20 June, 2014 Community Profile The city that I have chosen to complete a community profile on is my hometown Phoenix, Arizona. I was born and raised in phoenix Arizona and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The weather is great, the people are friendly, and this is one of the largest growing metropolitan cities today’s society. This city is filled with multiple types of nationalities, ethnic groups, cultures, and religions.
History
Phoenix was official recognized on May 4, 1868. A man by Jack Swilling was the original founder. A bit over a month later, a Post office was established in Phoenix on June 15, 1868. In 1880 Phoenix had a population of 2,453, a school enrollment of 379 students. On November 26 of that same year, Maricopa County had its first legal hanging. Within the next 10 years, great strides were made toward maturity of a modern city. In 1886, one of the first electric plants in the west was installed in Phoenix. By 1950, 105,000 people lived within the city limits of Phoenix and thousands more lived immediately adjacent to and depended upon Phoenix for their livelihoods. The city had 148 miles of paved streets and 163 miles of unpaved streets, a total of 311miles of streets within the city limits. Currently, more than $1 billion in public and private projects are under construction or planned in the city. The City Council guides this unprecedented growth with an approach designed to preserve and enhance the lifestyle that originally attracted so many people to Phoenix.
Type of Employment Typically, the type of work that will always be ongoing is construction. The city is always looking to improve and modernize so remodeling old buildings and adding to buildings seems to be the direction Phoenix is headed. The Phoenix Police department annually holds training programs and the Phoenix Fire departments is always looking to recruit young heroes. School teachers and entrepreneurs are also types of employment in Phoenix, Arizona. There is also an abundance of volunteer work around this beautiful city such as Parks and recreation, Rio Salado River, and simply volunteering to pick up trash along local streets and highways. This actually ties into the subject of social responsibility.
Community Interaction As mentioned before, Phoenix has gorgeous weather. Due to that, there are a lot of activities to do weather indoor or outdoor. When you’re ready for the outdoors, you can mountain bike along world-class trails, find solitude hiking in the expansive South Mountain Park and Preserve, picnic in one of more than 100 parks, cool off in a city swimming pool or play a round of golf at one of several championship courses. Indoors, Phoenix enjoys a vibrant arts and culture scene, and it offers many opportunities for artists. Citizens enjoy the city’s major performance venues, arts classes, and information on Phoenix’s nationally recognized public art program. The community also offer resources for artists, organizations and schools looking to be more involved in the city’s diverse arts community.
Community Profile
Phoenix has responsibilities to its citizens as well. To provide a safe, secure environment for its members, to ensure the community does not disadvantage other communities or their members, also to ensure the agenda, constitution and institutions of the community, protect and support its members, as well as other communities and their members. As an adult, being an informed citizen about our government and community is an important responsibility. Voting in elections is just one responsibility of all good citizens. Volunteering to help in the community, joining worthwhile community events or organizations, and helping people who need assistance are other responsibilities. It is important for citizens to be active in their community and help others whenever possible. There are many ways for teenagers to be good citizens too. Young people can volunteer to help clean up their community by adopting a street or highway, or cleaning up a vacant lot. They might visit hospitals or nursing homes and share their talents or simply chat with those who need a friend. By volunteering and helping others, people will build a better community. Being involved makes volunteers feel good about themselves also.

...Community Profile Presentation ETH/ 316 May 21, 2012 Introduction: Diversity in Communities Diversity is what makes everybody different and helps people to learn from one another. Imagine if everybody was the same and every community did things in the exact same way – life around the world would be boring. Diversity in communities brings new ideas and creativity to help enhance unity among the people who make up the community. According to Boylan (2009), diversity makes a community stronger and happier in the essences that change is good and resources that are more possible are created overtime. All communities have their own way of conducting business, they have their own rules and regulations and most importantly, the people of the community help to keep their community safe, clean and united. However, when conducting a group study it was discovered that most communities have the same wants, needs and values. To illustrate the diversity between communities we will compare five different community profiles prepared by the members of Team C and use these profiles to discuss the similarities, differences and social responsibility of each community. The purpose of this paper is to reveal that communities are very different yet very much the same. Similarities among the Communities Each member in Team C submitted information about their particular community, which included the population size, information about employment among residents and intricate details...

