Communication Opinion Paper Communication plays an important role in the success of every professional and personal relationship we encounter in our daily lives. There are different types of communication; regular communication, effective communication, health care communication, and many more. However it is up to us to know when and what type of communication to use in order to convey the information properly. In our text, Communicating in the Workplace, according to Cheesebro, O’Connor, Rios (2010), “Communication is sometimes defined as the process of sending and receiving messages.” (Ch. 1). To further more the definition communication is the process in which one is sharing information, thoughts, and feelings between people either by speaking, writing, gestures, signals, or body language. Sometimes getting an idea across to the receiver of the communication can be compromised when communication barriers come into play. Some of these barriers may include different languages, disability, cultural, mental health, or cognitive ability. It is an essential element of basic communication to have the necessary skills to be able to smooth the relations with other people. How does effective communication incorporate the basic elements of communication?
Effective communication is always very important in building positive and trusting relationships with anyone whether it is with a child, young person, or an adult. ...Running head: COMMUNICATION OPINION PAPER Communication Opinion Paper Helen R. Caraballo University of Phoenix Communications Opinion Paper Communication is a basic function of living. Communication happens with words, without words, using symbols, gestures, sounds, and drawings. Sometimes getting the idea across to the receiver of the communication is a difficult task when there are communication barriers such as different languages, cognitive ability, and disability. Communication is an essential tool that needs constant use and refinement to be effective for the user and receiver. In this paper, the basic elements of communication, health care communication, consumer communication, and cultural differences in communication will be the topics of discussion. Effective communication is very important. In a health care setting, it is important to listen to one another and understand what is being expressed. The basic elements of communication are listening, speaking the wants and needs, and making eye contact with the other person. I believe that effective communication incorporates these skills because you need to use the proper communication skills in order to be productive in the conversation. In the health care field I do not see how the communication in basic elements of effective communication differs because all of the same rules apply. In order for your doctor to be able to treat you for an illness or ailment you have to be willing to...

...Communication Opinion Paper HCS/320 Communication Opinion Paper Communication is a huge part of every individual’s life. The delivery and receiving of communication will vary person to person. There are basic elements to communication and basic rules to health care communication that differ from each other. Providing and encouraging a consumer to communicate candidly, while also considering cultural differences should be completed in a delicate way. Communication entails both verbal and non-verbal communication, learning to use both effectively will ensure a positive communication experience. Basic Elements of Communication The transmission of information and understanding from one person to another is the process of communication. The Communicator is the sender of the message. This could be the “speaker, issuer, or writer, who intends to express or send out a message” (Easy Communication, 2006). The receiver of the message is the communicatee, or the person to which the message from the communicator was intended for. The information transmitted from one person to another is the message. The message “is also known as the subject matter of this process, i.e., the content of the letter, speech, order, information, idea or suggestion” (Easy Communication, 2006). The way in which the communicator sends the message is the communication channel. The communication channel acts as the connection between the communicator and the communicatee. The reaction of the...

...| Communication Opinion Paper | Effective Communication | Amanda CummingsHCS/320Sandra AndersonJuly 14, 2013 | | | | Communication is a necessity no matter where you are or what you are doing. This is even more so in the healthcare field. To do so, you must be able to be effective at communication and able to work with many obstacles on a daily bases. In this paper we will cover what effective communication is and what some of the obstacles that are faced in the healthcare field. Basic communication is the ability to send and receive information, decoding the information, and giving feedback. Communication itself is the process of understanding and sharing. (Du Pre, 2005) So in order for it to be effective a person must first be able to send information and wait for the other person to be decode the information and respond to said information. That is only half of it; the sender must then be able to receive the information and process it and then once again give feedback. This is how we communicate. There are other factors that we must also take into consideration when we are communicating like body language and tone of one’s voice. If a doctor or patient has an elevated voice it can set the wrong tone and will only cause problems that can get in the way of a proper diagnosis. If a doctor comes into a room and slightly slams the door out of frustration it can put the patient on edge and will once again be a problem for proper diagnosis. The basic elements...

