. Even more

...Worth It? The cost of tuition for higher education is quickly rising. Over half of college freshmen show some concern with how to pay for college. This is the highest this number has been since 1971 (S. Chan and Kim Chan). The amount of college graduate debt has been rapidly increasing also. With limited jobs available because of the high unemployment rate, college graduates find themselves staying in debt even longer. However, grants and financial aid are available to students, but students still struggle to pay for their college tuition. Although some claim that higher education is still affordable, higher education costs too much because the state’s revenue is low, the unemployment rate is high, and graduates cannot pay off loans. One reason that higher education is not affordable is that the states’ revenue is low and the states are in debt. Because of their decreasing tax revenues, many states need to make cuts in their budget. As a result of this, tuition is rising and other changes are happening throughout colleges. Some of these changes include: higher student to faculty ratios, less but larger classes, and fewer on-campus jobs that normally support students (Scaliger). These changes affect students and impact their view and decisions of certain colleges. The tuition rate has also “been rising at about 6 percent a year for most of the past ten years” (S. Chan and Kim Chan). This percent inevitably makes it harder for students to find an affordable college. High tuition...

...ONLINE EDUCATION FOR NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS Student Name English Composition II July 31, 2014 Unlike the typical college freshman attending the university of their dreams immediately after high school, the college experience for the non-traditional student is quite different. Most non-traditional students are not attending college immediately after high school, they are returning students who have not finished their college education, or they may be full-time working adults or parents who are trying to obtain their education around their already busy schedules. Students of this type need to have alternate paths to choose from which will allow them to meet their other obligations and needs first. These types of students need to be able to balance their personal lives while also being able to successfully reach their ultimate goal, obtaining a college degree. These types of students will likely take a different approach than attending a brick and mortar school. While some students require the more traditional university experience, research shows that an online education is often better suited for the non-traditional student because it is more flexible and convenient, affordable, and can offer a high quality education. An online education is a more flexible and convenient learning format to choose from when compared to the traditional university experience. This benefits non-traditional students because many of them are working adults who need the convenience and...

The Importance Of College Tuition

...Over 83% of the American population cannot afford college tuition, because college remains an unaffordable and unattainable goal for most of the population. Being in high school, we always talk about how important college is, but is it important enough to take four years out of someone’s life and spend and average of one hundred thousand dollars for a four year degree? Studies have shown that people who get a college degree get higher paying jobs, than those who just have a high school diploma. Which means college should not only be important to the entire country, but a necessity that needs to be more affordable to the general population. Being the first generation in my family to go to college it is not only a dream of mine, but of my entire...

...Hays RHET 105 February 28, 2016 An Annotated Bibliography: “The benefits of a college degree does not outweigh the cost of it” Abel, Jaison R., and Richard Deitz. "Do The Benefits Of College Still Outweigh The Costs?." Current Issues In Economics & Finance 20.3 (2014): 1-12. Academic Search Complete. Web. 6 Mar. 2016. People who graduated with a college degree still questions whether college was a good investment for them. “Do the Benefits of College Still Outweigh the Costs?” addresses how students who graduated with a college degree are still unemployed and in debt. Furthermore, students have paid more to attend college and earning less upon graduation. This academic journal compares both the pros and cons of attending college. It contains graphs and illustrations that contribute more data about increasing tuition and how it affects your decision about whether to attend college. “The total costs to attend a 4-year college outweighs some people’s home value.” I thought this quote summarizes the academic journal very briefly. “Do the Benefits of College Still Outweigh the Costs?” is a scholarly source and an academic journal. The data in it is really reliable for my research paper. It contains graphs and illustrations which could be used to make conclusions. This academic journal is more biased towards the people who believe that the benefits of college do not outweigh the costs. I could potentially use this source to support my thesis more efficiently. Higher Education Affordability

...Baker College Higher Education Affordability Earning a higher education yields a much larger total salary throughout life than those with a high school diploma or equivalent. However the cost of college has been increasing at a pretty ludicrous rate in the past thirty years in the United States. How are students to afford these ever skyrocketing costs to earn degrees and have the possibility of a more successful life? This problem begins in the history of higher education, therein are the causes that made the price inflate. This increase in cost makes it very difficult for people of low income to attain a degree of higher education. This in turn can have a lasting effect on the economy. Understanding all of this leads to two solutions. First, the government must take action to make this education more affordable, on way they might do this is by reducing their defense spending. Second, the people themselves can take steps to make higher education more affordable for themselves if they are in a situation where higher education is not very affordable to them. First we must first look at the history of higher education in the U.S. and the things going on around it at certain times that had some effects on it. Higher Education in the U.S. really began in the colonial era. The first colleges were set up by religious groups to train ministers. These colleges were modeled after colleges like Cambridge and Oxford in England. Harvard being one of the first founded colleges in the...

