Communicable Disease-Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is a communicable disease that is a contagious liver infection. In 1989, hepatitis C virus was discovered. Previously, it was related with blood transfusion and was called non-A and non-B hepatitis because virus was not identified. Hepatitis C disease varies from one person to another. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread through contact with blood of an infected person. Hepatitis C can be “acute” or chronic”.

Identify the environment factor related to this disease.
People that contract the Hepatitis C virus age range are from 18-72 years old. Patient exposed to Hepatitis C virus used injectable drugs, body piercing, shared razors and toothbrushes, occupation exposure such as needle stick, and exposure to major amount of blood such as from working in an emergency room or administering first aid. Hepatitis C can be contracted through sexual intercourse and oral. In many case studies, people that have Hepatitis C tends accelerate the disease by smoking cigarettes marijuana and alcohol. This tend to be a threat in the environment by reducing the rate

Explain the influences of lifestyle, socioeconomic status, and disease management.
The influence of lifestyle, socioeconomic status and disease management with hepatitis c is watching diet and alcohol consumption. Alcohol with people with Hepatitis is very dangerous due to it affecting the liver. And to some people that is a lifestyle change which can also effect the socioeconomic status. There can be negative social implications for people living within the context of a broader community who may be largely uneducated about hepatitis C transmission. In most cultures around the world there is prevailing marginalization of people who inject drugs – the major risk factor for infection. Disclosure of hepatitis C status can result in alienation from family and friends as well as perceived and actual discrimination in health services and workplaces (BMC Public Health, 2013).
Identify gaps and how you may link resources to meet needs that are no locally available.
In a study at Penn Medicine, stated between 2003 and 2013 found less than 10% of people infected with Hepatitis C in the United States (330,00of nearly 3.5 million) achieved viral suppression with antiviral hepatitis treatment (Penn Medicine, 2014). The gaps occurs when people does not know that have the disease, no insurance or not able to afford medicine. In the City of Houston there are programs for Hepatitis C such as City of Houston clinics for free screenings, Guidestar Exchange, and St. Hope. St Hope is a Houston nonprofit community healthcare that was established in 1999. This health was designed to provide quality service to reduce health in Houston and rural areas. St. Hope provides medical transportation, medicine, nutritional counseling, internal medicine and community prevention. This particular organization is not advertised; therefore if it is not researched people will not know that it provides services.

Most pharmaceutical companies offer help to patient who cannot provide the medication needed to treat Hepatitis C. Patients should speak with physicians so they can select or and contact program for assistance.

The Hepatitis C Mentor and Support Group (HCMSG) was formed to address the lack of supportive services for people living with Hepatitis C, including patients Co-infected with other conditions such as HCV/HIV, and Pre/Post Liver transplant. The founder is a Hepatitis C patient and advocate. To meet the organization’s goal, the Hepatitis C Support Group Assistance Program was established to provide resources and services nationwide to hospitals, clinics, other organizations, including substance abuse communities, and individuals who want to establish or run Hepatitis C and Co-infection patient support groups. These services are provided FREE OF CHARGE. (HMSG, 2014)

Describe what public health department is doing to reduce the threat of the disease.
Public health departments is reducing the threat of the disease by raising awareness of all types of viral hepatitis infection to help reduce transmission in the community. Implementation of safety strategies for blood such as voluntary blood donation and blood transfusion. Public health has infection control that helps prevent transmission of viral hepatitis in health care setting and community setting as well. Basically, is providing the resource and tools to prevent the disease from spreading.
Include data findings, evidence-based intervention, and a plan to ensure quality of health.
NHANES data for 1999–2008 were used to determine the most effective birth years to target when testing persons for HCV infection. The NHANES analysis revealed a 3.25% prevalence of anti-HCV among persons born during 1945–1965 (95% CI = 2.80–3.76). The prevalence data were presented to the Work Group early in the development process. The results were reviewed again during a discussion of patient-important outcomes at the consultation. However, for several other important or critical outcomes (i.e., HCV transmission, insurability, reassurance of testing negative, false reassurance of testing negative, and worry or anxiety caused by testing true positive), no studies examining their importance and relevance to a birth cohort recommendation could be identified. With the exception of HCV transmission, these outcomes were re-ranked as not critical to decision-making. Available data are limited regarding the acceptability by patients of HCV testing in the United States. However, this can be addressed during physician-patient discussions about individual preventive care.(CDC,2014). By patient living a healthy lifestyle and taking medicines that are prescribed to them patient can live a quality life.