Communication is very important in everything that you do in everyday life whether it’s for a job or in your day to day life. When having to write in a job setting you need to put into place what you are writing about as well as to how you are writing or talking to. You would not want to write or tell a group of 3rd graders how to their work the same way that you would tell a group of doctors. The five basic elements that you need to know for communication to any anyone is first who sending it (name plus for me it’s nice to know who that person is) then you have the message and with message you really do need to know who it is being sent to the receiver and when writing or tell you have to remember that so that it can be written or talk to were the receiver can understand it. From what I’m understand is that the medium is how you are communicating with people whether it’s written or verbal. The feedback is what the receiver/s are telling you the sender/s about the topic could be more input that may need to go out in more communication or it could be one on one. I feel like when this is followed it does work put well. You need to make sure you tone is good as well and that is where I can have problems with. Auston HCS/320 02/04/2014 Kristin Thrun Effective communication is two or more people relaying messages between each other either through speech, writing, or body language in a way that the receiver will understand the meaning of the message in the way the sender intended. When communicating with others it is important to make certain that you are sending your message in a way that can be understood by the receiver of the message. Breaks in communication can lead to many misunderstandings and confusion on the parts of the sender and the receiver. Interpersonal relationships are important to have. “It is healthy to have friends, have co-workers and be involved with other people and have different needs met in different ways.” (Cheesebro, O’Connor, & Francisco, 2010) Interpersonal skills and relationships are important to have in the health care industry. Knowing your co-workers, patients, and superiors and how they communicate is vital in the health care industry. This will help ensure that communications between you and others are effective and fully understood. Just the same, interpersonal relationships with these people will set boundaries on what is appropriate while communicating in the workplace and what is not. ...Communication Opinion Paper Health Care changes are being made daily on how to communicate with others and technology is helping. Communication is very important in health care. I feel that without any communication then everyone would be lost and there would be a lot more people sick than there already is today. Learning the different types of communication can benefit in having a productive work place and knowing the consumers will come back to a provider who takes the time to understand the consumer. There is more to effective communication than just understanding information. “Effective communication involves thoughts, wants, needs, understanding the feelings, and intentions of the communications in some cases may not be expressed in words(Cheesebro, O' Conner, & Rios, , 2012).” Communication is defined as the process of sending and receiving messages with basic communication a consumer can tell the provider that he or she is sick. That sends a message but does not tell the provider what is wrong with him or her. Effective communication would be more the consumer tells the provider that he or she has a fever, sore throat, chills and body aches. This helps describe the problem more in detail giving the provider a better prospective of what is going on with the consumer. A provider can encourage a consumer to communicate through communication. It is important to listen to a consumers concerns are and go from there. ...Communication Opinion Paper When people ask what makes the world work, there are many answers. In my opinion, what makes the world work is communication. From the moment people are born we start to communicate with our very first scream. The screams that babies let out communicates to the world that they are alive. Our first communication to the world; however, after that communication becomes a little more complicated. This paper will look at what communication is and how effective communication is important in the world. Communication is more than just a baby screaming to let the world know they are here. In fact, most often that baby’s scream is the first communication in the health care world at the hands of a doctor or nurse. First we much understand what communication is. “Effective communication is the shared understanding of the information. It involves the shared understanding of the feelings, thoughts, wants, needs, and intentions of the communicators” (Cheesebro, O’Connor, & Rios, 2010, p. 5). Since we have the definition of communication, how we effectively communicate is a skilled that people must master. People communicate every day when interacting with other people. So let us look at the effective ways to communicate. A person comes up to you and starts to talk to you; you in turn need to listen to what they are saying. This is a form of communication. Effectively communication means you have to process what the person is saying. To process...

...Communication Opinion Paper Linda H HCS/320 July 1, 2013 Sandra Anderson, MA Health communication is an important part of health care. It allows the physician to treat properly the patient. Communication with the doctor gives the patient input into his care. Health communication is determined by circumstances surrounding the people involved. Tonality and style of speech influence understanding in communication. Cultural differences can affect the communication between patient and physician. Successful communication requires sending a message to the recipient through written, spoken, and nonverbal means. It is essential to communicate effectively from the lowest position in the organization to the top of the chain. When a person is communicating with others, the basic idea is to send and receive information with the other person. Feedback should be received as well as sent between both parties. Information is processed and decoded so the conversation is understood by the individuals in the conversation. The tone of the conversation can determine how pleasant the experience will be (Du Pre`, 2005). Personal goals are an element of communication. The physician and patient should have clear goals about what they hope to accomplish or obtain through conversation. These goals can be the need to vent or to be healed. The patient and doctor can reach an understanding through communication. It is necessary for both parties to work together to achieve these goals. Cooperation...

