It is always important to communicate effectively. We need to know how to communicate effectively so we can get our point across and understand what others are trying to say to us. Being that we are part of an online classroom community there are no non-verbal cues to help us to see what is meant by what someone is saying. We can’t see that they are being sarcastic for example. It’s hard to tell tone in the typed word. So, we need to know how to communicate effectively so that we understand what others are trying to tell us and also so that others understand us.

Through effective communication we can show what we know or have learned from the readings. Although we are all reading the same material, we all may come away with a little different understanding of what we have read. We are all coming from different backgrounds so we all see things a little differently. This is where the discussion forums come in. Through effective communication we can help our fellow graduate students and be helped by them to get a better understanding of what we should come away with from the reading materials

Oral and written communication are a direct reflection of your intellectual ability and academic proficiency. Formal and informal means of communication require structure and organization.

Establishing and developing effective communication is important in order to be heard and change your environment according to your own thoughts. No one will guess what you want or what you think if you don’t tell them, and nothing is going to change if you do not propose a change. The purpose of this essay is to discuss four important skills that will help you communicate effectively. Such skills are not to be afraid of speaking, always defend what you want to say, express exactly what you mean to say, and listen while you are not speaking.

Importance Of Communication Skills Course

...The growth of an organi-sation depends on how effective the communication is. Communication is a means to convey one’s messages to the other person in such a way that the message suffers the least distortion. Effective communication can be developed or improved through constant practice. Since, communication is one of the most important aspects of the corporate today, it is imperative that the students who are to join the corporate are given a very rigorous training in communi-cation in the colleges. For this purpose, communication skills courses have been made an in-tegral part of the curriculum of professional institutions. It is unanimously agreed that effec-tive communication skills courses play an important role in preparing the students for the workforce in the corporate. In fact the whole placement processes in these institutions rely upon effective communication skills. Students with reasonably good communication skills have relatively better chances of getting hired than those who are poor at communication. It has been observed that even students with valid professional degrees are not able to get jobs in the corporate and the major reason for this is poor communication skills. Therefore, it can be inferred...

After defining communication and showing how it comes into existence, this chapter distinguishes different types of communication from each other. Communication derives from the Latin root word communis. In English, this root word means common, general, universal, or public. When a person believes, feels, values, or acts as one with another person, communis exists. Communication can be studied in two basic ways. The expositional approach studies attitudes, values, beliefs, feelings, or behaviors that unify people as a whole or particular groups of people. The rhetorical approach studies the steps people take in their quests to establish shared attitudes, values, beliefs, feelings, or behaviors...

Communication

...Communication is the spine of all human interactions and it’s our key to mutual understanding. The better we communicate the better we understand each other. As teachers we can by focusing on our intercultural competence try to optimize this process, but first we have to truly understand what “communication” really is. The word “communication” comes from Latin “communis” which means “to share.” It’s the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts, messages and information which this can be done through speech, visual expressions, writing or behaviour. All communication requires is a sender, a message and a recipient. The parties share an area of communicative commonality and this process is completed when the receiver has understood the message being sent. Our world as we know it is constantly changing. With the proliferation of the Internet it’s now easy to be heard as an individual. We are able to communicate with people in places which only a few years ago were difficult to reach. The Internet offers many ways for us to communicate and its access and use have changed the way we perceive society and personal relations. The world seems to be smaller and we are more often in contact with people from other cultures. It’s therefore important constantly to develop our cultural awareness in order to be more skilled and sophisticated in our communication. Culture has its roots in traditions which are taught and inherited over time. It binds us together...

How Did Lenin Contribute To The Development Of Communism

...Communism is a system of government people have looked to throughout history in hopes of finding peace. Karl Marx formed the idea of socialism which contained important fundamentals that would later evolve into communism. Vladimir Ilich Lenin took Karl Marx's idea and developed it into a form of communism, becoming a national leader and putting his ideas into action (Dagger 1). Lenin's ideas, based off Marx's predictions where that in order to obtain world peace nobody should own anything, and everything should be shared so everybody has access to what they need, and nobody has too much (Dagger 1). Lenin strived to achieve a communist society, but human nature is greedy and while his idea made sense they did not work out as planned. People...

Berlin Wall W

...To what extent was the fall of the Berlin Wall a result rather than a cause of the end of the Cold war? The dismantling of the Berlin Wall in Nov 1989 was one of the most symbolic acts of the Cold War. It was a symbol of the changes that had swept through Europe in 1989 and of the end of the divisions that had marked the essential character of the CW: the ideological split between capitalism and communism. In 1989, the DDR was 4o years old and the East German leadership was prepared to celerbraite its anniversary. At what should have been an event to consolidate the country, the tide was turning against the regime. Gorbachevs reforms had important consequences for the existence of E germany as a separate country. The DDR was a product of Cold War tensions, which had prevented the unification of Germany after WW2. Without these tensions there seemed little reason for Germany to remain divided. Honecker recognized that the DDR could still have a reason to exist if it remained socialist and therefore different from W Germany. Honecker was not in favour of any reform, but the E german population could not be isolated from events in the rest of euope. Large numbers of East Germans had fled from the counrty via Hungary during the summer of 1989, but even more serious for the government were those who were staying put. Gorbys reforms of communism in the Usr had encouraged many E Germanys to push for change. Political groups were formed with huge crowds of demonstrators shouting...

