The Glass Menagrie is about a Brother Tom wingfield and his sister Laura Wingfield and there mother Amanda Wingfield. There father abandoned then when they where little. Laura is socially awkward she’s been telling her mother for the past 6 months that she’s going to school but the first day she went and she had to se sent to the nurses office because she was so scared. So she tells her mom she’s go but she really just goes for walks in the park. Tom works at a warehouse he’s the narrator of the play and He wants out of the house. His mother makes him do everything he goes to the movies on his free time and write poetry they call him “sheckspeer” at the warehouse. There Mother Amanda is stuck in the past. She used to be one of those “Perfect” girls in high school got all the gentleman callers and wont let the past go. She always wants Laura to be like her tells Laura to get Ready for the “gentleman” callers and Laura knows there are going to be none there were only those in Her mothers time period when she was in high school.

The theme of the story is kind of dim and deep and depressing. The mother wont let go of the past the brother (Tom) wants out of the house. His mother wants him to find a man for his sister Laura. Laura is socially awkward didn’t have a lot of friends in High school besides this one boy who she fell in love with, Turns out the boy she fell in love with works with her brother Tom at the warehouse. His names Jim O’Connor and he shows up to there house for dinner and talks to Laura and remembers her and he kisses her but tells her she needs to find the right guy he’s not the one and he’s about to get married in the spring.

The Lighting design for this play I want to project words on the screen and some pictures of Blue Roses. Those mean a lot in the story. But the rest is going to be black and white. And when the character starts to come alive they will get color and realize everything around them. I want to make it fun and creative but not very complicated. Its going to be gloomy and not very colorful because of the mood and theme of the play but once the character comes to life they will get color and color will come back on the stage at the end of the play to see the overview and overall outcome of the story.

English Composition

...Expectations of English Composition As I stumble through the door of my first English Composition class in college, I am baffled by my professor’s seemingly enormous expectations for my meager writing skills. My anxious mind anticipates the same question as I stare blankly at the white dry erase board; “Will my past knowledge of high school composition correlate with the academic rigors of college English Composition”. The curriculum of college English is far more demanding and time consuming than the simplicities of high school English. I am presented with great expectations to thrive in the pressures of writings essays and reading other authors’ pieces. My presumptions will lead to positive academic achievements in English composition as I absorb the significant impression of college writing skills. My past high school teachers valued student composition as simplistic and predictable. Writing about weekend ventures and family endeavors became very arduous and tedious as the topic always presented the identical situation, ‘Write an essay about your experiences of a fun family experience or weekend event.’ Therefore, my essays were based upon the same idea as other student’s writings, never exploring into the uncharted, creative world of thought provoking essays. Writing in high school became very dull because teachers expected each student composition to be based on the same topic. Teachers identified each student’s essay as monotonous and repetitive since it was based upon...

Composition and Inverse

...Composition and Inverse MAT 222 Instructor Amy Glidewell 19 January 2015 Composition and Inverse When you think of math there are several types of problems that are ment to help prepare for the different skills that you may have. I am going to solve three different problems that were assigned to me. Within he paper I will define what composition and inverse functions are. As stated in the reading , “the notation uses for composition is f composed with g of x or f of g of x” (Dugopolski, 2012). Something that is noticed is that the letters stay in he same order in each expression for the composition. These problems will be graphed and solved further in the paper. The following information was given so I can solve the following expressions. In step one I was given the following finctions: f(x) = 2x + 5, g(x) = x^2 – 3, and h(x) = 7 – x/ 3. To start I am going to compute (f-h) (4) f(4) = 2*4 + 5 = 13 h(4) = (7-4)/3 = 1 (f-h)(4) = f(4) -h(4) = 13 - 1 = 12 Answer: (f-h)(4) = 12 Evaluate the following: (f o g)(x) and (h o g)(x) (f o g)(x) = f(g(x)) = f(x^2-3) = 2(x^2-3)+5 = 2x^2 - 6 + 5 = 2x^2 - 1 (h o g)(x)=h(g(x)) = h(x^2-3) = (7-(x^2-3))/3 = (10-x^2)/3 Transform the g(x) function so that the graph is moved 6 units to the right and 7 units down. Function will be G(x) = (x-6)^2 - 10 Find the inverse function: f^-1(x) and h^-1(x) For finding f^-1(x), replace x by y and f(x) by x in f(x)=2x+5 x = 2y + 5 2y = x-5 y = (x-5)/2 Thus f^-1(x) = (x-5)/2 For...

