Company Analysis: AES Corporation Sonya Henderson

Abstract
This paper summarizes the organizational culture of AES Corporation as interpreted by the author. AES is both generator and distributor of various energy powers, in 27 countries. The company was established in 1981. Although AES is a fairly new company, according to AES website, they have quickly identified the need to meet the globe’s ever changing energy needs.

Company Analysis: AES Corporation
Ethical approach. After reading AES Code of Conduct, I found that this company has good values and ethical code. AES requires not only their employee’s follow their business conduct; there is also a section that states additional responsibilities for managers to lead by example. They are a global company and it is stated, “AES people are encouraged to ask questions before acting and are expected to comply with our Values and this guide—business results are never more important than conduct consistent with our Values… while remaining true to the letter and spirit of our values.” (2012) AES demonstrates commitment to performance with integrity, while providing continuous learning opportunities for their employees to develop. AES code affirms that confidential information if protected, with consequences for non-compliance of the code as well. AES encourages free expression of concerns without harassment or retaliation. They offer a confidential helpline for any employee who may have a business conduct concern.
Philosophical approach. AES discusses throughout their code that they want to “do the right thing.” AES has covered all of their bases in the ethics ballgame. With all sharing responsibility for integrity, compliance, values at AES should go uncompromised. AES focuses on managerial leadership by example and state in their code, “remaining true to the letter and spirit of our values.” (2012) AES encompasses the epitome of prevention, their philosophical approach being Lock-based.
In conclusion, it is my discovery that AES has demonstrated good attributes of ethical code. There organizational culture is based on good values, and they have a full section within the code about having fun at work, respecting one another. In regards, to change, AES feels that by welcoming diversity, with continuous learning and improvements will assist with the ever-changing global needs for energy.

...excellence choice for Ford Motor Company. The cash option solves the problem of Ford having massive amounts of extra cash. Since Ford has no profitable activities for the extensive amounts of cash, returning the excess cash to shareholders allows them to make profitable investments. Different from a cash dividend, the returned cash will be taxed as capital gain and therefore achieves tax efficiency for the shareholders. When looking at the company’s point of view, they are able to lower the dividend payment because there will be an increase in number of shares. This would result in the dividend amount per share to most likely decrease and the total amount allocated to a dividend payment to stay constant. This will make dividends for the new Ford shares to go down because share price falls. Those who elect the $20 cash payout will maintain ownership of the same amount of shares they previously owned, therefore, the total dividend payment then becomes reduced. As a result of the cash payout, the number of new shares outstanding will reduce, this increases the earnings per share and, because of the increased rarity of shares, the overall demand for Ford's shares will increase. With higher demand in shares, comes a higher share price in the future.