My Name Is Jeff

...My name is jeff Shops looted, cars and buildings burnt out, young adults in hoods on the rampage. London has woken up to street violence, and the usual narratives have emerged – pun- ish those responsible for the violence because they are “opportunist criminals” and “dis- gusting thieves”. The slightly more intellectually curious might blame the trouble on poor 5 police relations or lack of policing.
My own view is that the police in this country do an impressive job and unjustly carry the consequences of a much wider social dysfunction. Before you take a breath of sarcasm thinking “here she goes, excusing the criminals with some sob story”, I want to begin by stating two things. First, violence and looting can never be justified. Second, for those of 10 us working at street level, we’re not surprised by these events.
Twitter and Facebook have kept the perverse momentum going, transmitting invita- tions such as: “Bare shops are gonna get smashed up. So come, get some (free stuff!!!!) F... the feds1 we will send them back with OUR riot! [...] So if you see a brother... SALUTE! If you see a fed... SHOOT!” 15 If this is a war, the enemy, on the face of it, are the “lawless”, the defenders are the law- abiding. An absence of morality can easily be found in the rioters and looters. How, we ask, could they attack their own community with such disregard? But the young people would reply “easily”, because they feel they don’t actually belong to the community. Com- munity, they...

Bandwagon Jumper

...Bandwagon Jumper Aldo Pillitteri PHI221_3_20140728M_OL_Introduction to Logic Saturday, August 16th 2014  Daniel Marcelle Bandwagon Jumper The bandwagon fallacy stands out to me and makes the most sense. I’ve always been a firm believer in understanding and comprehending the world around through your eyes and ears. In the video, comedian Jason Sudeikis illustrates that if one person is to yell out during a presidential speech it is misconduct but if everyone yells out at the same time then it is preserved in a different way. He also brings up a valid point during the skit. He says, “It’s like being in grade school again, if one person does it then they get in trouble but if everyone does it no one gets in trouble. This is a great example of what the bandwagon foundation is built on. There have been many sayings in life that can be chalked up to the bandwagon fallacy, such the countless headers of magazines or commercials that read or say, “7 in 10 doctors recommend…..” Another famous one that never shies away from the history books is, “the entire world used to believe the earth was flat,” not exactly backed by hard facts but still we see it as if it were. No matter what the capacity, just because a celebrity, or doctor or a great commercial endorses something, by no means does that make it any more or any less of difference. It basically boils down to how people perceive it, either way they are still part of the bandwagon fallacy. There are ways to avoid falling into...

Bioterrorism

...BIOTERRORISM Name: 1. Introduction Historically, infectious disease outbreaks brought about by microbial species against human beings have caused far more mortality rates than war itself. Numerous cases of disease outbreaks in the past have been a major concern to health authorities, although such concerns have been partially addressed in the recent past. Examples of disease outbreaks in the past include: the infamous Bubonic Plague of the 14th century in Europe that led to the death of approximately a quarter of the continent’s population (approximately 25 million people); the influenza pandemic of 1918 to 1919 that led to the death of 21 million people; and the death of 95% of Pre-Columbian Native American people by measles, plague, small pox, influenza, and typhoid (Magner, 2009). Although there has been some response to such epidemics in the recent past, naturally occurring infections still remain the Achilles’ heel of today’s health systems. 2. Terrorism Versus Bioterrorism Despite the dark past in healthcare systems, current issues of the use of biological agents as means of mass destruction is alarming. Most of the countries across the globe are now faced with the daunting task of terrorism control, since this is one area where biological agents find a lot of use. According to Forst, terrorism may be defined as a “premeditated and unlawful use of violence [on] non-combatant populations having symbolic significance….” (Forst, 2009). Forst mentions that...

Demonstrative Communication Paper

...Demonstrative Communication Kelvin Burford BCOM/275 April 27, 2014 Demonstrative Communication Communication is the act of conveying information for the purpose of creating a shared understanding. It’s something that humans do every day. The word “communication” comes from the Latin “communis,” meaning “to share,” and includes verbal, non-verbal and electronic means of human interaction (Communication Studies, 2014). No matter where you are from, your cultural background, your age, or experience, effective communication is a skill you can learn. Most great leaders are well-versed in the art of effective communication. Communication is initiated by the sender, who formats (encodes) the message clearly and correctly, by using proper grammar, punctuation, now sequencing, and syntax. This is a vital step for the sender because if the sender speaks too fast or too slow, has garbled speech, or uses incorrect verbiage, the receiver can have a hard time understanding (decoding) the message. Communication can be broken down into four types of communication: verbal (oral communication), non-verbal communication (body language, facial expressions), written communication, and visualization communication. Verbal communication encompasses using spoken words by means of face-to-face communication or other electronic communication devices such as cell phone, online video chatting, telephone, radio, and television. Effective verbal communication helps us better understand the person...