Communication in health care is a way to send clear messages to patients, family, and cultural issues also can affect communication. Communication means send messages to the recipient by talking, writing or gesture. Moreover, to make the process successful, it is essential to maintain the right process with appropriate hierarchy of actions. Perhaps, it is as if the corporate world with hierarchies of feedback going upward to the top position on the lowest rung. So some fundamentals are needed. Perhaps, the central idea of communication is to act as both a receiver and a sender while someone is communicating with another person. Then there is a process of decode and encode the message. ...Communication Opinion Paper In the health care field, effective communication is urgent for all health care professionals, the patients and the facility providing the care. This can be the difference between life and death. If communication is lacking in the health care industry, the medical care will not be adequate and mistakes are made. Mistakes cannot be made when it comes to human beings because their lives are at stake, effective communication is necessary in the health care industry. Effective communication between patients and health care providers is a crucial element to the quality of health care. Health care providers need to be aware of their patients' attitudes, beliefs, biases, and behaviors so that they can provide the best quality of care (Markova & Broome, 2007). The success of communication whether it be personal or professional depends on the ability of communication skill levels. Communication skills are not inherited they are learned and in order to be effective you must learn the five basic elements of effective communication which are sender, medium, receiver, message, and feedback. The sender creates a message and encodes it by using verbal and nonverbal cues that can be understood by the receiver. The output of the encoding is the message, which is received and interpreted by the receiver. The more effective the communication is the more the receiver will understand the message. ...Communication Opinion Paper According to Cheesebro, O'Connor, and Rios (2010) "communication is the process of sending and receiving messages between groups of two or more people." (para.14) As we all know, communication is a part of everyone's daily lives and is practically impossible for it to be avoided. With that in mind, since communication plays such a big role in our success in our professional and personal lives, it is important that everyone knows how to communicate effectively in order for there to be a shared understanding of the information that is being communicated to avoid any consequences or misunderstandings. Learning to become a skilled communicator requires learning the elements necessary for effective communication. The elements of the communication process are; sender/ receiver, encoding, decoding, message, channel, and feedback. However, we all know that individuals communicate differently and convey their messages differently according to their audience or environment. For example, if an instructor is communicating through small talk his or her tone and vocabulary would differ from communicating through informational talk. The same goes for when an individual communicates with someone they are close to, such as their friends or co-worker. Even though the tone and style of communication may be altered to fit the audience, the process of communication has to stay the same to be effective. Learning how to become an effective communicator will make health...

...Communication Opinion Paper Laura Tucker HCS/320 Teresa Shook May 5, 2014 We are always communicating with others about something no matter how hard we try to avoid communication. Communication is almost impossible to avoid completely. The type of communication that may be involved can be body language, spoken language, and eye contact. In order to have good communication means to have all of the basic communication elements which are; the message, how the message is received, and the receiver. Although we have learned that the basic elements of effective communication are a little bit different from the main rules of health care communication because of it being a professional industry there may be more misunderstanding. I think that all care providers should try to encourage a consumer to communicate well. Also, some cultural differences should be considered important because this can influence how effective communication might need to be a little different. From what we have learned from our communication is the process of sending and receiving messages (Cheesebro, O’Connor, Rios, 2010). For example, when people communicate problems to others, a message was sent and was received, but sometimes there may be a language barrier so that the message still is not very clear to them (Cheesebro et al., 2010). Sometimes the message may need some more clarity to make it more understandable for the receiver...

...Joseph Rosario Week 1 Assignment Communication Opinion Paper Effective communication is an essential element of basic communication. Without it, meaning cannot be transferred from one person to another and any misunderstandings could lead to dire consequences. The process of communication is composed of three elements: the source (sender, speaker, transmitter, or instructor), the symbols used in composing and transmitting the message (words or signs), and the receiver (listener, reader, or student). The three elements are dynamically interrelated since each element is dependent on the others for effective communication to take place. The relationship between instructor and student also is dynamic and depends on the two-way flow of symbols between the instructor and student. The instructor depends on feedback from the student to properly tailor the communication to the situation. The instructor also provides feedback to the student to reinforce the desired student responses. Each individual involved in the health care industry is an agent of communication. Whether the communication is verbal or nonverbal, millions of messages are being communicated on a daily basis in the industry. Effective communication requires the ability to understand and to be understood. A large aspect of communication is listening and responding to the needs or desires of the person communicating. A health care professional's performance is directly related to his or her ability to effectively communicate...
