In the provided article Beowulf and the Teaching of Leadership written by John loughman and John Finley. The two authors state the epic poem Beowulf can give you timely insight and direction into leadership (P. 155). Although the story of Beowulf presents to us a very common leader I would have to disagree that the epic poem doesn’t really present to us how impactful and present his leadership skills. The two authors also compares and contrast the similarities beowulf has to culture movies you see in your everyday life. This would include Narnia, Lord of the rings, etc. ( P. 156) The two others also give a cultural background on how the story of Beowulf was conceived. 159). Although I would say Beowulf is very charismatic I wouldn’t say he’s a leader. Beowulf lacks in leadership skills due to the fact he’s very egotistical and prideful. The authors do not give specific details to back up how he’s a leader. Yes he’s faced adversity and seemingly overcomes it every time but how does that directly showcase his leadership skills to others surrounding him. The authors do give good examples on the potential drawbacks ( P.160) such as with Beowulf being such a well renown warrior and the potential drawbacks of nobody being able to fill in that place when Beowulf steps down.
