The United States has always tried to protect its citizens throughout her history, dating back from the Magna Carta in 1215 to the more current event of Operation Neptune Spear. Although many documents and plans have been beneficial to the well being of Americans, The Patriot Act and NSC-68 have been the most influential in American culture. They fundamentally have shaped the way we think, act and carry out government ideas.
Even though the Patriot Act and NSC-68 involve two separate incidents, they still talk about some of the same issues. In the NSC-68 document, it highlights key differences between the military in the United States and that of the Soviet Union. The premise of NSC- 68 was to find a cost efficient way to run things by changing the way the Soviets could initiate the Kremlin design. It is said within the document, that if Russia and America can become allies and work together, a victory would soon be inevitable. This would be beneficial not only to America, but to other countries as well by providing peace throughout the nations. While the Patriot act focuses on stopping terrorists instead of worrying about an official cost. The government was more concerned with how they could prevent a repeat of 9/11 that they were willing to break the constitution and take away rights to “protect” individuals. Within the Patriot act, Americans were guaranteed safety from terrorist attack by having the government look into the everydays lives and privacy. As the plan would be carried out Americans became weary of this once wanted idea. They began to claim that instead of trying to prevent terrorist attacks, the government is more concerned with looking into the personal information of people. They began to question if the Patriot Act was unconstitutional for the government looking into your life without showing a permit of legal search and seizure
