Computer Engineering
Throughout the world, engineering is perhaps the most necessary job in any context, whether it be designing buildings, roads, chemicals, or even software or hardware for a computer. In this day and age, this is more evident in the rising computer industry. As society progresses in the 21st century, the need for computer engineers of all kinds can only increase. Coming to realization with the increasing need for those interested in computer engineering, one could see how this would be an ideal field to study. With a diverse range of courses available for computer engineering, from writing software to designing hardware, and the ever increasing use of computers in general, it is easy to see why this career path is one worth pursuit.
To start, there are two main paths of computer engineering, as stated previously, hardware engineering and software engineering. Computer hardware engineers research, design, develop, test, and manage the manufacture and installation of various computer hardware ("Computer Engineering"). According to the above website, hardware includes computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and equipment such as keyboards, routers, and even printers. If one were to go into this field of engineering, they would also learn of the electrical details which go into hardware engineering. "The work of computer hardware engineers is similar to that of electronics engineers in that they design and test circuits and other electronic components" ("Computer Engineering"). This path of computer engineering is one involved in the physical parts of the computer, such as a chip or circuit board, as opposed to software engineering, which involves creating the systems that run computers.
Next, the other computer engineering path is that of a computer software engineer, who...

Software Engineering for Computer Games

...LITERATURE REVIEW ON SOFTWARE ENGINEERING FOR COMPUTER GAMES Name: Course: Date Page 1 Abstract Games have often been very common in the past period of time, but with the discovery of computer games, they have penetrated. In spite of the third vista to computer games which is verifiable, it pertains to investigating what characteristics those who play such games anticipate from the gaming using the computer. Permit us state the meaning of a computer game as a play which is undertaken with an aid of a computer program. This meaning still leaves behind some flexibility because it does not imply that the whole game happens in the computer. For instance, Chess may be played on the computer screen and on a true-globe board, heedless to whether the one who objects to the play is a computer application. Huizinga in his classic work defined play as ``an activity which proceeds within certain limits of time and space, in a visible order, according to rules freely accepted, and outside the sphere of necessity or material utility. The play mood is one of rapture and enthusiasm, and is sacred or festive in accordance with the occasion. A feeling of exaltation and tension accompanies the action, mirth and relaxation follow``. A lexicon likewise states the meaning of game as `‘a universal form of recreation generally including any activity engaged in for diversion or amusement and often establishing a situation that involves a contest or rivalry’`. Besides,......

...De La Salle Lipa College Of Information Technology and Engineering Computer Engineering Department Assignment #1 Submitted By: Submitted To: Mary Anne Palicpic Engr. Josielynn Asi O4B – OperSys Instructor June 30, 2014 OS based on Micro-kernel Structure One approach to modern operating system design is to build the distributed operating system as a set of independent system servers using the primitive, generic services of a microkernel. Compared with traditional operating systems, the micro-kernel approach adds two new aspects to the low-level kernel foundation: distribution and subsystem support. In other words, this technology adds to the traditional monolithic architectures the necessary modularity, key to their evolution, introducing the object oriented approach to operating system design. The micro-kernel provides a virtual machine for processor use, memory allocation and communication between operating system components. This approach has been used in several key projects such as CHORUS (researched at INRIA, France, then developed and commercialized by Chorus Systems), Amoeba (Free University and Center for Mathematics and Computer Science, Amsterdam), MOS (Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Topaz (DEC/SRC), the V-system (Stanford University). The CHORUS product line includes the CHORUS Nucleus, a micro-kernel for core operating system services, and CHORUS/MiX, a binary compatible, multi-server UNIX System V......

They might know about identity theft, viruses, Trojans and worms however what they fail to recognize is how these things are accomplished and if they have actually fallen victim to one of these horrible attacks. But what about attacks with even greater impacts…like someone hacking into the computer system of a car that controls the brakes? Perhaps penetrating the systems that control nuclear power plants? Although it seems unlikely that either of these extremely scary scenarios would ever happen, it is most definitely possible. One researcher for IBM’s Internet Security Systems told the owners of a nuclear power station that he could hack into their system through the Internet. The power station took this as a joke, responding to Scott Lunsford, the IBM researcher, with a laugh in his face saying that it was “impossible”. In response, Scott took up the power plant on their words and proved them wrong. In less than twenty-four hours, Scott’s team had infiltrated the system and......

Role Of Women In Engineering

...Purpose: To inform on why women are less seen in engineering and also to create a solution to how we can motivate women to join the science field Introduction I came from a country far along the Atlantic and the Pacific ocean. I was a child born in the midst of boys who wanted to be involved in everything. As time went on, I began to fall for the love of wanting to build things and experiment with many materials. Upon arriving in the United States, I fell in love with computers. I later made up my mind to be a computer engineer. With such dreams of mine, I got a call on this particular day from a friend in Nigeria. We talked and he later asked me what I wanted to do with my life, joyfully I told him I wanted to be a computer engineer. I felt this sudden silence and shock on the phone, he made a comment to me, a comment that changed who i am today, he said “But you are a woman, Engineering is a man work, how will you do that?”. This later caused me to research more about women in engineering, and to my amusement, women are less found in engineering. Today I will tell you the two reason why this issue is occuring and the steps we can all take to end such issue. Lack of women in the engineering field can be because women were often assigned jobs sorting papers, copying, and typing—tasks they felt did not value or cultivate their skills. Lack of confidence also causes women to feel unwanted in the engineering field....
