...Communication Opinion Monique Taylor HCS/320 June 12, 2013 Lisa Sanders Communication Opinion What exactly is effective communication? Effective communication is when someone sends a message and it is correctly received by the other party. There are five basic elements in communication: the person sending the message, the person receiving the message, the message itself, the channeling of the message, and feedback from the message. Effective communication is crucial to the success of personal relationships as well as professionally. The person delivering the message must do so clearly so it is understood by the person listening. The listener should listen actively because the only way effective communication can take place is when the person listening recognizes without a doubt the message being conveyed. Some common ways of communicating include sharing information by telephone, delivering a speech, messaging, letters, e-mail and sharing information face to face. When a person can listen, store, and recall the information that they listened to, it is only then that you know you have communicated effectively. There can be times when there are barriers that prevent effective communication. Things like sending mixed messages, distractions, or inappropriate body language are just a few. ...Communication Opinion Paper HCS/320 September 15, 2014 Patricia Bird Communication Opinion Paper Communication is always evolving. It is important to know how to communicate with others so that you can be heard and understood. There are five basic components of communication skills that everyone learns. According to the Management Study Guide (2013) website, the 5 component communication model involves a sender and receiver, a medium, context, message, and feedback. There are some factors that can complicate the message being communicated between the sender and receiver. Complications such as, differences in cultural beliefs, values and personalities can influence the way the sender and receiver perceive the information. Even the nature of the relationship can cause a complication between the sender and receiver. Medium refers to the route of communication. Are you communicating in person through a face-to-face conversation, through text message, through a phone call, or through an e-mail? It may not seem like a big deal, but it is important to choose the right medium. For example, if you have an important message you are trying to convey, a text message would not be the best route because the person on the receiving end may not realize it is important and not feel the need to provide a timely response. A phone call or face-to-face approach would be more suitable in this case. You must also consider the context of the information being communicated. There are non-verbal cues...

...Communication Opinion Eric Talen HCS/320: Health Care Communication Strategies Instructor Dr. Monique J. Williams, MSPA February 8, 2015 Communication incorporates the basic elements as so.  There are six elements to this process.  Sender/Receiver, Encoding, Decoding, Message, Channel, and Feedback.  In which, I will explain these one at a time.  The first element, Sender/Receiver, you obvious have to as both otherwise the conversation is one sided.  The sender must be able to convey the message with a clear and concise language that the receiver can understand and process.  The receiver must keep an open mind and lower any filters he/she has in there head in order to understand the true meaning of the message which also means that they must put aside any thoughts or personal beliefs for a moment, be silent, listen, and take take the time to process and understand the message that was given. The second element we'll briefly talk about is Encoding.  Basically, the sender creates a communication message.  The sender will start to have an idea which is put together into symbols that the receiver will understand.  So for short, we're turning thought into symbols.  Which brings me to the next element which is Decoding.  So if senders create the message, the receiver is the destination for that message and will put the meaning of the symbols together to understand the message. Now we talk about the Message element.  What is a message?  Simply put, it is a thought, idea, feeling...

Communication Opinions

...Effective communication is an essential skill that can be used and practiced daily. Communicating ineffectively can lead to individuals leaving the conversation confused or even misunderstanding what was even said to them. There are five basic elements of the communication process: sender/receiver, message, channel, and the feedback (Cheesebro, O'Conner, & Rios, "Chapter 1, Communication Concepts," 2010). We will examine why each of these elements are important to effective communication, how they are different from the basic rules of healthcare communication, how a provider can encourage a reluctant patient to communicate, and how cultural differences can influence communication. The first element of communication, sender/receiver, is important because as the sender you need to know your audience before you speak to them (Cheesebro, O'Conner, & Rios, "Chapter 1, Communication Concepts," 2010). Once you know who your audience is you are able to tailor whatever it is you are trying to say to a way they will understand. An example of this is that one would speak differently to other medical colleges than they would to their patients who might not know medical terminology that well. The next element is the message. The message an individual sends can come verbally, physically or both, so the sender needs to make sure they are sending out the right message they intended. For example, someone can say exactly what he or she might want to convey, but his or her body language might...

What are the five basic elements of communication? Quite simply, the sender, receiver, message, channel and feedback play a significant role in how providers and patients interact in order to accomplish a mutual level of understanding. (Cheesebro, O'Connor, & Rios, 2010) Communication is about sending and receiving messages but listening is the key to bringing clarity to the topic of a conversation. Being descriptive and inquisitive while exchanging information helps grasp the feelings, wants, thoughts and needs of the people communicating.