Composition and Inverse

...Composition and Inverse Functions provide an opportunity for manipulating expressions using different values. These values can help business owners, data analysts, and even the consumer compare rates and data. Functions also extend independent (x) and dependent (y) variables by graphing in the coordinate plane and creating a visual demonstration of the relationship. The following functions will be used in the required problems. f(x) = 2x+5 g(x) = x2+3 h(x) = (7-x)/3 The first task is to compute (f – h)(4). (f – h)(4) = f(4) – h(4) Because of rules of composition, each function may be calculated separately and then subtracted. f(4) = 2(4) + 5 The ‘x’ was replaced with the 4 from the problem. f(4) = 8 + 5 Order of operations was used to evaluate the function. f(4) = 13 h(4) = (7 - 4)/3 The same process is used for h(4) and f(4). h(4) = 3/3 h(4) = 1 (f – h)(4) = 13 – 1 (f – h)(4) = 12 This is the solution after plugging the values in and subtracting. Next, two pairs of the functions will be composed into each other. One option to find the solution for the function, g(x), is to calculate it and then substitute for the ‘x’ value in the f(x). The option used here is to replace the ‘x’ in the ‘f’ function with the ‘g’ function. This means the rule of ‘f’ will work on ‘g’. This means the rule of ‘f’ will work on the problem: (f°g)(x) = f(g(x)) (f° g)(x) = f(g(x)) (f° g)(x) = f(x2 + 3) ‘f’ is now going to work on the rule...

...“Crossing the Threshold” Unit 3 assignment Eugene (Tazz) Hammond Kaplan University CM 107-84 College Composition 1 My definition of courage is: Having the ability to perform under stressful and extreme situations that requires you to place yourself and safety to the side while assisting or standing up for people in an undesirable situation and there as a necessity and not fame. I also feel that with that said courage is also standing for your moral beliefs even when tested. I look at courage as something that is a must so that when you do cross the threshold you will have the ability to successful in your mission. William Crawford a janitor at West Point Military Academy is such a person, I believe that on the morning of September 13, 1943 Mr. Crawford like anyone else in war was not thinking about courage but was scared for his brother in arms and his own safety. Like most Hero’s Mr. Crawford displayed his courage at the split second he decided to rush the 3 fortified machinegun nests and single handedly saving his entire unit, earning him the Congressional Medal of Honor. When the cadets at West Point discovered that their janitor was the recipient this prestigious award it changed their entire outlook of this very quiet and reserved gentleman. When Col. ...GE217 Composition II Week 2 (B) Identifying logical Fallacies 1. Bandwagon Appeal: “Cash for Clunkers”; The New York Times, September 30, 2012 The argument on this article is about how the people think that something should to be done because the majority does it. The "Cash for Clunkers" program has been a success. By subsidizing the purchases of new, more fuel efficient vehicles for Americans willing to trade in their old gas guzzlers, this initiative makes a short-term investment in our long-term goals of environmental protection and decreasing our dependence on fossil fuels. 2. Ad Hominem: The education for women; Richard Norquist; This is an article from the year 1917 were women are not suppose to know everything like men, he’s argument and appeal that women should have the right to go be equal to men in terms of education. 3. As this premise is far from obvious, and the arguer doesn’t even mention it (much less give it a defense), the argument begs the question. 4. Red Herring: Consequences of using Nuclear Power; Dean Babst and David Krieger; 1997 Here the arguer does nothing to address the issue of the dangers of nuclear power, but instead changes the subject to the danger of electricity. ...compose, within strict boundaries, while playing. There are actually fully written ensemble compositions out there without improvisation. The compositions are still considered modal improvisation because the compositions still follow the conventions of maqam. 2. Islamic Call to Prayer and Jewish biblical cantillation are not considered “music” of “singing,” because of sensuality. Islam believes music is overly sensual. Islamic Call to Prayer does have definite pitch, rhythm, and contour. However, Islam does not think of Call to Prayer as sensual, but “as heightened speed or ‘holy’ speech, delivered in a style requiring both declamation and the spinning out of syllables”(248). Full-fledged singing is often forbidden for Judaism because of sensuality. To get around full-fledged singing, Judaism uses the term cantillation. Cantillation is thought of as a heightened speech that is between speaking and singing. Even if a cantillation has a melody, it is still not referred to as “singing.” 3. There are many factors that make Persian classical music different from Arabic music. One of the differences is the difference between the Arabic maqam and Persian dastgah. While Persian musicians have created “composed” melodic phrases, Arab musicians rely on oral tradition of melodic phrases. The “composed” melodic phrases created by the Persian musicians make short compositions, and are called gusheh....

