Communication in business is one of the most important life skills in and around the work force. So what makes a communication successful and unsuccessful? And what techniques and models should be employed to utilize this skill? The essay will first analyze an unsuccessful situation, and discuss what possible techniques the employer can utilize to remedy the problem. Next, the essay will cover a successful communication scenario and how and why it has an impact on the success of the company.

Communication breakdowns happen everyday, but what happens when you don’t communicate all together? The following example is a real life situation of what happens when you fail to communicate.
It involved an office worker who liked to play pranks on people. The manager was aware of his behavior but disregarded it because he was a hard worker. The situations escalated when the office worker thought it would be funny if he stuck out his leg out of his office cubicle to trip a coworker walking by, consequently the coworker tripped and injured his leg. As a result, the injured employee ended up filing a lawsuit against the company and won.
However the situation would have easily been prevented as the manager was aware of the employee’s behavior and had he of implement proper communication about rules, regulations and behavioral conduct he would of ended up saving his company money.

In this event, the consequence of not addressing the office worker’s behavior not only affected the working environment, but also the occupation health and safety of other coworkers. By failing to implement the process model of communication towards the worker, the workplace environment lost its professionalism and inevitably resulting in an occupational health and safety hazard. It becomes evident that the breakdown of communication and management had resulted in the accident.

My section supplies a service to another section in the form of recordable media. My section is responsible for the insertion of the media into devices to be analyzed later. To accomplish this task my section must know when it is needed to be installed, removed, and transported to be analyzed. To find this information we must communicate with the section that does the scheduling. In turn the scheduler must communicate with the section that operates the equipment that my section inserts the media in to. After the installation and use by the operator, my section then retrieves the media and transports it to the analyzers. If there is a broken link in the chain of events, we may fail to insert the media or worse, we may never retrieve the media which may result in a security violation. My daily work activities are based on when the media is required and how long it is required. Once that information is known we can plan everything else around this. If the operator has issues with the equipment, the message also needs to be relayed to my section because we also service the...

This will ensure that our customers get the best information and our company remain viable in the competitive business environment. The Audience-centered approach is significant in business communication because it emphasizes understanding, respecting and meeting the need of your our audience members. It is an inclusion approach that caters to all. This new model also emphasizes the individuality of the stakeholder and thus the uniqueness of the corporate image that he or she holds. Consequently, research into image formation needs to distinguish the variety of the images held by respective stakeholder groups (Cornelissen, 2000).
