The agency I volunteered for was Vineyard clothing and food bank. The purpose of my agency was to help families with low income who are in need. The agency offered food and clothing to each family that qualified to come to the agency. If the family did qualify for services at the agency they were able to come twice a month to receive food and clothing.

The maximum number of people served while I was volunteering at the agency was 32 families. On an average there would probably be about 23 families coming on the days I attended. The lowest number of families came while I was volunteering was 15. However, whether there was 32 families or 15 the agency always did there best to help everyone. The culture of the agency was nice and friendly. …show more content…
Although, while volunteering I did notice some type of gender bias. I noticed that all of the women worked at the front desk, which consisted of interviewing the families. While all the men worked in the back doing the labor, which consisted of packing the carts with food to take to the family. It wasn't a big deal to me but I think the should have been more flexible and switched it up some days. Mainly so that everyone can know how to work every position within the agency.

I think the Vineyard food and clothing agency has been successful within the community and providing services to families. I state they are successful because I saw how many families they were able to provide food and clothing to. They have families a large portion of food that could last them weeks. They also offered special hygiene items such as toothbrush, shampoo, razors, etc. A family could come to the agency and get all the basic necessities they need to survive.
I did not experience any ethical or value dilemmas while working at my agency. Like I stated above my agency was connected through a church so majority of the people who I volunteered with were kind hearted people who wanted to be there and

Observe the Community on Language Diversity

...Community Observation Community Observation Paper Mike Richardson Liberty University Summer 2014 SOCI 200-D01 LUO Professor Cole Community Observation Paper My Community Observation Paper dealt with observing the homeless issue in my community and the local Mission that is the main source of support for individuals without a home. This experience is something that I’ve witnessed from my job for the past several years, but this prospective was different because of the many different types of people I witnessed struggling with this issue. WHAT WAS OBSERVED: I observed many different individuals struggling with a variety of problems either in the form of alcoholism, drug addiction, but the main issue that seems to be the problem is mental illness. Poverty is just a symptom that results from not being able to function in society. Yes, there were families; however, this seemed to be the minority. It’s very concerning to see the children that reside in the mission and makes you wonder how do you have any advantage moving forward in life if this is your foundation. The shelter or Mission is a large facility that houses several hundred each night including women and children. There are strict rules in place to provide some sense of normality to the individuals who stay there nightly, plus to provide a degree of safety. Some who cause issues are temporary suspended from residing in the shelter and some are permanently banned due to not following the rules...

Ethnographic Observation

...Ethnographic Observation TSL 4520  Grading Rubric Background  (Milde, R., 2001) Common wisdom tells us that there are, in general, two kinds of writing: creative and expository. Creative writing tells about feelings, opinions, points of view, things that originate inside the writer. Expository essays tell about facts, things outside of the writer. Essays on literature examine a literary text, a thing outside the writer. Lab reports describe experiments with chemicals and other stuff that really exists and can be measured. Research is factual; fiction, poetry, and the personal story are emotional. Wrong. Writing is not that simple. The farther you go in your academic or professional career, the less you are able to simply report what you see. The more you know about your chosen field, the more you realize that the researcher argues for his/her point of view even as he/she reports the facts. When we ask how to provide medical care, how to enforce the law, how to work in the legal profession, how to do science, how to educate children – when we ask how any profession should be done – there is always more than one possible answer. We have to decide which answers work best, and the research almost always provides some evidence for both (or many) sides. Facts mean nothing without interpretation – we have to decide what the facts mean, what their consequences are.  So we need to get used to using facts, not just reporting them. We need to write expository essays that include...

...1 If a person is writing an academic discussion paper, quoting the book or author he is analyzing means he is using a primary source. On the other hand, if the writer is quoting or paraphrasing an opinion about the book or author from the source means he is using a secondary source. Depending on the type of essay, both primary and secondary sources are acceptable options of any writing. Applying the right type of sources is an important part of an essay to make your arguments more credible, understandable, and clear to the readers. Although primary sources are the first choices to make any paper more credible as well as stronger, using secondary sources in your paper would support the point which is made by the primary source. Community Health Nursing

...RN Community Health Nursing Course Project Milestone #2 Small Town USA INTRODUCTION A small town that doesn't have that big city element can be referred to as suburbia, or is predominantly white, with low crime rates. Small Town USA is more predominant than realized. Although the town of Mayberry was a fictional small town that was featured in "The Andy Griffith Show" where almost all the residents are white with little or no minorities it sets a particularly accurate setting and description to the village of Roscoe, Illinois. As with the show, there are very few black residents in the village and those who reside in the village openly acknowledge this. This brief paper will allow a community concern to the use of alcohol in the Village of Roscoe, IL versus the abuse by young adults just over the border in Wisconsin; just a mere 10 minute drive to the North. Because crime is at a minimum in this village, protecting their young is what the elders do. In addition, disease and its prevalence in Illinois is to be addressed as it is a concern that residents in the village recognize and desire to prevent. COMMUNITY At hand is the discussion of a small town that most in the Midwest would desire to live in, the small village of Roscoe IL that is housed in Winnebago County Illinois. The village is mostly set in rural Illinois, however there is the small part of town that even feels like a protected big town. Winnebago County is located...

Method Research Paper

...Health and Wellness in the Workplace and the effect on Productivity Employee health and wellness is an ever-increasing topic of discussion amongst organizational leadership. A corporate wellness program is program within an organization that actively promotes a healthy lifestyle through education and the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle possibly through incentives. “The benefits of workplace wellness programs have been widely touted: they are known to improve productivity and can cut absenteeism by reducing the number of personal and sick days used” (Atkins, 2009, para. 1). The author of this paper will explore why health and wellness and workplace productivity would be a desirable topic to research and why it is a sociological phenomenon, the methods and designs used to research the topic, and finally present the design plan for conducting the research. Health and wellness in the workplace would be desirable for any organization that is concerned about the well-being of the workforce and the output of the individuals. In a recent study published April 2009 issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the study found that: - Due to unhealthy employees who are absent or continue to work even while ill (so called "presenteeism"), organizations incur $2.30 in productivity losses for each dollar spent on health care and pharmacy costs. - When considering lost productivity along with medical and pharmaceutical costs, the most...

As a whole there is need to developed professionalism to represent the core, the face that our nation has to see. When the area in the military is part of the criminal justice system other attributes are observed as well. Leadership, culture, law, and influential stakeholders are part of the criminal justice environment at the work place. When we talk about leadership in the work place legally by the book there is a chain of levels which is normally divided in three levels. There are the ones that are in the upper management which constitute of commissioned officer and non commissioned officers. ...Worship Observation Paper Assignment Sheet THRS 2105 Spring During the semester, you must attend/observe one service of Jewish worship and present your observations in a five page paper. (If you regularly attend a Jewish worship service, you should visit a different denomination.) A list of synagogues of various denominations will be posted on line. You are welcome to visit a synagogue outside the list as long as you check in with me first. There are three components to the assignment. 1) Preparation Once you have decided what synagogue you will visit, you are expected to do a minimal amount of basic research on the historical background of the denomination, the worship style, its institutional organization and its place in the American religious scene. Your finished paper should include a brief (one and a half to two pages) introduction to the tradition. Keep in mind that you must cite in a footnote or endnote all sources which you quote or paraphrase, as well as works to which you refer or from which you have culled information.
