I had chosen this essay because; it was one that did not have an opinion. This course paper was one of the compare/contrast essay. I have never done an essay like this before this course and it was challenging. This paper really did take critical thinking and communication to the next level for me. However, challenging that it was for me I did the best that I could with the research that was available to me.

FBI & CIA
When people think of the FBI and CIA, they think about secret identities, spies, and security. Even when people watch movies, these two agencies are in them. These two agencies seem to work together in the movies also; they actually work together in real life. The FBI and CIA have been around for a long time but, how much do people know about the agencies that are here to protect us. Not a whole lot since they are not very publicly known. People know about these agencies but never actually know why they exist. Even though the FBI and CIA are similar government agencies, they have differences in territory, history, and job duties for the government.
In the United States, the FBI has territory in all 50 states. The offices are located in either one major city; or depending on the size of the state, they may have multiple locations. (FBI, n.d.)The FBI has more than a dozen small sub-offices in key cities around the globe that provides coverage to more than 200 countries, territories, and islands. The International Operations Division at the FBI headquarters based in Washington, DC manages their legal attaché program. (FBI, n.d.) Moreover, the FBI also has territory worldwide. These offices are legal attaches or legates. The offices are located in the U.S embassies. (FBI, n.d)
The history of the FBI started when President Theodore Roosevelt and Attorney General Charles Bonaparte had created the agency in 1908. (FBI, n.d.) On July 26, 1908, Bonaparte had ordered the agents to report to Chief Examiner Stanley W. Finch. This was the day the FBI was created and celebrated. (FBI, n.d) The reason the FBI was created was that President Roosevelt and Bonaparte were both innovators of progress; and they had shared the conviction that efficiency, expertise, and not politic connection should determine who could best serve the government. (FBI, n.d.) However, today Americans do take for granted that this country does need a federal investigation service. Moreover, in 1908 that was not the case establishment of this kind of agency at the national level was very controversial. (FBI, n.d.)
What the job services the FBI does for the government is they have lead investigators for national security matters for the United States.(Education Portal, 2013) FBI agents may need to go undercover occasionally, also to adapt a new identity and adjust to criminal groups to help discover the nature of the activities. (Education Portal, 2013) Therefore, the common duties of the FBI agent are to preform research, investigate, and filling out reports on their case. (Education Portal, 2013) The FBI does what they do for the protection of the United States. The heart of the FBI operations lies in their investigations. (FBI, n.d.)They protect the United States from terrorists, foreign intelligence threats, and they enforce the criminal laws of the United States. (FBI, n.d.) The Director of the FBI is responsible to give orders to the FBI agents. Moreover, the director of the FBI gets orders and answers to the attorney general. (FBI, n.d.)
The headquarters of the CIA is based in the United States in Virginia. (CIA, 2013) Even though the CIA’s headquarters is in the United States, they are also located in many different parts of the world and in many locations internationally. (CIA, 2013) The CIA has gone global, since so has terrorism and other such threats to the United States as well as other countries.
In the history of the CIA, it was before World War II that the creation of America’s first centralized intelligence organization, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was thought about.(Dujmovic, 2011) However, President Harry Truman created the CIA in 1947. (CIA, 2013) This was when President Truman had realized the need for centralized intelligence organization. He had signed the National Security Act of 1947. (CIA, 2013) This act changed the CIA with coordinating the nation’s intelligence activities. Also correlating, evaluating, and disseminating intelligence affecting the national security. (CIA, 2013)
The job services that the CIA provides for the government, is they are an independent agency that is responsible for providing the nations national security intelligence. (CIA, 2013) The CIA division has four separate divisions, the national Clandestine Service, Directorate of Intelligence, Directorate of science and Technology, and Directorate of Support. (CIA, 2013). The four components help carry out the “intelligence cycle”, the process of the collection, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence information to top U. S. government officials. (CIA, 2013) However, political leaders need to oversee the intelligence policies, as this will produce some pressure from intelligence. (Jervis, 2010) The person who is responsible to give the orders or assignments to the CIA members is the director of central intelligence agency, the director needs to answer to the director if national intelligence. (CIA, 2013) When people think, about the FBI and CIA, it is hard not to think about where they are every moment of the day and wondering what they are finding, or whose life they are saving. Since the agencies are, both secretive and they protect the nation. They are all around and people do not even know about it. That is the secretive part of these agencies, people know they exist but they do not see them. These two agencies do work together on cases where they find the threat on intelligence and they find the cause or people causing the attack. Even though they are similar in some ways, these agencies are also different.

Comparing two items that are similar can be positive, however contrasting these items may not be the best way to write about them. Comparing two items that are very different would not be the best way to write about them. Comparing thru contrast would be a much better essay. ...Tuesday/Thursday 10:30-11:45 Compare and Contrast The two pieces of art I've chosen to compare, contrast, and analyze are Woman at the Height of her Beauty, by Kitagawa Utamaro and Mother and Child, by Mary Cassatt. Both pieces are reflective of different societies of the time period in which they were created, and both pieces have a background and deeper meaning that goes beyond what meets the viewers eye. However, the aesthetic appeal varies greatly between the two pieces, as do the ideas they correspond to. Woman at the Height of her Beauty, which was made out of color woodblock print, depicts an Asian woman. The artist used linear movements and minimal decoration to create the woman's form, and in doing so created a simplified yet elegant depiction. Though she is portrayed simply and plainly, her hair pieces and clothing are more elaborate, which draws the viewer's eye to her clothes and accessories rather than the woman. This technique of using vague individual features allows the artist to portray women as a group, rather than an individual woman. The woman's facial expression and the position of her body, namely her hands, which she appears to be stretching, give the impression that she is preparing to do tedious and important tasks.
