On September 12th 2001, Will woke up hoping it was from a bad nightmare, only to look down at his stitched up hands, and realize it wasn’t. The day before, he and his dad had escaped the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. It was bring your kid to work day for his school, and Will's dad worked there and took him to work that day. They never thought that it would be attacked by terrorists. Will and his mom and dad were all watching the news together to see what was going on. His mom started getting very emotional, because she was so happy that they survived when many people hadn't. His father's assistant Suzie, was trying to find all the employee's from his office to figure out who had survived, because his father wanted to make a new office somewhere else. James lied about their age and said that they were 18, when they were actually 15. The Mayor came over and asked why they wanted to volunteer, and James told him that he wanted to look for his father, who was a firefighter, and because of that, he let them in right away. They were helping move some of the big pieces of debris from the crash. Will looked down at his hand after a while, and saw that one of his stitches was bleeding through his glove. He went over to the nurse, and she stitched it back up. James and Will decided to go home after that, and tell their parents the truth about where they had been. On the train back home, James decided to finally accept that his father wasn't coming back. Will called his mom and told her that he was going to explain everything when he got home, because she was getting really worried. When he got home, and told the truth, his mom was angry with him but she understood why he did it.
