The two characters I made a human development map for was Lafayette rivers and Emmett Till. These two individuals may seem similar but they both come from distinct environments. In the first place, Lafayette grew up in an environment where he was always surrounded by violence and gangs. During his adolescence, he faced more tragedy than most people do in their lifetime. He grew up in a neighborhood where there was no future, living the whole day without getting killed was an accomplishment within itself. In fact, he couldn’t achieve self-actualization even though he had potential to do so if he grew up in a different macrosystem as towards the end of the novel he seemed on track.