They can determine how stable communities are, potential growth, and accomplishments that communities have succeeded in. Each community has its own profile, and within each community all people have social roles in which they play. ...WK 2: Community Profile In a community there lives a diverse group of people. These people are what make a community a home or a neighborhood. This neighborhood needs to be respected and protected in order for people to thrive and carry-on with their everyday lives. My community is made up families raising their children and just going with everyday life. We take pride in living for our children. Sports and education is big in the community, during school and during the summer months as well. When the adults are not working they take their leisure time going to basketball games on Friday nights during the fall or baseball games during the summer. Also during the summer months my community has a farmers market. The farmers market supports local farmers and also brings other small businesses out. The farmers market always brings out the community and brings people together. It is also a great way to contribute to small businesses and give back. Some other wonderful, fun things we have during the summer months that brings the community together are car shows, a day in the park and the jubilee. A reason we can have these things is because of the workforce in the community. The workforce ranges from industry to clerical to fast food to medical. We are very diverse in what needs to be done. The community used to be mostly industrial but a lot of factories were shutdown due to the economy. The community still has a couple of bigger industrial factories that are in production but...

Within this community, there are two school districts and a fire department. Antelope consists of mostly white-collar workers. There are also blue-collar workers. Many of the families are double-income families, although there are still quite a few single-income families. Antelope does not house many big businesses so many of the residents commute to Sacramento. The average annual household income is $75,000 to $120,000. Antelope is a sports community and a majority of children participate in the local sports. Many families interact during these team sports. There are also community events that are held by the local churches or schools that are very popular among the people of the neighborhoods. A local church holds events for Halloween and Easter, that generally turns out very successful in bringing the community together. Tofino Community Profile

...Assignment #2: Tofino Community Paper The community that will be addressed throughout this report is Tofino, British Columbia. The general interest in this community arose from various trips there. During the most recent visit I began simply admiring the Tofino resident’s way of life. Simply put, Tofino is a one of a kind community from my point of view. INTRODUCTION Tofino is a relatively small community compared to other settlements on Vancouver Island. The population in 2006 was 1,655, according to Statistics Canada. Also Tofino’s population density is 157.1 people/km2. This statistic may seem high relative to the community’s total permanent population, but Tofino’s land area is only 10.54km2. Progressing, Tofino’s major economic bases have changed significantly over time. During the 60s and 70s Tofino’s main industries were commercial fishing and industrial logging, but with various policy changes Tofino’s main industry has changed. Currently their main economic activity is tourism. More specifically, ecotourism, this includes such activities as wildlife watching, beach exploration, ocean fishing, hiking and walking, floatplane tours, surfing, and sea kayaking (Niwand, 2008). Furthermore, Tofino’s settlement structure resembles that of a common developing region shore-based community. There are many small docks lining the settlement’s limits. Also because Tofino is spatially small, the central business district encompasses the various roads directly attached to the...

...Ethics and Social Responsibility ETH/316 University of Phoenix Ethics Essay As far back as one can remember, philosophers have debated the human condition of what is good, what is evil, what makes the individual moral, and how ethics balance with virtue as a means for the actualization of the individual. Virtue, for many, becomes the theory for the way individuals should follow morality to, eventually become the best person we can be. Part of being an understanding human, for instance, is distinguishing the difference from right and wrong. Making that distinct individualized decision; we have contemplated our own humanity to make something real. Virtue Theory The Virtue Theory is a concept taken up by more than Aristotle that helps individuals define and contrast normative ethics by using deontology, which tends to emphasize cause and effect through rules and duties. The theory, then take admirable human characteristics and try to find the way in which humans should live best. “To experience these emotions (fear, courage, desire, anger, pity and pleasure) at the right times and on the right occasions, and toward the right persons and for the right causes and in the right manner is the mean or the supreme good, which is characteristic of virtue” (Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics, II).