History of Nursing Matrix

...head of the house, which meant there was no formal training caring for sick members of the household. It was also the responsibility of the female head of the household to grow and gather herbs used for healing. Major Health Issues: Yellow fever, small pox, cholera, typhoid, typhus, TB, and malaria. Poor sanitation systems, and poor control over communicable disease that entered the country through seaports made it difficult to organize and support any public health effort that could curtail the spread of sickness (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2012). Partnerships Used: The colonist relied on British traditions to establish a system of caring for the sick. The Elizabeth Poor Laws “guaranteed medical care for the poor, blind, and lame. Each county or township was responsible to care for their residents” (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2012, p.24). As time evolved and the American Revolution was over, the public began to understand and support the need for government sponsored boards of health and they were established. The sponsored boards collected vital statisitics, sanitation improvements, and control of communicable diseases (Stanhope &Lancaster, 2012). During the colonial period, it seemed as though it started out as a community based nursing setting that focused on delivering care for the individual in the family setting, but as time evolved, it moved toward a public health approach. As the settlers became more organized and understood the significance of better sanitation...

Hepatitis B

...Hepatitis B- Benchmark Hepatitis B is a viral infection that targets the liver and is caused by the hepatitis B virus. It can cause both acute and chronic disease within the body. Hepatitis or Hep B is an infection of the liver that can be deadly. It causes inflammation of the liver and is a major health problem all over the globe. Chronic liver disease and chronic infections put people at higher risk of death from cirrhosis of the liver and or liver cancer. The majority of people with Hep B do not have any symptoms during the actual infection phase. There are those however, that experience jaundice (yellowing of the skin), dark colored urine, increased fatigue, nausea, with or without vomiting, and abdominal pain. Symptoms of hepatitis B may not show up for 6 months after the initial infection. Early onset of symptoms may include: loss of appetite, fatigue, low grade fever, muscle and joint pain. An infected person may have no symptoms, they may feel sick for a day up to weeks, or they may become very ill very quickly. This is called fulminant hepatitis. (Hepatitis B, 2013, pg. 1). Complications may arise in some people causing a chronic liver infection that can become cirrhosis or liver cancer. At least ninety percent of healthy adults that contract the Hepatitis B virus recover and are rid of it within six months. Hep B can be transmitted to others even if the infected person shows no signs of the virus. Hepatitis B is transmitted via blood and body fluids such as: seminal...

...Version 2 General Certificate of Education (A-level) June 2011 Geography GEOG1 (Specification 2030) Unit 1: Physical and Human Geography Post-Standardisation Mark Scheme Mark schemes are prepared by the Principal Examiner and considered, together with the relevant questions, by a panel of subject teachers. This mark scheme includes any amendments made at the standardisation events which all examiners participate in and is the scheme which was used by them in this examination. The standardisation process ensures that the mark scheme covers the candidates’ responses to questions and that every examiner understands and applies it in the same correct way. As preparation for standardisation each examiner analyses a number of candidates’ scripts: alternative answers not already covered by the mark scheme are discussed and legislated for. If, after the standardisation process, examiners encounter unusual answers which have not been raised they are required to refer these to the Principal Examiner. It must be stressed that a mark scheme is a working document, in many cases further developed and expanded on the basis of candidates’ reactions to a particular paper. Assumptions about future mark schemes on the basis of one year’s document should be avoided; whilst the guiding principles of assessment remain constant, details will change, depending on the content of a particular examination paper. Further copies of this Mark Scheme are available from:...