...All empty space does not consist of stones. 6. Therefore, stones do not exist. To go even further, I can add another step in order to conclude that ordinary objects do not exist. The additional step would be that if ordinary objects exist, then stones must also exist. Therefore, ordinary objects do not exist. First we must see what objects exists and what objects occupy a position in space and time. Objects in the universe include planets, people, atoms, chairs, and the sun. They are all made out of parts and they are all composite objects. In order to explain the idea of composition we can say that the x’s compose a composite object if and only if the x’s, taken together have a function that none of them have separately, the x’s are physically bonded, and the x’s are inseparable. Nihilism supports Unger’s idea that stones do not exist because nihilism supports the idea that composition never occurs and therefore,...

...the cards for Manet. Ironically, his art career is still being appreciated over a century later. Manet's uncle, Edmond Fournier, supported Manet is his early art interests, arranging frequent trips to the Louvre. Eventually, Manet and his parents were on the same page and they supported his calling for art. The artist’s use of color, space and composition: The lemon by Manet is a unique piece of art. Manet utilizes realism to capture the simplistic form of the fruit. However, this painting is nothing less than sophisticated demonstrating Manet’s true command of color and touch with his brush. The painting is encompassed by dull, dark colors with sporadic brightness. Manet uses different forms of yellow to capture the color, shape, and texture of the lemon. The sudden brightness in the painting can be seen as the natural reflection that the lemon and the plate give off. He also utilizes dark browns mixed with green to reflect the depth and texture of the plate. His brush strokes are different throughout the painting. At times the brush strokes are hard and streaky, and at other times very clean. The painting is open composition, with the plate that the lemon is resting on going off the canvas. The lemon is horizontally depicted, with a strong shallow sense of...

Summary Of For Lots Of Lost Windows By Akiko Utsumi

...Noticeable from the distance is the installation called For Lots of Lost Windows by Akiko Utsumi. It is conceptual art combining nature and man-made materials that invites its viewers to look beyond what is present in time and grasp the spiritual connection that the evolving nature presents. The scale of the installation is evidently intended to be large and visible from distance that it is too large compared to the common windows in our houses. The composition is divided from the foreground, the middle ground, and the background. The idea and purpose of the artist is for the viewer to rediscover the beautiful scenery through her “own view” - her window. The window is a standalone structure that stands as a foreground in an open space covered...

Art Appreciation

...In this essay I will attempt to analyze the artwork named “Beguiling Lure “ by Isaac Talley made in 2009. The medium of this artwork is acrylic and oil on canvas. The composition is simple with the main focus being a dangling object and a portrait of a single bird. The multi coloring of the background is bright and soft with dark and light hues. The artist was able to deliver the paint onto the canvas in different directions and angles which gives the appearance of overlapping colors, roughness and a uneven texture. There is a small horizontal space that has been left blank and untouched in the middle of the canvas that provides a dividing line separating the upper portion of the painting from the lower portion. Even though there is no similarities in the main two subjects in the painting the artist brings balance, proportion and unity to his work by using the same background colors and patterns from top to bottom. The eye is automatically drawn towards two specific areas on the canvas and directly to the middle upper portion of the painting where a circular white object is attached to a dark blue string of yarn that hangs from a peg at the top of the canvas. In the bottom right corner a is a painting of a black bird standing with its back to the viewer as it looks towards the hanging object. I think the painting is a form of expression in which the intention is to give the viewer an increased awareness of how we have become a materialistic society. Because of our increased...

...introduced to music when he was five years old when his father taught him the solfeggio and the banduria. Abelardo completed his first composition, a waltz entitled "Ang Unang Buko" dedicated to his grandmother, at the age of eight. By the age of thirteen, he was playing at saloons and cabarets in Manila, and by fifteen, he was teaching at barrio schools in San Ildefonso and San Miguel in Bulacan. In 1916, Abelardo entered the University of the Philippines Coservatory of Music, taking courses under Guy F. Harrison and Robert Scholfield. During his studies, he composed the melody of the university's official anthem, U.P. Naming Mahal. After earning a teacher's certificate in science and composition in 1921, he was appointed head of the composition department at the Conservatory in 1924. Years later, he ran a boarding school for young musicians, among which were Antonino Vuenaventura, Alfredo Lozano, and Lucino Sacramento. Abelardo died in 1934 at the age of 41, leaving behind a collection of roughly 140 compositions. He is known for redefining the kundiman, bringing the form to art-song status. Notable among his works are 'Nasaan Ka Irog," "Magbalik Ka Hirang," and "Himutok."