...Debate Discussion: Is the Cost of College to High BCOM/275 Debate Discussion: Is the Cost of College to High A college degree is found to be necessary in today's society to obtain a good paying job. Employers believe that it doesn't just provide you with the education needed but makes you a better person through the experience. With the increase cost of college, financing ones education has become a struggle. Although there are many scholarships and grants for students to apply for, they can be difficult to obtain. The idea of paying back possibly thousands of dollars in student loan debit can also be a scary for most. Especially for millions at a time when families income are hurting. Cost of College Increasing The average cost is higher at higher colleges "the average debate in 2011 was $23,300, with 10 percent owing more than $54,000 and 3 percent more than $100,000, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reports. Average debt for bachelor degree graduates who took out loans ranges from under $10,000 at elite schools like Princeton and Williams College, which have plenty of wealthy students and enormous endowments, to nearly $50,000 at some private colleges with less affluent students and less financial aid" (Martin, Lehren, 2012). Another inpact for the rising cost; funding cuts, also drive college tuition up. College are needing to be able to make up the lost, therefore pass it...

Health Care Reform

...speak of the HealthCare Reform, medical coverage comes to mind. The HealthCare Reform is any policy that seeks to change or make better the way health care is now. Generally, the health care reform is a governmental policy. Many individuals hate the healthcare reform for one basic reason: They believe the American Healthcare System cannot be reformed. The practice of medicine has become so riddled with economic and legal affairs in America, that it seems most everyone has something invested in this decision and it leads people to believe it’s all about money. It is difficult to understand because the practice of medicine is not about financial gain, it is a humanitarian science geared toward the wellness of people, not the growth of bank accounts. Every citizen who contributes to their community should be free to live their life without making a choice between medicine and food, between cancer treatment and their kids’ college without the fear that they are one cold or flu away from unemployment or financial ruin. Many past presidents attempted to pass health care reform to name a few but not limited to be Nixon, Carter, Clinton, and now Obama. The attempt to pass a national health care plan date back to Teddy Roosevelt, some European countries had already implemented national health coverage and pensions by then. In this paper, I will discuss the various aspects of the Health Care Reform such as its purpose and plan. Many people argue that healthcare reform if done...

American Gonverment - Public Policy

...Education for All Students) “If we want America to lead in the 21st century, nothing is more important than giving everyone the best education possible — from the day they start preschool to the day they start their career”, said President Barack Obama. To prepare people for jobs of the future and help restore middle-class security we have to out-educate the world and that starts with a strong and healthy school system. There is no code or bill that has taken place yet to implement higher education, but President Barack Obama and his team have created several initiatives to help all students receive an education beyond high school. Helping middle class families afford college, trying to keep the cost down, strengthening Community Colleges, and Improving Transparency and Accountability are all the ways President Barack Obama, and his team plan to use to accomplish his goal in higher education. After interviewing a principal of a local elementary school she stated that, “higher education after high school should be a #1 priority in high school students.” She also felt that the students should be encouraged by their teachers, counselors, and school representatives to achieve their maximum education. More programs are needed to build a connection for students in high school and with local colleges/vocational schools that will encourage them to seek higher education. President Obama and his team are working extremely hard to make college more accessible, affordable, and attainable...

Going to College

...Can You Afford To Go To College? It is unfortunate that many students and their parents will pinch pennies and borrow heavily to pay for a good college education. For many families obtaining a college degree is very important to them no matter how much debt they are put in. Applying for federal student loans is becoming the norm to cover the cost of obtaining a college education. Students have to borrow more and more money to cover the cost of higher college tuition rates. Currently, the interest rate for a Federal Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized student loans is at 3.4 percent, however, as of July 1, 2013, the interest rates on Federal Stafford student loans will significantly increase from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent making it even more expensive for students to pay for college this fall. President Obama is working with Congress to keep the student loan interest rates down to 3.4 percent to keep it affordable for students (Lucas, 2012). So what is the problem? If Congress doubles the federal student loans interest rates, students will not be able to afford to pay for college. And college is sometimes not the only thing that students have to deal with. Student loans can put students with long-term burdens and stresses that in the future may affect their choice in jobs. Many students have to take care of other monthly bills like electricity, water, phone, rent, and possibly a mortgage. Nearly 10% of federal student loan borrowers failed to make a payment on their...

The pull to become a masterpiece was both exhilarating and unnerving. I knew it was time to continue furthering my education, but the fact that I had a full time job and a busy schedule gave me an excuse to keep putting it off. Year after year, I churned out more and more excuses; the truth was, the factors to consider when choosing an online university were many and overwhelming, and I was afraid to start. I finally launched into research mode and began searching in earnest for “the perfect fit.” After much courting and wooing by several universities offering online programs, three major factors influenced my decision to become a Western Governors University (WGU) student. These are an excellent online support system, a unique competence based approach to learning, and affordability. I urge you to carefully consider these factors; you too will be convinced that WGU is the choice to make. WGU offers an excellent and unique support system to students.
