For my first profession I chose is a New York City Police officer. For this career I will need sixty credits or an associate’s degree. If I wanted to become a sergeant or a captain I would need eighty credits or a bachelor’s degree. This job consists of many dangers. Police officers are constantly being faced with the unknown and the unpredictable. They never truly know the outcome of any situation they enter into. This job will also consist of contact with all kinds of people every day. The starting salary for a New York City Police officer is around forty five thousand dollars a year and increases with time and bonuses. You can also work a lot of overtime which can bump up your salary at the end of the month In order to become a police officer I can have any degree, but if I wanted to advance in this career I can get a degree in social science, criminal justice or criminology. There are many schools in the New York area that have these degrees such as john jay in the city, Nassau community, and also Albany university but john jay is known to be the best college to study criminal justice in the tri state area . The person I am interviewing is my father, my dad said it entails of being in danger every single second on the job especially cause he works in south Jamaica queens, it also consists of helping people every day in all different ways either if it’s trying to find the man who robed someone or even if its just giving an old man a ride home.my father had gotten his education in the air force . he was in the air force for 9 years . a typical day at his job is dealing with criminals and arresting them everyday. He also has to deal with telling parents that their son is in jail or in the hospital . my fathers dislikes about his job is that he sometimes has to respond to terrible accidents, and murders and see young kids die in a gun fight. His likes about the job is he loves helping people with their problems and aslo keeping the city safe by putting criminals in jail. Being a police officer is the job that intrestses me the most because It consists of helping people and keeping people safe day in and day out and I love to help and keep people safe. I will get their someday by graduating from Nassau community college or a four year school studying criminal justice. I will study for the test a lot this week because I am taking it next week and I am very excited about it .

...Compare and Contrast of Race/Ethnicity ENG 125 Introduction to Literature September 3, 2012 Racial background and ethnicities are represented in the short stories “Country Lovers”, and “The Welcome Table.” Both these stories have a main character or protagonist black female. Both of these women deal with some degree of discrimination because of their color. The theme of these stories is the hardships that these women suffer during their life can be suffered by anyone but growing up in a discriminatory situation creates a more dramatic story. The main themes in “Country Lovers” are love and racial politics. Country Lovers was written during a time when Africa was suffering from racial segregation. This story has irony throughout the entire story. Thebedi and Paulus grow up together and they fall in love. They grew up in Africa during the apartheid when their country did not allow interracial relationships. Paulus Eysendyck was the son of the farm owner and Thebedi’s father worked on that farm. They both knew they could not be together publicly. During the apartheid in Africa it was illegal to have an interracial relationship. There are several dramatic effects in this story. The first is when the narrator talks about Paulus going away to school “This usefully coincides with the age of twelve or thirteen; so that by the time early adolescence is reached, the black children are making along with the bodily changes common to all, an easy...

The First Four Colonies, Compair and Contrast

...The Jamestown in Virginia colony encountered many devastating problems when trying to colonize in comparison with the other New World colonies. Problems such as starvation, sickness, lacking sufficient skills to farm or even hunt, and murder from the local Indians nearly extinguished the entire colony. Some of the food that was brought to the colony was sent home with other explorers, leaving those behind without much food. Many of the colonist resorted to cannibalism to satisfy their hunger. John Smith stated in his letter to the Virginia Company, “and we are more than two hundred to live upon this: the one half sick, the other little better,” I feel that he wrote this to express the significance of the diminishing health amongst the colonist. The need for competent workers in carpentry, farming, fishing, masonry, and several other skills prevented the colony from growing and sustaining themselves. Due to the lack of food and the declining health, they were too weak to defend themselves against the Indian attacks. A clear presence of order and leadership was not regained until Sir Thomas Gates enacted Martial Law. The Massachusetts Bay Colony was well led and organized before they even made the trip across the Atlantic to the New World. In comparison to the Jamestown’s Martial Law, John Winthrop organized the Puritans in such a way as to prepare them for how they should interact with one another, work, and most of all practice there faith. Strict religious faith...
